I've been skating for a month, the other day I went to a park and decided to try learning to roll in. I fell probably 15 times and had a blast, and the more experienced skaters were super stoked that I was trying and they were willing to give tips and pointers. Just go to the park and try! And don't be afraid to talk to people!
@SkatingwithAaron4 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! Good for you! Only way to learn is to get out there and try. Most people at the park will be glad to lend some tips like you experienced. That’s a big part of why I love the skate community! Let me know if I can help with anything!

Hey John, there actually is a reason not to push mongo. When you push regularly your center of gravity is over the center of the board making it a lot more stable and easy to keep your weight centered. When you push mongo your center of gravity is on the back of the board and makes it a lot harder to balance. Obviously people who have been skating. along time like Tiago aren't going to have a problem with it, but as someone who has been teaching skating for a long time I can say a lot of my students are noticeably more stable when pushing normal

I have to say, I'm a huge fan of you, John. When I first started getting into the world of YouTubing/vlogging content, especially in the skateboarding world, Chris Chann was always my favorite for his educational and inspirational, skating based content.. which is kinda how I found you. But he's gone in a direction I don't resonate with anymore as far as content(no offense and only love and honor to him). You have remained truly centered and on a rhythm/path that I genuinely love and benefit from as a human being and skater. Actually, I used to be annoyed of you at one point a few years back, but you've grown and become someone I really respect. I hope you see this. And I hope Chris Chann does too. I miss when his content was more wholesome and educational like this. All love, all love. God bless 💜💜

Great video! I do have to disagree with the $100 requirement, and mongo. While yes a $100 board will be far better, a beginner skater doesn’t need to spend that much on something they may not even stick with. As for mongo if you’re able to push smoothly and controlled, there’s nothing wrong with it. Most of us aren’t pros bombing lines in the street so no harm in it...again as long as you don’t look goofy and out of control doing it.

Mongo puts your weight on the back of the board instead of centering it. Think about where your hips end up over the board. Pushing "normal" is actually much more efficient and effective.

Ok, no. The problem with pushing mongo is that it creates something called an inverted pendulum, which is inherently more unstable, also once you put the foot on the board, it takes longer to set them up. Mall grab is just downright a stupid rule.
@SkatingwithAaron4 жыл бұрын
100% on the mongo. I go back and forth depending on the situation and setup time needed. Gives me legs a break as well!
@420gangweedman34 жыл бұрын
Plus, it’s easier to setup your feet for a trick if you push with the front foot. The back foot usually just has to pop so you can slap in on the tail wherever
@SkatingwithAaron4 жыл бұрын
@@420gangweedman3 Agreed! I think it’s super easy to setup. Just a matter of getting comfortable/ smooth pushing that way.

As a kid, I tried Mongo, and realized it was completely unstable for high speed pushing... Not sure how anyone would ever evolve to do it this way by choice...
@mikearisbrocken85074 жыл бұрын
@@ollieanthem9213 I believe is that for starting is "safer". Because if the board gets stuck by a pebble, you have your front foot ready to just do a step forward and not fall. Mainly this is because they have not learned how to shift the weight to avoid this. When they push, they send their center of gravity forward, because "that's where you are trying to push".

The best way to improve quickly in the beginning is just try to learn a bit of everything and get used to your board. Being able to ride around confidently makes learning tricks way easier later on. Learning how to balance on things like ramps and quarter pipes first will make landing and balancing flat ground tricks way easier. Trying to learn things like ollies and kickflips before you can even tic-tac around the local skatepark means you're rushing ahead too quickly before learning the basics.

The not push mongo think is more like a universal thing, we all tell people to avoid it. But mall grabbing? Naahh... Come on if you don't mall grab you have like two options: rub the griptape on your body/clothes or rub the griptape on your forearm, while trying to keep the board balanced and not wiggling as you walk....yeaaaaahhh way better than mall grabbing...suuuuuure LOL

Tip. 7 is the tip I give to people at the skatepark most often and one I take to heart. If I'm trying something new and I mess up 15 times, I just stop and go do something I know I can land 100% of the time. Even if it's totally unrelated to the trick I'm trying, because I believe in that old saying, "the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result." So I don't. If I'm trying something new on a ledge and I can't land it, I go skate the 2 stair or the manny pad for like 3-5 mins, then go sit down for a minute, drink a little water, and return to it. It actually blows my mind how often I do this, and when I come back and within my first two or three tries I can tell that I got much closer to landing it, or that I now understand something about the trick that I didn't understand before because I was just uselessly trying it over and over without thinking about why I'm messing it up.
