The main thing I hate about GT is that they nerfed everyone to when everyone, excluding Goku, were pretty much useless. Also Vegeta never went super sayin 3 and basically cheated to go 4 something he would never do. I always found GT completely pointless due to goku being a kid. It got so annoying because Goku only became my favorite character when he grew up. Then super sayan 4 came along and I was thinking "So you make him a kid, only to make him an adult when he gets serious about a fight." The problem is that goku is a fully developed character. He doesn't need anymore character development and as a result the series suffers. Wafflecone69 I’m gonna go ahead and defend GT. GT suffers from bandwagon disapproval. A lot of people dislike GT just because everybody else dislikes it. GT made mistakes but so did Z and Dragonball. In Z, they completely forgot about many things in Dragonball such as reviving a character having rules and stipulations such as keeping the body in tact and there being a time limit. In Z, you could use the dragonballs to wish an unlimited amount of people back no matter the time or condition of the body. They also forgot about their characters. Yamcha was a force to be reckoned with. But he was clearly weaker than Tien. But every character meant something. Each one has techniques that made him special. Solar flare, kamehameha, flying nimbus even! It was martial arts. Gohan didn’t kill Piccolo because he was the strongest. He FIGURED OUT how to win. In Z, all of this was dropped for power scaling. Solar flare? Anybody can do it. Kienzan? Vegeta saw it done and warned Nappa and then literally throws one at Great Ape Gohan the same day. Frieza too! And with the whole Super Saiyan deal, they tossed away any relevance any character who isn’t a Saiyan once had. By the Frieza arc, anybody outside of Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta were completely useless. Androids? Nobody did anything except Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, And Trunks. Piccolo fused with Kami only to stall 17 as the scatter shot was blocked by an energy field and the He’ll zone grenade did NO damage to Cell. Everyone was useless except Saiyans. (Tien held Cell back so that’s great! But let’s face it, Goku could have just instant transmissioned his way there and teleported the androids to King Kai’s place like he did with Cell). Buu arc? Piccolo signs up and forfeits, the saiyans fight and release Buu. Goku goes SSJ3 and toys with Buu but wants KIDS to fight and lets a bunch of 8 year olds who never had a real fight in their lives be the deciding factor in whether the planet survives or not. Gohan is powered up and serves no purpose and GOKU comes back...and finishes the fight (I though GT focused on Goku too much.). Point is, Z took away so much more than GT could. With power scaling and transformations, they ruined all of their cast. Then we blame GT for not being able to fix that. Why no Gotenks? Because the boys don’t train; they said that at the end of DBZ. Gotenks is barely stronger than SSJ3 Goku and not as strong as Mystic Gohan. SSJ4 is a limit breaker transformation AND Goku had been in deep training for over a decade. His base form in GT was as strong as his SSJ3 form IN Z as Goku stated to Rildo. So SSJ4 Goku was so far ahead of the other characters that there would be no point in Trunks and Goten fusing guys. Power scaling rules that DBZ made causes anybody who isn’t Goku or Vegeta to be irrelevant.

As for #5, Super actually does manage to do the whole "self-righteous villain thinking he's the good guy" thing pretty well. Where Baby failed with this concept, Zamasu pulls it off fairly nicely with his whole god complex thing and his task of erasing all the sins and mistakes of the gods from the universe.

I do agree that the focused too heavily on Saiyans in the last arc of DBZ and while Gohan may have been seen as pathetic, he wasn't that bad, they just showed that he didn't train, which was realistic for him; they did show him as a badass again when he fought against Super Buu so even during the last arc he still had some relevance in terms of power. I also do agree that they didn't utilize the cast much, esp. in the manga, but was was offset to a degree by having new cast members, like Goten, Trunks, and some parts with Videl. Actually the anime has utilized the cast more in general than the manga does in DBZ, such as the car driving episode, Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha and Chiaotzu's training with King Kai, the Other World Tournament, and the Krillin and Yamcha time on Grand Kai's planet. Anyway, I am still want to know what mistakes you think the original DB series made.

I know everyone hates GT, but I think it was actually decent. I mean the only major complaints I have is the drop in animation quality rather than plot line issues. To be honest, I liked Baby, and Super 17 and Omega Shenron. I mean sure the show has it's issues, but if you just take it and enjoy it for what it is, you're going to enjoy it. I think really the reason it gets so much hate is people wanted "Dragonball Z 2" rather than a new series with the same characters. I mean this is the same reason people hate sequel games and sequel movies. It's because of this biased desire to have a continuation of the original (which in this case would be a sequel itself) and the refusal to accept ANYTHING that deviates at all from what DBZ was. I mean by that same logic, most of the fans aren't that fond of Dragonball. What people need to realize, GT wasn't nearly as bad as what they think. If you hated DBGT, dig deep down and tell me after you examine yourself with complete honesty, why you hated the series. Most likely you'll say it wasn't what you knew as Dragonball Z which is nostalgia blinders.

Well, let's go down the list. 10: Killing off Piccolo. No, fairly certain Piccolo's still alive in DBS. In fact, I believe right now he's training with Gohan. 9: No Gotenks. Gotenks has appeared in DBS, but he would kind of be irrelevant to the story. 8: Conflicting Emotional messages. Not really; the stakes always feel exactly as high as they are in DBS, and there hasn't really been any random silliness. 7: Holding off on transformations. The thing Blackenfist is pointing out here is about how it affects the pace of the fighting. In GT, Goku holds off on transforming for a really, REALLY long time; like, until it's almost too late. Meanwhile, in Super, if Goku starts to get pushed onto his back foot, he'll go "Oh. Lemme shift up and see if that's more your speed." 6: Absence of Toriyama. No, Toriyama is writing Super. 5: Misuse of Baby. Irrelevant, but let's look at DBS' use of villains overall. Beerus was a really good and charming villain; he existed to show that there's a world far beyond what even Goku has managed to achieve; he serves as the "bigger fish" and is the kicking off point for the entire series. He remains a key character to the most recent episode (also following the trend of Goku's enemies becoming his friends). Frieza was... a little bit of a waste, yeah, but he was still on-point. The story could have progressed as normal without that arc. Hit/Champa didn't really measure up to Beerus, but that arc was more about the super dragonballs and world building than the villains. Finally, Goku Black, who hasn't fully baked yet. So, I don't see too much of a problem here. 4: Despite what you may believe, Goku and Vegeta aren't really getting any more 'focus' than the other characters, at least not to the extant as in GT. Yes, Goku and Vegeta are doing most of the fighting, but the fights aren't what's moving the plot forward, it's what's happening in the background that's moving us from A to B. It was like this in DBZ, too. 3: Not living up to the ideas. This is something that can't really be called until the series is at its end; there are a lot of plot threads going in Super right now, and we just don't know yet whether or not they're going to be wrapped up neatly or just abandoned. 2: Underuse of Cast. See point 4. 1: Changing Goku into a child. The point Blackenfist was trying to make here is that goku's character REGRESSES in GT, which isn't case in Super. The best showcasing of this were the episodes right after the Champa arc, where Goku had to chill for a bit, and it was making him feel like an old man.

I would refute your entire list, but I'm too lazy to refute it. So here's me refuting the first point. Of course nobody dies or is going to die in Super (Present Timeline). Whis literally provides a do-over, making any mistakes null and void, like deaths. If Whis and Beerus were not taken into account, the Earth would be destroyed and everyone on it, including Vegeta, would be dead, and Frieza would win. This technique is basically plot armor, and it makes the stakes and consequences of making a mistake even lower than ever before in the series.

Blazing Kurama Not as much as you'd think. Even if we assume that Whis would be willing to rewind time for every little thing that happens (which is unlikely), he can only rewind time three minutes at a time (which functionally requires he be on-scene) and can only do it once in a while. So, let's say frieza blows Krillin up, Whis rewinds it, they prevent frieza from blowing Krillin up, but then Frieza blows the planet up. Then what?

How can you even use that logic? By that kind of stupid logic the ten year time gap now can't be considered canon because there's no mention of Beerus, no mention of Goku Black, or SSG or SSB. Frankly it's not that certain if it's been ruled out. Personally I'd say it basically has because it's hard to reconcile the idea he'd be using a super saiyan 4 instead of SSB, but then again from a timeline stand point the show is still 4 years from the end of DBZ's ending with pan at the world martial arts tournament. I guess one could assume though there was no reason to have mentioned Beerus and he wouldn't have used SSB in a fight with him hell I don't think he even went super saiyan if I recall fighting Uub. But whatever though I don't think it's that important I guess. For number 7 is you actually watched the beginning you'd see that Goku as a kid cannot perform the instant transmission technique, which leads me to believe as a kid Goku uses up a lot more energy going super saiyan during a fight, and that's why he's reluctant to use super saiyan as a kid. GT wasn't the best show, but as a kid I loved it and I thought bringing in a tuffle (Baby) against a saiyan (Goku) was very unique. Overall GT wasn't bad, but cut them some slack, we all know the OG show is gunna be better. Obviously DBZ never failed to keep our eyes glued to the television, but GT was not at all a bad series

It's a shame that Super is at a point where we have to compare it to GT. I honestly think Super is better mostly because it makes way less mistakes. Putting aside the animation issues, the only thing I can fault Super on is making Goku and Vegeta the only relevant z fighters (which could change in the future) and not putting enough tension into the story at times. Ssj4 was dumb it didn't fit with the natural progression of super saiyan, and they stopped using great ape for a reason, and it doesn't make sense that Goku was able to get his tail back. What, all he had to do was work hard? WHAT WAS HE DOING BEFORE, MESSING AROUND? It should've gone to SSG because it makes sense if you look at the designs. The super Saiyan thing WAS attempted to be explained as Goku's new child body was no longer able to contain his full power, so going super could only be used in emergencies. However that's a cop-out as far as I'm concerned. It also speaks to Goku's LOVE of fighting. He loves himself a good fight so he'll often hold of on changing just to prolong a fight. Often resulting in letting his guard down and getting wrecked, but it's in his character.

I''m going to add my own corollary to your worst mistake GT did, if you let me. Making Gokuh a kid again... and not mattering a single bit. The only thing that really happens to Gokuh when he becomes a kid, besides letting himself behave in a more childish way, is that he loses *some* of his power, but he is still, by far, the strongest character in the series until Baby fuses with Vegeta. And even then, the only reason he loses against the Vegeta Baby is because he can't properly use SSJ3 (implying that as an adult, he would have oneshoted him, or at least win against him, posibly even without really needing SSJ3). So there, it literally doesn't matter, because he behaves like a kid when he feels like doing that, and goes back to adult when needed, and even when losing a fraction of his power, he literally can oneshot everything until Vegeta Baby, and doesn't just do that because, in true Gokuh fashion, he holds up so he can have some fun.

I cant believe you forgot about the biggest mistake that GT made, in my opinion. Am i the only one who thinks the fights in GT were really damn boring. I am watching Z almost weekly because there are so many great fights i want to watch over and over again, but in GT? There is not one fight were i am thinking to myself, this fight was really well done. Because the mistake they did in pretty much every fight in GT was, they overused energie blasts way too much and underused normal fist to fist fighting. Like, seriously....i can remember fights were goku litteraly used his kamehameha like 10 times in a few minutes. Its a complete joke. The kamehameha in GT is nothing special, they used it like its a random energie blast, but in Z it was always a special and rare moment when the kamehameha was used, but they totally fucked that up in GT. Its like they had no idea how to choreograph fights. Thats in my opinion the most disapointing thing in GT. If GT would have had the same quality when it comes to fights, then GT wouldnt be hated so much or maybe not even hated at all.

Mst3r well, fights that aren't interesting or done well would normally feel dragged out so it can have to do with your point. Also, having more characters involved in fights does serve to make them more interesting and esp. less repetitive. Your main point about fights being boring was the overuse of ki blasts, though the series that really brought that into play was DBZ, but it got worse in GT. Once DBZ started pretty much anyone who knew how to utilize ki well used ki blasts and as the series progressed they were used more, however in Dragon Ball any ki blast was special and almost always had a name, at least pretty much until the King Piccolo arc. I do get that the Kamehameha was always considered a special attack, esp. when Goku used it and he usually held it in reserve until bigger moments. I never really saw the use of ki blasts to be a problem in GT, though I have always preferred hand-to-hand combat and always found it more interesting. I did find the fights boring and repetitive, as well, just for other reasons other than an overuse of ki blasts.

You didnt see the overuse of energie blasts as a problem? Well, i suggest you rewatch some of the fights, because i just did. I have watched goku vs super 17, omega shenron and baby. Those fights were pathetic to watch. It was like 80% energie blasts, so boring. The gogeta vs omega sheron fight was basically 100% energie blasts. Compare this to fights like vegito vs buu. I know this fight was much longer but still. Or the awesome piccolo vs 17 fight compared to goku vs super 17. Even though the goku fight was much longer, the piccolo fight was 10x more entertaining to watch.

I will preface this by agreeing that yes, Goku being turned into a child was incredibly stupid, and my least favorite part of GT, and that I too really wanted to see Gotenks, and was disappointed that he. . . they? Never made an appearance. Now then, on with my counter argument. You seem unhappy that GT is both not enough like Z and too much like Z. We have Baby, who's every other Z villain, and that's somehow a bad thing? You hate that he wasn't different, despite the villains you love being that anyways? That makes a whole lot of sense man. Moving on, the secondary characters getting the shaft is par for the course in Dragonball. The focus is almost always entirely on Goku. Hell, in Z it goes so far as to have other character screen time almost exclusively devoted to talking about Goku, and trying to figure out a way to hold off the latest threat until Goku can arrive. On the point about holding off the transformations, well, that's just something Goku does. The only way he can enjoy a battle is if he's as close to evenly matched as possible, and being a Super Saiyan would make things too easy. I personally enjoyed the Shadow Dragon Arc the most out of them, and found it to be a very fun and interesting story. Piccolo wasn't prominent in GT, but honestly, he'd already become very little of a factor starting in the Buu Saga, what with him being completely outmatched by every opponent they faced. Simply put, he wasn't strong enough to matter anymore, just like what happened to Yamcha and Tien in the Saiyan Saga. Despite his small screen time, I still found that death a powerful and emotional moment, because I remembered the series as a whole. And besides, he plays a very important role in the Super 17 arc!

I can see some points you make. But to me, honestly almost none of them bothered me AT ALL. I see GT is something very different. I don't see it with the same expectation eyes as DBZ. To me all charachter development had already occured in Z. And he almost became godlike. Thats why IMO they went on a different road in GT. And I enjoyed it in a different way. because imo he was already here! Almost as strong as anyone could be... why did u think they turned him into a kid

Throughout the entire video, I was anticipating when you're mention how Goku was reversed back into a child. As the numbers grew closer to number one, I thought perhaps it went over your head. However, you saved the best for last and it was the most disappointing thing I witnessed in all the Dragonball series, including the non-cannon movies. In fact, it was so bad, I stopped watching it when I was a 13-year old child. Even as a child when my skepticism was relatively low, it couldn't even meet my expectations. Several years later when I decided to watch the series again, I came to the realization of how terrible the beginning and series was entirely. If I believe any thing was done right, I'll have to say the artwork is exceptionally done well.

Goten and Trunks handle SSJ so well. Gotenks was able to handle SSJ3. So Kid Goku had no reason to not handle his form.

All these mistakes are just opinions and not mistakes. The way you would do... Why Goku did not go SS, because he is Goku, he forgets, he wants to fight, it's inside him. Without having fun, would you like to watch Dragon Ball D (drama)? You want to watch some fights but you know that SS1 Goku can easily kick everybody's ass in few secs and still brag about it? Copying joke style of the same show, hmn... can you describe Toriyama's style of jokes? Cell was not such a power hungry, he wanned to fight and that power hunger comes from Vegeta, Goku and stuff. Majin Buu is also not such power hungry guy, he is a kid. Baby tried to recreate his planet. Pan is like any other fighter from Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball. Yamcha became useless, Tien was not big of a use and also he almost had no screen time in Buu saga.` Remember one thing, Goku, Trunks and Pan went to space, no other characters, so why concentrate on Gohan or Vegeta(Baby saga gave Vegeta) when they are not on the main path. going from Dragon Ball Z. Characters development was not so strong side of the show. Especialy from Cell-Buu saga. Turning Goku into a kid and making him to go on the adventure for the search of Dragon Balls was a reminder of Dragon Ball. Not Z but Dragon Ball. Space in GT was added because it was introduced in Z series but GT tries to stay with the very roots. Look what beginning of Dragon Ball Super was(also 2 new movies) made into. Goku. The main problem I see is that you don't like that Toriyama was not heavily involved in the GT.

+Oi Renka On your first point, I don't think that's true, we see all through Z and the original dragonball that if a character is so beneath Goku he will one shot them in a curbstomp as soon and efficiently as possible, he only likes to fight people on his level. Look at all the world tournament characters he one hit ko's. He knocks chichi out with one punch once the gag discussion is over, He takes out Nappa and Racoome swiftly also, after that point Goku never really confronts anyone far beneath his strength unless it's training or he's handicapped in some way, Like Android 19. +Dork Flum Goku only stomped nappa and recome like that because of rage. in all of his fights he never goes all out unless absolutely needed. Shown in his fight with cell and many others. the only reason people hate gt is because it's not dbz2 when that's not what the show was going for. it borrowed elements from previous shows to make fans feel at home but it is not the same and shouldn't be considered so. it's like comparing full Metal alchemist and fmab.it is just something easily done. all his gripes were about not following through the same formula as z. but gt isn't supposed to be like that. gt showcases the fact that no matter how old or young he gets Goku never changes. that through it all he's still a kid on the inside whole everyone else has grown up and moved on since majin buu

+thegausefactor U r not answering the question though. The question was about why Goku didn't use ssj1, instead of just fighting in his base mode. In Cell, he already went to his highest form. In GT, he just not doing it for no reason. We already know he can do it, why try to hide it and make his victory a hard deserved victory, while it's obviously not.

I always thought goku staying in base form in GT was to show that goku had gotten way stronger, and that the enemies who would have at one time forced the spirit bomb now could barely handle his kaioken attack. Which i thought was kind of refreshing to see goku fight and who was worthy of the challange!

I think it’s because Goku, was weaker. He couldn’t instant transmission. So I’m assuming SSJ took a toll on his body. So he prolly couldn’t use it as long. But I agree he definitely was stronger

Great countdown! Except for #1 Like it or not, that's core to the plot overall, and simply saying that it should be another way isn't a reasonable mistake fix, but undermines the plot. Literally everything else you mentioned though is great and would enhance GT, making what's there a lot better. And I actually like the idea of Goku becoming a kid, it was just executed poorly. Also, I really don't know why you keep saying this was "regressive" for Goku (you mentioned this in your GT review too). He kept his memories and most of his power. So the past isn't erased just because he turned young. I see what you mean when you say this undid Toriyama's transformation of Goku, but I still think that's what GT's all about. They just shouldn't have sacrificed all the other characters while focusing mainly on him.

+Kenshin0011 Well, Kid Goku acted more like a kid and was treated from others as a kid. You can see that if you compare the relation of Goku and Pan in DBZ and DBGT: in Z he was her grandpa and her great idol and in GT he was some kid her age she was mocking permanently.

+Kenshin0011 The plot was made to continue the legacy of goku as a kid, so why make a new transformation that makes him adult again... Plus how did he become less mature with the transformation. And for something so exagerating of a change, look at how it happened. But the core of all these mistakes, is the choice for goku becoming a kid again, but not losing power, just personality. Which makes no sense since if he were to REGRESS to become a kid, he would lose all his memory and power, just logic. I think they could have made this aspect of the story temporary, or at least have a build up. This is just like piccolo's death, it had no build up, and it happened just because.

Just look the difference between goku at a kid in the first series to when he grew up when he got to the tournament with piccolo, he got more mature. This evolution is, like he said, a choice of the series, regressing it goes against everything dragon ball has about.

Yeah I mean Dragon Ball (regular kai z and super) is the best series ever, but GT wasn't even written by Toriyama and yeah they shouldn't have killed Piccolo and sent him to hell wtf? But i must say, the last couple Arcs were pretty good actually, with super saiyan 4 and what not. Lets just say GT is a different timeline. lol.
