Sakurai could not even be the director of the next Smash Bros. The game could not even be called Super Smash Bros. anymore but Hyper Smash Bros. Mega Smash Bros. or even GIGA Smash Bros., if it will get enough characters. Remember that old honeycomb patterned fake roster with a ludicrous amount of characters that circulated on internet between Melee and Brawl? In case you haven't noticed it we have got closer and closer to it over time. People have said:"The roster of Super Smash Bros. is too big to get any bigger!" countless times already. Almost as many times they have said that about Ridley. Anyway Sakurai said on an interview that the the next Smash Bros. will not be as big of a crossover as the actual one. Which leads to a lot of assumptions and interpretations. Will he be working in the series one more time? Why did he refer to the game as "Smash Bros." and not "Super Smash Bros."? Like: why is the game refered as "Smash Bros." too, without the "Super" part, in the background of the ring stage? Does Sakurai count the spirits as crossovers and they will not return in the next game? Sometimes an answer open the doors to more questions.

While I do think that Ultimate is not the last Smash Brothers game, I do think it's the pinnacle of the series. If the next game keeps all the characters again, and just adds new ones, it wouldn't feel like the NEXT smash brothers game, just more of a Ultimate DX.

I have a hard time wanting a new smash game, because there will probably never, ever be a game as ambitious and loaded with content as Ultimate. I know it won't happen, but I really want ultimate to go the way of many modern games like Minecraft, keep updating it, adding more to it, enhancing it on future consoles, etc. A sequel will likely need to cut out a lot of characters, stages, etc, and that idea kind of bums me out. Yeah i know there would be lots of new content to make up for the loss, but i hate having to lose anything at all considering Ultimate really feels and looks like the best that the franchise can be. They called it Ultimate for a reason after all, because it literally feels like the pinnacle of what a Smash game can be, and if they keep adding new modes with each dlc character the way they've been doing, any future installment will have a really hard time not feeling like a step backwards for the franchise. Idk, I'm not looking forward to a sequel, I hope they wait a really, really long time before they drop a new one.

Well I can't speak for everyone, but in my own personal experience, I always felt like they could improve in every conceivable way all the way up the Wii U/3ds. Ultimate is the first game in the franchise where I'm not sure how they'll outdo it. Even Sakurai himself stated in an interview that he's unsure if he could ever top what he accomplished with this one... I'm not flat out denying the possibility that the sequel will somehow trump ultimate in every way, and I have no doubt that the sequel will have tremendous improvements that will help justify whatever losses, but that's just it. I really feel like the next game will be the one where we really will lose a lot of characters and stages. Like, not just a few characters, a LOT of characters. Not just a few stages, a LOT of stages... all this to basically say I'm in no hurry to move on. Like seriously, I'm about to FINALLY get Banjo & Kazooie after all these years, I don't wanna already start thinking about the possibility of him not showing up in the next one 😂

From the Fighter Pass, each character would come with their own stage, music and spirit board, meaning they'd have to be from franchises that are not represented in Smash. Like what Sakuri has stated, it is very hard to find someone who can truly replace him. He states that he wants someone to take over, but perfectly knows that it’s going to be hard to find a perfect replacement. Sakuri does so so much that must require a lot of knowledge and talent in order to make. If he even tries to make another game that is not Smash related, anyone will instantly assume that at least 1 character will be added in the new smash. He wants to stop, every time he makes the next Smash he always goes in with the mindset of that this will be the last Smash. If he doesn’t stop than he will with a fact take a long long break. There is no surpassing Ultimate in terms of roster, therefore he will make the tough decision to either expand the roster (very unlikely) or he will have to cut characters. Cutting characters will be a really tough decision, but a necessary decision. Because he will be able to flesh out the characters to be more unique and possibly more technical, but not so much that the casuals (for instance me) will not feel left out. Overall Sakuri will have a lot on his shoulders, so even if there will be a next Smash, it would happen in like 4 years for a small announcement. Like that first E3 trailer for Ultimate.

I think it wasn't until ultimate that Nintendo and Sakurai realized just how badly people wanted Waluigi in the Series as a playable fighter. The massive outcry following that E3 reveal I think has truly made them realize that, if they keep Waluigi out any longer, fans will get more furious. That's why the rumor is floating that Waluigi will be the final DLC, since they were decided after the base roster. Nintendo now realizes how much people really do want him in, it just wasn't in time for ultimate, and I'm more than certain they'll fix that in the next game

I honestly think Medusa would work either as an Echo Fighter for Palutena, or a boss in World of Light. Heck it was even rumored that in Classic Mode, the only ones who could fight Medusa are Pit (since she and Medusa are enemies), Palutena (same reason for Pit), and Isabelle (since her route in Classic Mode is about fighting other female characters in the game). I’d say someone from Three houses will be added at the cost of removing a few fe fighters already in Smash. Marth, Lucina & Robin won’t get cut, Ike will be unlikely and the rest are very likely to get cut. Also why isn’t anyone hyping for an Astral Chain rep? Its so easy, we have both protagonist who look the same, siblings which are boy and girl, and is an exclusive Switch game owned by Platinum.

While I think it's a bit too early to think of a sequel to Ultimate, it's certainly going to happen within the next ten years. I can see what you mean with the Zelda reps; a new and original fighter would be sweet. Skull Kid, Midna, or Tingle are my hopes. I know that the meme is Fire Emblem has too many fighters, but it's still a huge Nintendo IP. More than likely, a Three Houses rep will sneak into Smash one way or another. Bandana Waddle Dee is who I imagine would be the next Kirby rep. He's the fourth biggest hero, and people love the guy. I would love to see him Ultimate... Shadow the Hedgehog was someone I was hoping would join Ultimate, but he or another Sonic character can join the fray in the next game. Considering how closely knitted Sonic is with Nintendo, the series can get another fighter. Rex from Xenoblade 2 sounds cool, as does Rayman. I can also agree with a new Pokemon from Gen 8 (or 9) in the next game. Dixie Kong would be a sweet Diddy Echo, and Waluigi needs some spotlight for once. Again, it's rather unlikely that Ultimate will get any sequel anytime soon; the Switch will last for a long time, and Ultimate's not even a year old yet. Still, this was a good video.

I didn’t click like for this video until you said that you wanted Waluigi. Finally someone who understands the unique moveset potential! He was the only MARIO character to be created originally solely for the purpose of a spin-off sports game (in Mario Tennis 64) so I bet his moveset would be representative of not necessarily the Mario platformers, but the spin-offs. He could swing a tennis racket, ride a go kart, kick a soccer ball, play golf, spin a dice to determine the KO of his final smash, and literally infinitely more. He deserves a chance in Smash Ultimate, sure, but seeing Sakurai refuses to put him in, when and if it changes development startups I bet he’ll get the respect he deserves outside of the occasional mocking meme.

I agree with what you said at the beginning of the video with this maybe being Sakuri's last game he works on, but not the last Smash bros game. I gaurentee that there will be another Smash bros game, though it may not be from Sakuri (though I'm certain he'll find someone worthy of continuing the project. Probably Mcleod games because they have the popular Super Smash Flash 2 game that's constantly getting updates, so there's still hope. Oh, and if this is the last Smash bros game, then there's still the fan games like the aforementioned Super Smash Flash 2, so there's always hope).

There are two things I’d like to point out regarding the characters you mentioned. 1) Rex also doesn’t seem likely for the Fighters Pass because his Mii Costume is a bonus for the Fighters Pass. If he was a character in the Fighters Pass, then there would be no point in putting his Mii Costume as a bonus. Also, Xenoblade Chronicles seems to be going in the direction of Fire Emblem and Pokemon with new characters being added each game, so if Xenoblade Chronicles 3 comes out before Smash 6, they could very well add in the XC3 protagonist instead of Rex or even add both Rex and the XC3 protagonist 2) I actually feel that Byleth could be pretty unique since the Sword of the Creator is like a whip sword that can reach pretty far, he could have Divine Pulse which can reverse the time of the opponent when they attack him while it activates, and he can change into his alt form after a certain amount of time or after taking enough damage similar to Joker when he summons Arsene. Even so, they could very well just add the next Fire Emblem protagonist in the next Smash Bros if the next FE game comes out before Smash 6 (they have skipped over FE games when adding protagonists before) or even add in both Byleth and the next FE protagonist, though adding two FE characters in one game will probably piss a lot of people off lol
