The last exercise is always so hard with Cheryl's lessons because that's when you realize how much trauma you have surrounding vocal coaching. I'm seriously on the edge of tears when she says "remember that, no matter, what you have a gift." Like damn if I had one vocal coach who might have said that to me rather than some of the verbal abuse that I've experienced, I'd probably practice more because there isn't so much anxiety attached to preparing for lessons. Thank you for working to undo that culture Cheryl! You make me want to sing again!

there are so many voices in the mind that prevent freedom in the voice. Tension starts in the mind. The fears, the anxiety, the thoughts then translates into the voice. I just found this lovely vocal coach right now and i too shared the same experience of wanting to cry. We must remember it is a precious gift that should bring a wealth of joy, peace, and healing. I hope you do start singing again with a free mind and spirit.

My voice was shaking, doing the warm down. I couldn’t stop my tears from welling up, and my throat from choking. I needed the assurance. After the pandemic, not being able to sing, and depression not allowing me to just stand up and start practicing, my technique really rusted over, and I’ve been having a hard time getting back to where I was. Tension in your throat it's because you're not using the diaphragm rigth. If you fell tension, stop IMMEDIATELY the exercise and re-start it. Sorry for my English.

I had a teacher who gave me confidence but pushed me too far knowing i had anxiety about stage preformance. she had me sing a solo and i croaked and havent been able to sing in front of anyone since, everyone who knows mew except my family thinks im terrible because i just get so scared and tense up. you make me feel relaxed and feel like ill be able to sing on a stage again some day and even when i mess up i get told good job (even if its a recording lol) its just very encouraging

I am a theater performer and have had coaches for many, many years. I have a couple of nephews who I would love to join me on stage, but they seem very hesitant. Instead of pushing them, I play tracks like these while we drive around so they not only hear proper vocal technique, but also positivity. I have even heard one of them, in moments of solitary play, singing quietly or just doing some vocal exercises on his own.
