XJ sitting on 31's with a 3" rough country cheapo lift. It's begging for 33's or 35's and a nice lift with all the goodies. No inspiration. No motivation. Too bad you don't do house visits like Stacey David did for awhile. Kind of like an emergency make over visit. LOL. Luv watching, hope some day I can go on the trips you and Trail Recon go on. Maybe get the whole fab youtube crew together for a trip? You, Trail Recon, Lite Brite, Fab Rats, Matt's offroad, Bleepin Jeep, etc. That would be epic. Hell, that would motivate me to finish the XJ!

Australian off-road like hell. Love their canopy system. I, got the latest ISUZU 2021 D-max top variant just when it was released and slowly building up. Trail recon, Dirt lifestyle and 4WD24/7 got me.
@DirtLifestyle3 жыл бұрын
I hope you enjoy the video!!! Budget of course means different things to different people. All said and done this is about 25k worth of parts and material including the cost of the rover. For an off-road rig that is triple locked with 1 ton axles, a roof top tent, custom suspension, one of a kind bumpers, sliders, gull wing windows, a full air system, dual batteries and a full size fridge... this price is rock bottom. The capabilities of a 1 ton Land Rover on 37s is extremely high for the money you spend. For comparison my stock as a rock Toyota Tacoma cost me 43k and its still on 30" highway tires lol. That same Tacoma with all these specs would be a 70k dollar build easy. This Land Rover Discovery 2 took thousand of hours and lots of carful planning but I absolutely love the way it turned out. It still does 70 on the hwy and it floats over obstacles on the trail. If you want to learn more check out the series of videos I did on this Discovery. It is very detailed and you can see all that is involved in making this truly one of a kind Off-road monster!
@tysonj39103 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the cost. I agree that you definitely got a lot of bang for your buck. I'm not sure how you don't get overwhelmed having so many rigs though. How do you even pick which one to drive let alone which one gets new parts!?
@DirtLifestyle3 жыл бұрын
@@tysonj3910 lol it's a little overwelming but but I manage it fine. I ran the plumbing side of new construction for many projects over the years so I'm use to having many irons in the fire. And I like getting to choose what to drive lol. It's pretty fun to figure out what to take to the gym in the morning 😁

Nate I am so impressed with your many talents. My son-in-law & I also each have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery SE7. We also love these vehicles & have taken them on numerous off road adventures in the last two years. However, one problem that continues to plague us is overheating. We live in the Phoenix area so we have excessive ambient air temp. in the summer of 105-115 degree for many months. We have both installed Ultra Gauges to monitor our coolant temp. During summer months our coolant temp. run about 195-203 at speeds of 40-45 mph. At stop lights or stop & go traffic we can hit 205-208 degrees. What is the max. temp. of the 4.6 V-8 engine in these vehicle before we can expect damage? Have you had any heating problems with your D2 or have you done anything to address overheating? Your 1,000 mile summer trip is absolutely amazing to us!

@DirtLifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Lol I feel you. And yes you can build an offroad rig for less but if you want all these features, capabilities and durability it's gonna cost some money. The TJ is one of the better value for dollar spent in my opinion because the low weight high reliability is pretty damn Good right out of the box. And I've been saying this for years but a TJ on 35s will do 99% of the trails in America 🇺🇸 You got a great platform to start with

It was great meeting with you at CES-thanks for taking the time to speak with me about the Discovery build. I finally found a 2004 Discovery for a project build late last month so here we go….my third LR build is on. Can’t thank you enough for this series. As we discussed, I have been working on Rovers for about 20 years and I have never seen anyone document a build as comprehensively as you have with this Discovery. It’s really hard to find this level of detail on a Rover project. You will help a lot of people who are interested in this very unique vehicle. By the way, what was the name of that additive you were putting in the vehicle to stop the “alleged” slipped cylinder sleeve problem (I may have the same problem…)?
