I have plenty of money. The best thing about having money isn't spending money, but going to bed at night not worrying about money. That's better than anything I can buy.

Whoa. Hard agree! They've done studies on this - being short of money also starts making you do EVERYTHING short-term. It's like the Vines Boots Theory, but it carries over to your whole life. There was a stretch a few years ago where I shoved everything I could into a few tax-shielded accounts at the end of the year to hit the limits, and cut my bank account really low. That was a nervous week as pay came in and big bills went out within a day of each other.

I noticed as I get older, l seem to deni myself of things I enjoy . Because of money needed for necessities of life . But then I think tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us. It's a double-edged sword for me .

I’m a bit late but I was really confronted with this when my sister in law passed away before age 40 due to unexpected surgery complications. Life isn’t guaranteed. But she also has almost nothing to her name and what she did have went through probate which was HORRIBLE. Have a will and leave a legacy or have life insurance (she had a dependent, a minor son). It’s a balance to enjoy life at its fullest and also invest for future you to enjoy life at its fullest in older years and have a legacy to give to loved ones and donate to charities you care about.

Regarding needs vs. wants - I'm not a minimalist by ANY stretch. I've tried it; it drove me nuts. Instead, I try to be a Conscious Maximalist. If I want something, I try to thrift or buy second hand. If I no longer want or use something, I sell it or donate it. I keep my space tidy and clean, and I LIVE by the rule that "everything has a place." That way, I'm still able to enjoy all my ~things~ without hoarding, overconsuming, or driving myself nuts.

“No is a complete sentence.” Amen. There’s a guy I work with whose car broke down in MARCH and he still doesn’t have his own ride to work. He used to ask me every day if I could take him home (he lives miles from me, it’s not like it’s even on my way-but that’s not even the point) and the first couple of times I’d say things like, “I’m not going home.” Or “I’m headed in the opposite direction.” Then I remembered that “no” is truly a complete sentence. So any time he asked me after that I just said no. And he finally got the message and doesn’t ask me anymore.
@timothyswauger3984

I have dealt with that too. Guy at work had his car repossessed then tried to throw his inconvenience in my lap by getting me to drive him home which was a half hour out of my way. I didn’t want to do it even if he gave me gas money so I said no and didn’t care if he got mad.

Nicole I had a piece of U.S basic economic information for you: Why do so many Americans live above their means? More than half of Americans earning over $100,000 a year live paycheck to paycheck. So what's going on? Many experts point to a phenomenon called lifestyle inflation as one of the culprits. Lifestyle inflation, or lifestyle creep, is the pattern of spending a little more as a person's income increases.Dec 11, 2023

One of the things I finally decided to have the moment of "screw what other people think or say about it" was my change to a vegetarian/flexitarian diet. For years I have wanted to eat more that way but peer pressure to eat like the majority stopped me. It has been a fun learning experience on how to adapt to the new way of eating as I have a couple allergies and intolerances that make it a bit more challenging. An allergy to tree nuts and a severe intolerance to most beans T_T I am glad I can eat tofu though! Learning to make it just right has been fun. The reason I am responding now is because of your advice to be kind to animals. I believe this to my whole soul. So much so that I can no longer eat meat. Or I should say mammals. I try to be a vegetarian, but I will make an exception for fish, because fish like mackerel and salmon are very nutritious. Anyways, looking forward to your next video.

Married to the same gal for 56 years and I go for a drive -- once she told me I needed to go on a trip and stay away for a couple of days because SHE did not "like" my attitude. So, I went for a drive and she called me about 4 hours later and asked me when I was going to return because dinner was about ready. I told her I was around 200 miles away and was doing as she had asked. Of course she told me to turn around and come home. I laughed and said I'll be home in a couple of days. Puerto Rican women are really intelligent - beautiful - great cooks - all knowing LOL (El hombre propone - pero - la MUJER dispone) --- so I learned her language because I wanted to be able to speak to the members of her family that spoke little or no English. I have a guideline... if I return to a potential purchase 2x or 3x and it's in the 100-400 dollars ]price range , I buy it. If I keep overthinking it, I just buy it and move on. If I have a feeling that a purchase might be frivolous or i might not actually really enjoy it, I make a decision to revisit it on a week and see how I feel about it then. For books, if I have big list of books I want to buy but find myself hesitating, I cross out half of them or 2/3 of them to reduce the cost then buy the rest. Since my tendency is more not to spend, i need to encourage myself in these ways to go ahead and get those things that I know i generally get real value out of that are recurrent thoughts.

This is me in a female version. Maybe I'm more extreme on some parts in the frugal lifestyle. I don't let my water from the shower flowing away. I take a bucket and flush the toilet with it. Just put it in that box where you push the button. Why would you use perfect drinking water to flush your toilet? You're paying for drinking water and you're going to flush the toilet with it??? I also do not use light , I always have a headlamp on when it's dark. It's cheaper to buy batteries for the headlamp in discount stores. I steal toilet paper from public spaces like the library and also upload smartphones and laptops there. Use a standalone oven that you can put with you in the room where you spend the most time to make your meal. The heat will warm up your room. If it's winter, don't use your fridge, put your food outside in boxes. I can go on with this for hours.... Just take your sh*t together advice serious!
