My toilet bowl is always immaculately clean. I was doing this even before the Atomic Habits book (that says that we should try to aim to make things at least 1% better). I put a drop of toilet bowl cleaner and scrub my toilet bowl (with a long brush) after I flush - whichever number I do, 1 or 2. Thus, nothing accumulates or has the opportunity to anything looking or smelling nasty. (I hate going to malls or homes that rely on air freshener to mask their poorly maintained toilets!)

Don't you find that it's fun to clean your home though when you have a beautiful new home like yours? I used to not like to clean, but since moving into a newer home, which was about about 10 years old when we moved in, everything is so new and nice and I just love to clean it and keep it looking pretty:) Of course I just enjoy cleaning I guess because of the result that it brings, such a peaceful place to be. I also find that if I'm stressed or have anxiety besides reading and praying in the Word, cleaning helps me to relax and be calm. Isn't that a Chinese Evergreen on your kitchen counter? I have one but my leaves don't drape down quite like that, which is extra 😍 I think they are such beautiful plants! My cleaning tips are: Routines! Morning and Evening, routines, and especially ZONE cleaning and Weekly Home Blessing.. It's the flylady method that some other KZbin creaters have explained. Which includes, a daily or every other day, "swish and swipe." I use flushable wipes or a paper towel daily for the toilet bowl. If you do a swish & swipe daily, your toilet bowl is always pretty clean! ( kinda like changing out the dust filters ). Swish is the toilet, swipe means to quickly wipe down the counter. My other tip: Clean when your home is not dirty, then it won't ever seem dirty! After doing the flylady method this way for 5 yrs now, I find that our home is always clean for the most part so no more of those all day long cleaning marathons before company might arrive😉 But instead, I have ingrained daily cleaning habits instilled these days.

Ashlynne, which of the Tru Earth do you use? The scented one or no scent and the platinum or regular?
@---nj7hl2 жыл бұрын
As a Single Mom w a child with disabilities. I try to Wash 2x a month. Similar to what Ashlynne said. Wash All at once. Also, saves on Time/Energy/Gas driving around. I also hang All the clothes, easier to find and deal with. And just stick socks and undies in a drawer. I already have a lot on my plate. WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER.

My cleaning hack is: make sure every item has a home. If everything is easy to put away, you're more likely to put it away. Everything needs to have an accessible assigned spot and suddenly it's like your home keeps itself clean. I also follow the "1 minute rule" where if it's able to be done in a minute, I just take care of it! :)

Great tips, I already do many of these. One thing I do, as a mom, is I use the no fold method for my kids laundry. My boys are 4yo and because they put their own laundry away and dress themselves everything ends up unfolded anyways. So I save myself some time by just sorting their stuff into a pile for them to put away. Also, another mom hack, I save myself I have my kids help by restocking the toilet paper in the bathroom, putting laundry in the washing machine, or doing other small simple tasks for me. It saves me a few minutes and they get the added benefits of feeling like they're contributing and learning some basic life skills.

Hey Ashlynne, I loved these tips! What a great video! Some of my most helpful cleaning tips are to: -never leave a room empty handed (take one or two things to put away each time you leave a room) and to: -reset the room each time you leave (try to put back what you got out when you are done in each room. That way it never builds up on you and makes tidying overall a lot quicker)

My favorite part of cleaning is when it's done as a team effort! I know you and Christopher tend to share household chores, but in my home, my dad usually does the vacuuming and mopping, and when needed, I'll go around my space or other parts of the house to do a quick tidying or dusting. Truly, that just makes the whole process easier 😊

Something that I do to make my life easier is to have a routine. Example: make sure the surfaces of the kitchen and dishes are clean before going to sleep. And also tidying a little, I try to keep it less than 10 minutes 😊 definitely will use tip of leaving the toilet bowl for last, thanks for the ideas!

Tips: Sometimes when my the cleanliness of my home gets out of control I can get really overwhelmed and try to deep clean the entire house in one day, and I don’t get it all done and end up stressed out, exhausted, and feeling like I accomplished nothing. When there’s a lot to do, I like to break up the job. I’ll tell myself that today I responsible for cleaning the living room and laundry only, or the kitchen only, or the bathroom only. Then, I feel I accomplished what I set out to do and I’m motivated to tackle the rest of the house later or the next day! Another tip, I like to train myself to associate tasks I don’t like with things I enjoy. For example, I save KZbin videos or my favorite shows to watch while I fold laundry. You can also listen to music or podcasts while you do the dishes or even something as simple as using good smelling dish soap or light your favorite candle while you tidy the living room :)

My cleaning back is scheduled days for certain chores throughout the month. My brother is Autistic and I struggle with mental illness so noticing and then having the motivation to clean is really low on our personal skill lists. So I sat down with him to schedule days for tasks so it’s not overwhelming for either of us, but it still gets cleaned. Now on the days where I’m mentally here and can get other things cleaned, I do, but having those backup days have been a life saver at keeping us from living in filth.

I used to do the bulk cleaning but now with 2 children I hate to have x amount of hours busy cleaning at the weekend so do it every night when they’re asleep. Especially now there’s so much washing I do a load a day!!!! So I’m in the habit of folding that days laundry before bed each day, has helped so much!

I use a 5-second rule: If you can put something away in 5 seconds or less, put it away now. If it would take more than 5 seconds, you can decide whether to do it now or later. I’ll pick up an item and start counting down. You’d be amazed how much you can get put away soooo quickly without even noticing it. We tend to use things and then set them down instead of putting them away, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

On the air filter thing. We buy a year supply at a time and keep them in the packaging in the garage. Also we do it the same date every month, for instance we do our pet's antiparasitic preventives and the filters the 10th every month, it makes it easy to remember! Also if you are 1 to 2 ppl in a home quarterly changes may be enough. If you have 1 to 2 pets with hair, or 3-4 ppl in a home then every other month. If you are more humans or more hairy pets, then monthly is a must. Believe me we have 3 humans and 6 small hairy pets. We've observed the progression empirically over time!

Ha ha the toilet. Well for me that’s both toilets and the cat “toilets” lol. And then the floors are THE last thing. My biggest hack (mostly this came from having multiple cats lol) is probably that I use the vac hose (with brush attachment) for a lot of “dusting” and baseboards and other things such as cobwebs or ceiling fans, sofa/chairs etc and most of all it’s very fast and thorough and efficient for dander and Bcuz cats tend to get on so many higher surfaces like shelves and so on. It also helps reduce how often I have to go around wiping everything off. 😬 I have a more fancy pet roller brush attachment I use at times too, but the basic brush works well for most areas.
