im so jealous of all the people who had the chance to start figure skating at a very young age. where i grew up there's no ice rinks anywhere nearby and the weather is so horribly unstable that the lakes never freeze enough :/ luckily we're moving to an area with a sh*t ton of ice rinks tho :D

sigh i feel you, i live in a country where figure skating isn't a very known sport and the only rink in the entire country is very far away and very expensive, but figure skating is the only thing i'd rather do for the rest of my life :c

I know this comment was 3 years ago but how long did it take you to get good at skating? I’m learning because I got inspired by yoi but I’m nervous
@NikkiQuacks

TodoToad Personally, without a trainer, about 2 years. I went to the rink about twice a month just to try and get a grip on things or try out new techniques. If you just want to skate casually, I would recommend once a month or so. If you want to do it seriously, maybe look around for a class and see how you do from there. Your feet will be very sore after the first few times, but keep persisting. It’s all about getting a better balance and going your own pace. I wish you luck whether you want to skate seriously or casually. Just have fun doing it.

I'd love to start figure skating. But one, I'm sixteen yees old, and two, here in Ireland, there is absolutely no tradition of any ice sport at all. There is one 'figure skating' club in the country, and it's three hours away from my county. And I say 'figure skating', because they don't actually do it on ice. It's on in-line skates. I'm not joking, it's pretty sad lmao.

Go for it nothing's stopping you (seriously) many people figure skate at that age and even then are beginners I skate with people who are in there 30's even 40's and there are adult competitions too.

Fucking Tóbí Being sixteen won't stop you! Being older actually might help you. At my rink, the older beginning skaters were actually skipped up one or two levels without testing, because the first day they stepped on the ice they already nailed the moves for their level. As for the 'Figure Skating' club, maybe there is a small rink that you don't know about?

the yoi fandom is becoming like ARMYs like I understand that you all want to become skaters and ship victuri (of course who doesn't) but that doesn't mean you have to comment on every single video that has the word ice in it saying that "only yuri on ice brought me here!!1!!!" or "victuri for lifeu!!!" pls chill

Saher Ahmad I remember when the figure skating community was pretty small, but now, most videos I see are polluted by Yuri on Ice fangirls. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that more people want to figure skate now and I love YOI, but the comments like "vICTURI OMG" are a bit annoying. Side note, I have been noticing that the ARMY's have been acting a bit more respectful meeting each other on non-bts videos.
@RileyKohler
@RileyKohler 7 жыл бұрын
Saher Ahmad YES oh my god!!! I try not to complain, but as someone who's been in the figure skating fandom for years, yoi fans' behavior is really pissing me off?? Don't get me wrong, I loved the anime, but seeing comments full of it on actual skating videos? It's just disrespectful to a beautiful traditional sport. And now they've done it to figure skating KZbinrs, who are going to look at the comments and think that they didn't help any actual skaters, because they're only seeing these anime fans with no/little interest in the actual sport! Honestly, this is worse than the ARMYs.

Lol why are a lot of you saying it's too late to start skating? It's never too late to start any physically demanding activities like this unless you have fragile bones. I guess it's understandable to think it's too late if you had serious injuries that needed to be treated through surgery but I haven't seen anyone complain about that yet.

Caterina Hunts I've suffered from ME for a year so my muscles are really stiff and weak, still suffering from it and I really want to learn to scare but I can't and it's so frustrating, I'm 15 so I always feel like if I start next year (at the earliest) it will be too late especially considering my muscles are stiff and weak, do you think I'd still be able to do it when I get better?
@thelazyhuntress
@thelazyhuntress 7 жыл бұрын
+I Fell Into Wonderland xx Of course you can start, it's not too late. You can even start at a later time as I've heard some people started when they were 22. I have tore my meniscus when I was 14 and after surgery, I was still in too much pain to go back to doing Taekwondo because I never did what I was supposed to do during my healing process so I practically stopped any physical activities for years. As you could imagine, my muscles were no longer strong like they used to be, I could barely run 10 ft without running out of breath but, after years of doing nothing, I finally decided I missed playing sports and I began working out again to build up my muscles. I guess to some people, working out is pretty boring (I am one of those people) but there are other ways you can build your muscles besides weight lifting and all while having fun. For me, it was through ice skating and indoor rock climbing that helped me build my strength again. It was embarrassing at first but I had fun with it and improved over time. It wasn't a process that gave instant results but it helped me. You'll just have to find your own way to help you build yourself up, even if that only way is through ice skating or rollerblading, it's definitely worth it.

Caterina Hunts Exactly. I am 15 years old, older than when most skaters start out, and I just recently began figure skating because of a spark of inspiration. It's been 3 months and after private and group lessons, Ive learned so much and found something I can enjoy sincerely. I actually began figure skating when i was 4 years old, but only continued for about a year. Back then, all i learned was swizzles and simple stroking. 11 years later, i'd forgotten everything and had to relearn it all again. Though that disappointed me quite a lot, 3 months later I have learned all single jumps, am just starting to master my sit spin, and starting to prepare for the axel. As long as you have the passion, the effort, and the mental strength, there is no limit to age if you want to start figure skating.

I feel like ballet and ice skating are pretty similar... When I was little I wanted to do ballet, but never did. I've always did a simple ice skate, but I've never done actual figure skating but I hope to take classes. I still have to learn how to quickly stop as well. I have been in love with the beauty of both for a while now, and I've asked my parents if I could start taking classes, and they said that I'd probably be able to.

Kat Cosplays same. there ain't a rink at all here. i'm not allowed to travel even to the nearest town. there IS space but used only for hockey and the only time you can actually get there is for like an hour on sundays. and i can't go anyway 😂
@Marie-cp6ue

If you can even occasionally, go for it. :) My nearest rink is an hour away from me too, so I only go there once a week; it took me much longer to improve than if I had gone there daily, but after years of going there it shows! Still my favourite sport. The closest I can get to skating on a daily basis is skate boarding and inline skating; while it's fun, it's just not the same.

I'm the exact same way lol I recently found a video of myself skating a program at 9 and it was so weird to see how much I knew but how afraid I was to go a little fast and risk falling or tripping. Lately I personally have found that a boost in confidence and some refresher KZbin videos are my key to relearn my stuff

ok so I've had a certain uptick of figure skating in my search history but I wanna say, this is a great video, all the make-up tips can be transferred to any other competition (or going to clubs) and I really like your positive attitude =) (also - your biceps, girl. seriously. !!!!!)

1) I have this habit where when I have my makeup on and I'm nervous I lick my lips so in the pictures you can always see the lip stick fading Also (I forgot the number) I usually keep a binder and have the moves for the next moves and the field in doing and I have program notes and then I have a checklist to make sure I get it together and then I have a brief description and things to help me remember to keep my leg straight or my foot pointed etc.

I feel bad for female figure skaters. Most of there score is on there performance and how pretty they look. Seriously you have to wear makeup and have your hair up and pretty. And you get a deduction from having a bobby pin fall out??? I would just cut my hair short. Meanwhile guys can just go on the ice and do amazing quads. I have yet to see a female skater perform a quad.
@CC-wj1wq
@CC-wj1wq 7 жыл бұрын
Actually there are many female figure skaters who are working on landing quads! Also, it's easier for males to land jumps because they can build muscle faster thanks to testosterone. That's why male figure skaters and female figure skaters don't normally compete against each other. Also, both genders lose marks for wardrobe malfunctions and both genders gain most of their points from jumps and spins, not how they look :)

Eye Kaite, I also wear headphones even at practice as the music can get annoying what other skaters like plus no one will have my deep house lounge music from NYCHA where my friend JK lived before moving to Utah & did with his friends at NYCHA the best stuff ever! Plus my sony headphones fit me tight even though they are over ear headphones don't wear them on a regular basis like I wear my cowin noise canceling headphones since my cowin's are waaay more comfortable to wear but my sony ice skating headphones call them are great for ice skating! When I get back into ice skating & competing again I will wear my headphones before going out to compete!

I live in north dakota and my brother plays hockey. I taught myself how to skate but I mostly skate like a hockey player because im around them so often. My rink doesn't offer figure skating classes or has a club. I was thinking of asking my dad if I can sign up for a private figure skating class next year in a rink an hour and a half away. But im still not sure because I would only be able to go once a week if I did.

When I was 8 I started doing rhythmic gymnastics (the oldest age you could join). I quit at the age of 10-11 (I don't quite remember). In that short time, I managed to win 3 gold medals, and one silver. I wanted to continue, but my parents couldn't pay anymore, so I had to quit ($300 per month). I am now 14 and can't even do a split anymore. My mom asked me if I want to do gymnastics again, or a new sport when they have the money. I thought of doing swimming, but now I thought I could try figure skating. But then figure skating is the most expensive sport, and I don't know if I'll be able to qualify for competitions at such an old age. Even if I join, I would always feel embarrassed because people younger than me would be better at skating, while skaters my age are going to the nationals. I fear I would never be able to catch up. Not to mention, I don't even have good skates ( I only have hockey skates that don't fit me anymore). School would get hard, as I would be missing a bit due to competition schedules. That's the deal with any sport. Should I try joining when my parents have the money?

I simply skate for recreation (as I have since I was a kid, skating and rollerblading), I like the feel of 'flying' as it were, but can't do any jumps or spins yet, but many of these hacks are just good for life! I'm totally using the lipstick method and the perfume method from now on. I'm also a cosplayer (costumer,) so the hair-threading is a technique I will employ the next time I have an outfit that requires a wig. I'm so DONE with 5 million bobby pins to keep up my waist-length hair. Thank you. :)

I wish I could do figure skating, I was a gymnast for the longest time. But I quit gymnastics due to personal health issues and family issues. But I always have wanted to do figure skating I used to go to the rink next to my gym with my mom all the time and watch the figure skaters. But the rink later on closed and the closet rink is an hour or hour and half away.
