How come Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Hyundai and others can build a car that doesn't fall apart in body or mechanical integrity? High end cars are just marketing that make people with money believe they need them. BMW's in particular are shit and fall apart just after the warranty ends. A BMW executive admitted to me that 90% of BMW's are leased with term expiring with the warranty. Then they are resold to a sucker that wants to act like they got money. They own a money pit and eventually give up on it and it ends up a hood car with bond and tape all over it.

BMW's mistake is the use of plastic everywhere - especially on and around the engine. Recipe for constant problems as they age.
@sambrainard3487 Жыл бұрын
The internet says you're wrong about BMW. The figure of vehicles leased is closer to 75%, and much of that is for their starter to middle-of-the-road cars. According to Cartelligent, "The 3 series, 5 series, X1, and X5 are among the BMW models our clients most often choose to lease." We are not talking about top-of-the-line models. This is not the M models, the X7, the 7 series, or the 8 sports car. And if people are leasing them, no shit they're going to turn into garbage moneypits. There's no incentive to maintain the cars or ensure their well-being. You may argue that it's under warranty because its being leased, but that's ridiculous. I'm not leasing a BMW to take it into the shop. I'm leasing it to drive it, and I'm going to drive it until its ragged out and then hand it back to the dealer. The next person who gets the car can deal with it. With regards to ownership and reliability, my mother recently bought, not leased, but actually _bought_ a Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring. With all of the stuff stacked on, its about a $60,000 vehicle. If I so much as grace the side of that door with something that can scratch it, I will be sent straight to holy hell by her wrath. Why? Because she takes pride in her car and its brand. There's a level of personality to it, because as it turns out, when people actually _own_ something, they have a fucking incentive to keep it working. BMW executive or not, your argument is flawed. So let's get this straight about BMWs: they're designed for performance. They are performance luxury vehicles. They do it damn well. The reputation that they get as being 'unreliable' is generally not the vehicles' fault (hear me out). Yes, there are a few models that are notably bad (the E65 7 series and the E53 X5 are among the worst vehicles made in the modern era with regards to reliability), but all-in-all, they're about even with other vehicles. The problem is that the people who buy them expect that they're going to have Honda repair prices, and they're surprised when their fifty-grand car requires parts that cost more than $200. As such, they don't take care of the vehicle and it falls apart. This video is a perfect example. The liner on the sunroof cover is completely gone and the electrical systems are full of issues. This doesn't happen on one day. BMW doesn't design their cars such that everything fails at once. It's a repeated and behavioral neglect of the vehicle that occurs because, again, people don't want to pay the premium. BMW is a performance car company, so of course their cars are going to be chalked full of new technology and overengineered mechanics. As a consequence of this, they are hard to work on and, yes, they have proprietary parts that are only manufactured by BMW itself. If you can't afford to maintain your BMW because you bought it without conducting proper research, it is inevitable that it will fall apart over time. But to then declare BMW an unreliable automobile manufacturer of bad quality because of your personal failure to understand the company's vehicles' inherent flaws is absolutely delusional.

Proud owner of G37 and E90 here. But I can tell you had the Infiniti since day one and hasn’t given me a single issue. Just regular maintenance and no major issue at 85k miles. Drives the same as day 1. On the other side the BMW drives great… when it’s working. Things that break on BMW is unbelievable compared to Japanese cars. However I love both of them.
@Norm100ful Жыл бұрын
I agree with the presenter's observations. I'm a retired QA Specialist and very keen on total value when I purchase anything. Owned a Datsun, Toyota, Ford, GM, BMW, Honda and Mercedes. When purchasing new, I like to buy the Japanese brands, because I will keep them about 10 or more years and are great haulers or commuter vehicles. However, having purchased my first, Used Mercedes many years ago, I loved the ride quality and I was able to sell it at a profit having driven it less than 3 years. Fast forward to 2005, looking for a Toyota, I test drove a 1999 MB CLK320 Cabriolet previously owned been by 4 others and couldn't believe the quality and ride. The price is what drove me to buy it--- $70K car for $28K-- way cheaper than the Toyota. Beautiful, solid, fun and fast car. Enjoyed it for 15 years, sold it for a good price because it still looked fabulous, then replaced it with a 4-year-old MB E350 (3rd owner). Spent $30K, which originally cost $65K new price. The E350 is newer, quieter, gets better gas mileage, and has a 6-cyl, non-turbo engine, which lasts long and is very easy to maintain. Still have two Toyotas, Honda, and an Acura. I do all of my own maintenance on all my cars. Dealers take care of repairs. Repairs are mechanical or electrical failures I can't take care of myself. Repairs on a Mercedes seem to be in $1000 increments, but seem reasonable to me, so far. I compare it to my Honda Pilot that had about $3500 in repairs the first 60K miles, so the MB is good value for me. I've had very good luck with all my Toyotas, especially the older ones. The maintenance has been easy and repairs almost non-existent. That is why I normally have to buy a new one, because, like me, no one sells them until they are old, or very old, and have high mileage.

Here in Europe, we say you lose 60% value in the first 5 years of ownership, and that is the bank assessed residuals if you want a loan with a lean on the car you buy. Granted the last two years of a 5 year loan are often the most brutal, but 70-76% is very high by European standards, or rather east Scandinavian standards....

Great 10 car list! But this could easily have been a top 25 vehicle list. A lot of other luxury models are missing that also loses a ton of value the first three years (equal or more than this list), and the mechanical/electrical issues vary by each luxury car. Personally I've owned Mercedes, Bmw M's and Range Rovers from New and used CPO's. But the key is not to go to the dealers after warranty but local reputable mechanics that specializes on these luxury brands. These luxury vehicles come with a lot more electronics and mechanical/electrical components than regular cars. Also, finding certain problems may be lot of headaches but well known problems are easily identifiable/fixable. For example, when my Mercedes GLS's air bag suspension went, Dealer quoted me $5K+ and local mechanic replaced the air bags for less than half of that. But now, post Covid, automobile market is CRAZY!!! So all bets are off. Last year, I saw a Toyota Rav4 prime for $95K with markup. Kia Telluride with $15K markup, lol.

I prefer sporty vehicles, but I love this suv. This thing hugs the road and I feel very confident in it. The accident avoidance systems have proved useful. It rides well on the crappy Colorado roads, but I will replace the run flats with non run flats. The different drive modes help with the driving experience and putting it in sport or sport+ really livens up the drive. I don’t keep cars for more than 3 or 4 years so a CPO might be the way to go so you at least an extra year on warranty. My biggest gripe is some roads bring out some creaks and body noise, but overall I love this thing. It’s one of my favorite vehicles I’ve owned.

Price is decent on the slightly older models, and I find the new showroom models with big dash screen update is overpriced, but nice car overall. Moderate levels of reliability and fit and finish are decent.

Recently got an offer on my '87 944S for more than I paid for it. Still less than I paid for it once you figure in inflation, so I'll be keeping it. Over the last 30 years it's been more reliable than my Subaru or my wife's old Grand Caravan.

I've been following the Jaguar F-Type r prices over the last 6 months or so. Holy cow! The new ones are over 100,000 US!! However, to your point, One that is a few years old can be purchased at a really good price. Although I would never buy the six-cylinder version, those could be purchased at a bargain, arguably. Great vehicles!
@ECPP Жыл бұрын
Totally agree Thomas, the F Types are a pricey little car and thats why I found more value in getting one thats about 2 years old and added a little warranty. Much better deal that way. I also really love the V8 as it just has the right blend of sounds and power, that few cars come close to. There can be some deals out there though, with a little searching or willing to travel for the right car. Hope you are having a great week..
@sburns2421 Жыл бұрын
At least in the US they no longer have I-4 or V6 models for the F-type, only fast V8 and really fast V8 are options for '23. @18:40 We have an F-pace we bought new in '16 (V6). Has been mostly trouble-free except last year the plastic Y-pipe cracked under the SC. Terrible design. At 70,000 miles it made sense to replace the supercharger nose bearings as they were noisy and replace the water pump since everything was apart. Only one day in the independent shop but a painful $2,900 US bill.

Not always. Bought a 5 year-old Mercedes that had 4 owners before me. Worked out great. Apparently, they had warranty work or spent their money on fixing all the things that broke or needed adjusting before I bought the car. Drove it for 15 years and the person who bought it was thrilled.

The main reason I like the Lexus is resale value and likely about 10 years and up. Lexus right now if infinite horrendously endlessly money pits as they age. And that will be an expensive parts and and maintenance in not cheaper. Don’t think Lexus is cheaper. No. Those are expensive cars and maintenance like any other luxury vehicles plus Lexus is UNAFFORDABLE cars. Don’t tell me (ohh Lexus is way cheaper than other vehicles and all that) no. Lexus is way unaffordable and maintenance costs too much money

@@patrickchilds5486 I have all of these clue fool. Lexus is endless money pits as they age. Parts are way too expensive. Don think changing the oil and filter because is cheap. But the parts itself you punk is totally expensive to fix. I drove a Lexus LX and it’s too uncomfortable and too narrow seats. Lexus is unaffordable. You don’t have any clue to read the truth 😂 LEXUS IS UNAFFORDABLE CARS AND SUV PERIOD!!!!

Lexus is low Maintenace, you must have gotten one from the corner car dealership, which results in regret. You buy it CPO at Lexus and its good. Also there going to be expensive. it's a luxury brand, not your dodge dart. 2013 gs350 here btw
