Now I know Goku wasnt the best dad and wasn’t around a lot but the 1st time he left them He sacrificed himself against raditz, then he fought frieza and got sent to Yardrat and was most likely learning the Instant transmission move and didnt want to go back yet and then he sacrificed himself against Cell and knew villains looked for him and thought the earth would be safer if he remained dead. All those other times he was at home and he really did show true love for his family so I dont think he was that bad.

This is what I've been saying for years. But apparently, Goku's a bad father because he left the tournament to train Uub. Never mind the fact that as dumb as Goku is, he has Instant Transmission. He can visit his family while training Uub at any time. AND in the beginning of the Saiyan Saga, he took the time to visit his old friends. And this was before he learned Instant Transmission, mind you. Also, in the Cell Saga, he took the time to go out shopping with Gohan and Chi-Chi. Or how about that moment in his fight against Frieza where he remembered Chi-Chi and was worried about her safety? Seriously, look at his personality. And how he reacted to Krillin's death. And how he worried about Gohan being kidnapped by Raditz. All this evidence points to Goku being (at the very least) a well-meaning father. So to all the fans out there saying that Goku's a bad father unironically. Fuck you. And even with that said, he's already a better parent than Chi-Chi anyway. Though, admittedly, Piccolo is somewhat of a better father (figure) than Goku. Though I don't really think it's Goku's fault. Life just likes being a dick to him and his family.

I think the problem is our culture has gotten used to the idea of a helicopter parent, where, at the first sign of trouble they swoop in and save their kid. When I first watched through DBZ I was actually quite moved by Goku's faith in his son and his willingness to step aside and allow Gohan to deal with the challenges. He knows Gohan can do it, but Gohan has to believe he can do it, and the only person who can figure that out is his son. Gohan has to fail before he succeeds. I never really understood why everyone just assumes Piccolo's diagnosis of Gohan is the correct one. Did anyone watch Gohan in the time chamber with Goku? It was Gohan who insisted that Goku be harsher, that he attack Gohan with everything he had to push him to the next level. "If I die, well, then that means we'll know I wasn't meant to be a Super Saiyan. It's what I want Dad. DO IT!" No one forced Gohan to do any of it, except maybe Piccolo at the beginning, which Gohan is very grateful for. I think Gohan has always been scared of his hidden power and how animalistic he becomes when he channels it, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like training or fighting. It's why he always begged ChiChi to let him go along with his father, especially at the beginning of DBZ. Is Goku absent minded? Of course. Has he always made the best decisions? No. He's not a perfect father, but I would say he is a good one.

I have seen both "Bad Father" videos, and am putting my comments on them both here. I love how all these arguments are based on Human (earthing) standards of fatherhood. Goku may have been raised on earth, but, like Vegita, he is 100% Saiyan. As such, one should not compare their responses to situations without taking into consideration their natural Saiyan instincts. For starters, the addiction to training and fighting is built into Saiyan DNA. Violent behavior is so rooted into their very being that their entire genetic makeup is designed for that kind of activity. Take for example the excessive food consumption -- a natural and reasonable side effect of bodies which are designed to output (literally) super human levels of energy. Taking into account all the horrible ways this trait could be channeled, (e.g. Raditz, Nappa, Broly, Saiyan Saga Vegita) I'd say Goku and Vegita both found a safe, constructive outlet for it. It should also be noted that Vegita, being raised by bloodthirsty sociopaths, had to unlearn behaviors that had been ingrained into him throughout his childhood -- something Goku did not have to struggle with at all thanks to a bump to his head. Secondly, Saiyan's are not wired to have close family ties. In point of fact, there was almost no such thing as a "family" of Saiyans, as parents would have little to no contact with their children after a certain point, and rarely spent extended time with spouses unless they worked in the same tier. Goku and Vegita's family bonding is almost completely due to their contact with human (earth) society. Thus, they have admirably and tirelessly worked to cull their natural urges for the betterment of their wives and children. (As Goku had many, many years of experience doing this before Vegita even attempted it, it is no wonder Goku is better at it). Lastly, Saiyans are creatures of honor and pride. They have pride in themselves and pride in the things they cherish. For a Saiyan to say that they are proud of something is the highest form of respect and affection they are naturally designed to give. Consider these things as you evaluate the Saiyan father's "acts of fatherhood".

What deadbeat father sacrifice his life just to protect their son and family? And it's funny how Piccolo and Vegeta are looked at as being better fathers but they were just as bad as Goku, if not worse. Goku was the one who believed in his son, gave him confidence and actually did spend time with him outside of fighting. I can't say the same for Vegeta and Piccolo. I've stated this time after time that Goku isn't a perfect father because he does have flaws but he is no way a terrible father. I feel that this video was fair and showed the good and the bad. Vegeta didn't care for his son for 8 years and only got to bond with his son's future self through passive-aggressive means. He only really realized he cared about him after he was KILLED. Goku, meanwhile, had his FIRST instinct when Raditz stole his son was to hunt him down. Even entrusting the aid of his then arch rival (AND ENEMY) to save his son because he was desperate. Not to mention the first few minutes of DRagonball Z was Goku saving his son when he was wandering off. Not to mention that whenever he was home, he wanted to spend time with his son not just training, but also going for camping trips or fishing. Stuff like that. He never saw the point of school work since he NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL.
@MoarRobots8 жыл бұрын
Goku Is like the dad who will always work to provide for the family and does care for them, but lack the emotional or thoughtful connections. Here me out, It isn't goku's entirely part, it is his sayian gene. Sayians would always not give to shit about thier kids. But because goku and vegeta spend time in earth they learn to be better fathers but that sayian parts always bugging them. The only time when they became the perfect fathers are currently in Super after the buu saga. let's take a look back, into goku's understanding of gohan. Gohan is a book worm who is a pacifist for the most of time and doesn't like hurting people. Now let's see Chi Chi's standpoint, because she is a mother who have always been there for gohan has seen who gohan is and helps gohan go towards the path, gohan wants. But because Goku is always training and gohan doesn't like training, it is difficult for gohan to relate to goku. Yeah, they spend time m, but is gohan the son a sayian would want? Let's check out Cell saga, which really shows who gohan really is (you may be surprise ). Goku instantly saw how powerful gohan can be from the many occasions goku have seen gohan overcome. With this mentality, goku pressure gohan into fighting and literally saying that if he doesn't fight everyone will die. if you were told this and you didn't like fighting, you would fight. You can say that gohan was the only one to save the planet, but did gohan wanted that? I can understand the viewpoint that goku helped gohan become strong to save what gohan loves. However, goku stubbornness got to the best of him, when gohan was literally getting killed and goku doesn't do anything, and even piccolo telling goku who his son is. I'm not saying goku was a bad father, but he was at first but he eventually became a good father
@sonnywoods68468 жыл бұрын
+Alejandro Ramirez Actually the reason why Gohan like to study and is a pacifist is because Chi Chi Brainwashed him into thinking that fighting was wrong and that studying was the only thing that mattered. She refused to allow Goku to interfere with how Gohan was raised. When ever Goku tried to train Gohan she would stop him and make him study. Remember Chi Chi was the one that said studying and getting into a good school was more important than saving the World. The earth could blow up for all she cared as long as Gohan got into a good school. If Chi CHi allowed Goku to raise Gohan the way he wanted he would be into fighting. The reason Gohan is the way he is, is because of Chi Chi not his personality. Gohan likes training he always trained with his dad, he just doesn't like fighting. the only time Goku wasn't around Gohan was when he was dead. When he was alive gohan was always with him.

Goku is 100% a good father. He isn't the perfect father that people here wants him to be but he has proven his worth of being a good father. Think about real life for example. You can grow up with both your mother and your father but half the time (Remember I'm talking about reality here) the father will not give a crap about their child. Not saying all fathers are like that but like...I'll say like 50/50. While some fathers (like Goku) will care deeply about their child even if they aren't near. Some fathers will either get severely depressed,become a alcoholic or drug addict. Some even go to the length of committing suicide for not being able to get near their children because of divorce or the death of the child. Just like Goku some fathers show their love in odd ways and express it differently. Goku shows his love even though he isn't around much while Vegeta doesn't exactly show his affections for his children but is there all the time. Not saying he is a bad father by the way. I mean like seriously can you really blame the guy for not wanting to be brought back to life? More chaos appears when he is around then when he is dead. He doesn't want his kids or his love ones to get hurt or killed by his enemies. That is why he isn't always around. (But the end of DBZ was very odd). Goku can't be like the other perfect anime dads you see. The LSD make Popo see and think clearly yet the squares does make the circles.

You know I feel like there is a simple answer for both Vegeta and Goku's parenting style, thinking about blackenfist's explinantion that his job is to protect the earth and thinking about the lifestyle that vegeta grew up in is that they are both MILITARY fathers and act just like military fathers would, Goku being the one more open minded and thinking not just about his family but his job as the protector of the earth, and vegeta being the more strict more by the book style, I myself have a family that has very mixed styles of thinking in terms of raising me and I can see how vegeta is and how goku is I believe that this is just the easiest way to answer if they are a "bad father" you know my father was in the military and he was away for 1 whole year from my life and not just any year it was the year that I first turned into a teenager at 13 so my dad essentially missed an entire milestone of my life. Now granted you could argue that he HAD to go because it was his job and they ordered him too, and that he could have just quit to stay here with me, but my father much like Goku took a calculative objective thought process on the matter in that not only did he need the money and it was his job but also by protecting us in the war he was also protecting me. and as far as Vegeta goes he actually grew up with his father so as a child he had actual father experience especially since he respected his father so he would emulate his father's style of teaching as it obviously worked out fine for him even recognizing he had to adapt that style a little differently for earthlings but still using that style his father taught him non the less, where as goku never had a proper father figure since his parents were essentially just free spirited hermits so goku would act more on instinct and how he feels the situation to be then logic which is pretty much how goku's character is anyway at heart where as vegeta tends look at situations from a rational point of view. So that's my personal thoughts on why goku is not a bad father simply for not being there and a easy reason as to why they think in the ways they do.

blackenfist I think one of the main problem with your analysis of Goku as a father is that you equate each act of good fatherhood with each act of bad fatherhood, the problem with that system is that it assumes that the acts of fatherhood themselves are equal which is definitely not the case. I do understand why you did it as it does simplify the argument but unfortunately it removes the accuracy. here's the problem with your argument, if a father takes his kid to the park, helps him with his homework and teaches him how to ride a bike, in your system that would be 3 good father points, now if he let his son snort crack cocaine under your system that would be 1 bad father point. now if we stop here under your system this father would be a good father, however in reality I think its safe to say that everyone would call this father a bad father. This argument could be applied to how both you and Qaaman conducted for respective video's and I think if it was you would probably come out with different conclusions. merkage3000 id like to hear ur reasoning, i dont have much of an opinion on this just looking around for some debates
@merkage30009 жыл бұрын
***** Your argument is ridiculous, first of all if I don't have the right to judge if is he a bad father or not then you don't have the right to judge if he is a good father, therefore this debate is pointless if you take that stance. Secondly being a good father isn't just about how much you love your kids and how much they love you, its more than that, it is about your judgement as a parent and thinking about what is best for your child. On multiple occasions Goku has demonstrated poor parental judgement which has put his children in harms way multiple times for example allowing his son to go to the planet namek when he was 5 YEARS OLD literally right after recovering from the events in the sayian saga (and there are other examples as well). Thirdly I find it ridiculous that you can imply that he was a good father in one sentence and then say "he simply wasn't there". if being an absent parent makes you a good father then parenting is a lot easier than I thought.

Goku dying isn't a great reason considering the Dragonballs. The first time he dies i give him the benefit of the doubt. The second time he chooses to stay dead. He's not old or anything he just says, "Nope. I choose to be dead for no real good reason." Him training is a horrible reason. Can he not train at home? Or at Kami's? He has the power of Instant Transmission you know. Can't he stay home and then just transmit where he wants to train and then transmit back? Hell after Namek he just flat out refuses to come back despite the fact he hasn't spent any time with his son and wife in about 2 or 3 years. Yes Goku saves Gohan quite a few times but that doesn't mean anything. He saves everyone multiple times. Just saving him doesn't make him a good father it just means he doesn't want his son to die. He leaves his family on multiple occasions for years, just because. He basically knows he isn't ready for a family and finds any way he can to not be around. Team 4 Star makes fun of it in the Abridged series but it also points out just how bad it is. Yes he sacrificed himself for his son but both times you can argue he did it more for Earth than for his son. If Goku didn't sacrifice himself both Radditz and Cell were going to destroy the planet.

Crimsontears83 I agree 100% He will abandon his family to train at the drop of a dime. Lets not forget after he takes the elder kai's life force and defeats buu via Vegeta, He spends a little time with Chichi, Gohan, and the son he never met, Goten, he then abandons them to train/live with Uub for an undetermined amount of time.

Hmmm. I would say for Saiyans, both Goku and Vegeta are really good parents. We have to remember that Goku (and especially Vegeta) come from an alien race. Even Earth raised Goku possesses some of the Saiyan pride and love of combat that his race is famed for. He goes off to train (And so does Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks) when he gets the chance, because its just how he IS. Vegeta got better over the years, but even he still retains several of the same traits. You could argue that 'well he's never around!' except the majority of the time when he's not around, he's DEAD. Training doesn't take up all of his time; even his longer training missions take, maximum a year or two. Admittedly, the end of DBZ (Anime) is really shit. Like I don't feel like it's in character for Goku to do that. Besides all of that, he does care for his sons and shows it.

I have to disagree with you on the point where Goku is a bad father just because he failed to save his sons when Kid Buu destroyed the earth. Goku actually did attempt to save his sons once Kid Buu threw the energy ball. But he suddenly caught eye of Dende and Hercule, so he had to save them too (most importantly Dende since they need him for the Dragonballs). I honestly do believe that once Goku saved Dende and Hercule he was planning to go straight for his sons. But the problem was that Kid Buu's energy ball was expanding at such a fast rate that he couldn't get around it. So he tried to use Instant Transmission to get to them instead, but he could not concentrate. Nonetheless, wouldn't Goku also count as being a bad person if even though he saw Dende and Hercule, he just ignored them and left them to die?

Debunkmisconceptions I'm not forgiving Vegeta. I'm only counting the times when he was a father, Bulma had Trunks when Vegeta was training and when he came back he was immediately thrown into fights with androids so he had no time to be a father. Lets count the times Goku was an asshole father shall we? He was more angry at Frieza for killing Krillin than with the Ginyu force when they crippled his son. The first thing he does when he gets back from planet Namek is fight and train. He forces his son to fight Cell even though he is not a fighter (Even Piccolo pointed this out and it just goes to show how much he doesn't know his son) He chooses to leave his son and family just so that he can fight people in heaven and uses the excuse that "Trouble only shows when he's there" even though most of the dangers would happen regardless. Instead of getting the sensu beans for his sons future wife he stays and eats at korrins tower for like an hour and *then* returns to the tournament. and earlier in Dragonball Super he says that his sons daughter may not be of pure heart. and yes Vegeta has his asshole moments but he has later proven to be a good father while Goku continues to be an asshole.
@wwetnaful9 жыл бұрын
+Tharja Is Best Waifu I don't watch Dragon Ball Super.....and I could honestly couldn't care less about it currently but when people try to justify Goku being worse dad than Vegeta is laughable throughout the series. The one time Vegeta showed a shred of care for Trunks and his family was before blowing him self up against Buu. He didn't care when the Androids and Cell existed (even manga wise Vegeta got pissed at Cell when he almost killed Trunks was more for pride reasons that his son's demise) and he didn't care when he was killing people in the World Tournament when he became Majin. At least Goku showed some level of love and care when he was with Gohan before the Saiyan attacks and in training for Cell. And when he returned for the dead the first person he wanted to see was Goten just to say he "was proud of him." Vegeta couldn't even do that........and now you want to say because Vegeta is better because of a new series with a couple of episodes 10 years AFTER the debate had started............GTFO with that garbage

When I first watched Dragon Ball Z I thought Golu was a create Dad, for the most part. As everyone is good and bad at times. The only thing I thought he did wrong was abandoning his family for Uub. But he had decent reasons for it and I never held it against him. But what does make me mad is how he is always late for the fight, but that's beside the point. I'm saddened that some people are saying that Goku is a bad father because he died, my father died when I was at the age of 4, and that never made me think less of him, so as someone who can relate to Gohan, it doesn't make any sense for death to determine if you have a good parent

My main issue here is that you can't just have more good points than bad and say that makes you a good father. Let's say I take my kid out to the park every week for a year, thats 52 good things. Then lets say I beat my kid every month. That's only 12. I have over 4x more good than bad things, I must be an awesome father. Pretty much all of goku's good points are about him saving gohan's life as well, and most of those are to also save the world or doesn't take any effort from him whatsoever (he gave him a bean.. such a challenge). Pretty much any hero in that same exact situation, whether they knew gohan or not would have done exactly the same thing. That's why people say he's a bad father. He does what ANYONE with even the tiniest sliver of a conscious would do. If we could, I'm pretty sure almost anyone would sacrifice him/herself to save 7 billion people. Those don't count as good parenting. Those count as being not a horrible human being. While a lot of goku's absences are beyond his control, a good number are not. He chooses to fly around the universe after killing frieza instead of coming back home. He chooses not to be revived after he died from cell. He chooses to leave them all to train uub. He doesn't care about spending time with his son. He just wants his son to not die, just like any other non-homicidal person.
@supoa94899 жыл бұрын
userasdf Whether you like or not he has to train to protect the earth including his family without Goku doing this everyone would be fucked period. Just being there doesn't make you a good father
@userasdf9 жыл бұрын
Supo A By that logic Superman is a better father than anyone else on earth. That would even mean the hulk is a better father than any non-powered person. The wife-beater antman would also qualify as a better father and husband than any non-powered person for the same reason. When your logic makes a wife beater one of the best husbands in the world then your logic is faulty. As I said, not wanting your kid to die is not enough to make you a good father. An additional point is that there's no reason Goku CAN'T train WITH his son. In fact the 1 time they actually did train together, gohan became the strongest fighter on the planet. Gohan would have been one of the best people to train with to protect the world and make himself stronger yet he didn't. We've seen that gohan is stronger than basically every incarnation of buu (who hasn't absorbed a z fighter) yet goku decides to train uub instead who would obviously be weaker. He is putting the earth and his son at bigger risk by NOT spending time with him. Face it, he's a pretty bad father.
@supoa94899 жыл бұрын
userasdf Nope you don't get it you can't comparing the way sayains family dynamics and their universe to ours lives is just stupid plus it's very different. Gohan is not a fighter at heart, plain and simple, only trained last minute if the world was in danger and was forced to. Contrary to believe or not Gohan liked being a scholar, once Goku died during cell saga, Bulma realised the important of training so at that point it's Gohan's fault for not hat training in those 7 years. Plus due to his human side they don't crave to become stronger like full blooded Saiyains, Gohan is getting older, Goku can't force him to train if he doesn't want to, plus Gohan started his own live with his family why do you think he took on Uub he needed someone else to take the mantle from him since the rest didn't want to he had no choice they rather rely on him except Vegeta but he is not strong enough most of the time. Plus Uub had alot of potential and was reincarnation of Kid Buu is was GT that butchered him. Goku actually made the right choice if Gohan was left to be the saviour, everybody would be killed he just doesn't care for training he loves the simple human life, same goes Gohan and trunks as well. No one is perfect but to say Goku is a bad dad is just plain wrong .
@userasdf9 жыл бұрын
Supo A You can't just say "that's how saiyans do it" and say that's ok. In middle eastern culture they used to sell their daughters into slavery. Does that mean that's ok? And Goku was RAISED as a human. He has no saiyan culture. Sure he has the genetics to want to fight and stuff but culture wise he's all human. And even from the vegeta video, we see more fatherly interactions from vegeta than from goku and vegeta WAS raised as a saiyan. The only indication we had that gohan liked being a scholar was because chi chi forced it on him. You can say goku forced training on him as well of course but arguing he preferred being a scholar is a stretch. The first "adult" choice we see from Goku is to be a fricken super hero during the buu saga. I have no idea what bulma has to do with this. Chi chi forced gohan to study his entire childhood. Goku could have done that too if he wasn't so scared of chi chi. And Uub never wanted to fight either. He only fought to get money for his village. And even then he wouldn't fight goku until goku started insulting him and his people. Uub is even less of a natural fighter than gohan. And as I said, which you seem to have ignored, We already know gohan has more potential than uub since uub is just buu who is way weaker than gohan. And from battle of the god's, we know that vegeta is now the strongest one second to goku and in the new movie with frieza (haven't seen it yet) but it sounds like vegeta gets the saiyan god boost too. Vegeta is totally set to be the new guardian of earth if he has to.
@supoa94899 жыл бұрын
userasdf Your not making any sense after cell saga Chi Chi allowed Gohan to train but most likely didn't want to you saying that he was forced to study all tie which false, Chi Chi trained Goten. Fillers and the anime like to over exaggerate Chi Chi making Gohan study all the time Gohan was never a fighter at heart he had no choice but to train and defend the earth, the fact he has his own freedom and still doesn't train is evidence of that he likes the simple life. Full sayains have the obsession of getting stronger which s why Vegeta even though was weaker than Gohan had better battle sense. Gohan has slipped so much he's forgot the basics he's not bothered cause he know Goku and Vegeta will pick the slack. You can force someone to do something for awhile but what happens when your not there they stop or they can't motivate themselves. I agree Vegeta is pretty much even to Goku he would good as guardian of the earth

When it comes to being a bad father I think the one thing that rubs me the wrong way is how Goku Misjudges what his son's and mentally and emotionally capable of. As you stated in the video he shouldn't have just assumed gohan had what it took to bring out his rage against Cell on his own, but he makes this mistake again with Goten. He tells Goten his older brother (the guy who's been the closest thing to a father he's had) is dead and yells at him to toughen up and kill Buu. When Gotanks finally does face Buu it's revealed he doesn't have the kind of maturity to take on such a task, and then Goku admits he could have probably been a good enough match against the fat buu when he faced him as SSJ 3 but he wanted to give the boys a turn at being heros. Also he doesn't hug Gohan good bye when he thinks they won't see each other again. I don't know why but that scene just bugged me. Gohan hugged him and he didn't hug back? WTF?

Also, all this mumbo jumbo about being a good father and being a bad father is pointless to talk about. Goku is a Saiyan, not a Human. Care for your young is a trait that we exhibit as humans. Plenty of male animals in the wild not only abandon their children, but eat them as well so they don't grow to be competition during mating season. Do we call these animals bad Dads? No, we understand that it's in their nature to act that way. Maybe we should understand the nature of Saiyans better.

So him not being around for his child is for completely selfish reasons. He deciding to stay dead after the Cell Games for reasons Like: Frieza, The Androids and Cell was all the things he could had provided if he care about the protection of Earth and his family. Just because he care for his child doesn't make him a good dad. Even with the small amount of time he spended with Gohan he never took the time to get to know him, he just assume base on what he's all about.

goku saved his son various times. however, being a father isnt just about jumping in during the 'important' moments. Its the everyday things. for fucks sake, look what happens in the end of dbz. goku runs off to train uub. just because. not like he has two sons and a wife at home right,....

First off, Goku saves Gohan a lot, but it's also often due to his negligence that they wind up in such a bad spot in the first place. For example, why did Nappa almost kill Gohan twice? Goku was napping on the back of a truck. Or filling his stomach with Prin. Snake. Secondly during the Cell Games, Goku gets into this nasty "Save the world yourself" habit. Letting Gohan fight he also overlooked one thing: He could've beaten Cell, in fact everyone knew he could've probably beaten Cell. So to Gohan, it's safe to say without 16's interference and Cell's motivation to egg him on, he would've never been able to unlock his hidden power because there was no need, it was just his dad letting him get his ass beaten. Third, you completely left out his actions with Goten, which are all completely absurd and raise the bad parent count to at least a tie. Goku might as hell have not been around for Goten's life at all,

Most of your situations were filler to begin with. _"For example, why did Nappa almost kill Gohan twice? Goku was napping on the back of a truck. Or filling his stomach with Prin. Snake."_ You talk about Nappa, but with Raditz just before, Goku goes immediately to save Gohan, and gives his life up in the process. _" Goku gets into this nasty "Save the world yourself" habit. Letting Gohan fight he also overlooked one thing: He could've beaten Cell, in fact everyone knew he could've probably beaten Cell. So to Gohan, it's safe to say without 16's interference and Cell's motivation to egg him on, he would've never been able to unlock his hidden power because there was no need, it was just his dad letting him get his ass beaten."_ Goku was never able to defeat Perfect Cell. Everyone, even Roshi, knew this as fact. Bulma: _“Wha-aat, that was so close! He was just a step away!”_ Kame-sennin: *_“…No he wasn’t…It’s true that it looks like they’re having a good match, but…unlike Goku, Cell still has room for composure left…[ ] ...Goku can’t win…What’s more, to me it looks as if he knows that but is still fighting…I don’t know what he’s thinking…”_* Gohan was the only one capable of taking down Cell. Goku had to teach Gohan to stand up for himself and to protect others instead of hiding behind Goku or Piccolo. That was the very reason Gohan wanted to become a Super Saiyan in the first place. _"Third, you completely left out his actions with Goten, which are all completely absurd and raise the bad parent count to at least a tie. Goku might as hell have not been around for Goten's life at all,"_ Goku was dead for the first 7 years of Goten's life. What exactly could he do? In that one day Goku was on Earth, he managed to teach Goten fusion, a powerful technique that was initially capable of beating Buu and protect the world by themselves. Then when Buu was defeated, Goku spends the next 10 years with Goten, when he was becoming a late teenager.

Vegeto30294 To be fair Goku didn't really save Gohan against Buu. Gohan gets absorbed instead of being killed. He is later killed when Kid Buu blows up the planet. That being said Goku still saves Gohan more than Piccolo.

itachi93674 Goku came to Earth with the intention of saving Gohan, then goes inside Buu's body to save those Buu absorbed. _Then_ Kid Buu wipes out the planet, and Goku couldn't really prevent that.

Dude all of these arguments about how Goku is a bad father like holy shit
@roryscott4629 жыл бұрын
My views aren't necessarily that Goku is a bad father, but that he is a bad family man all around. An important character flaw with Goku to remember from the get-go is that he has an insatiable hero complex. It can be said that Goku is addicted to saving the day. It can also be argued that since Goku is the only one who can save the day that he doesn't really have a choice but knowing Goku's character, he loves it. While his repeated sacrifices are noble and beneficial to the world, he would have made them regardless of whether or not his family was at stake. For this reason, I cannot give Goku credit for being a good father here as his Parenthood status did not affect his decision. In fact, I would argue that his family status never affects his decisions. He never gives any consideration to how his decisions will affect his family. That is a bad thing. It's easy to sacrifice yourself for the people you love, it's much harder to stay alive for them. Another thing to remember is that the reasons that Goku gives his family and friends for leaving are not always his actual reasons. They are usually nothing more than justifications. When he sacrificed himself to stop Cell, his decision to stay in the Otherworld was not actually to avoid attracting trouble. If you ask me, it's much more likely that Goku just wanted to train with the Kais uninterupted. While it is possible that Goku attracts trouble, that is incredibly superstitious belief to operate under when deciding rather or not you are going to be in your family's life. And if Goku really did believe that, why did he risk coming back to Earth for the World Tournament? Sacrifices aside, even when Goku is alive he still put more stock into being a better fighter than being present in his family's life. On his return trip from the Namek home planet, he took an extra year so that he could visit other planets and learn new fighting techniques. Once again, he put becoming a better fighter in front of his family. And if you consider his decision to go and train with Uub a bad move as a family man, that shutters in comparison to him sailing off in the sunset with Shenron at the end of GT.
@Sextus709 жыл бұрын
Exactly, Goku is not by any means a bad person, he really cares for his friends and family, but is selfish and tends to makes his decisions thinking more in his own interests in martial arts and his position as "protector of the earth" without caring too much about how they would emotionally affect his loved ones. Even Vegeta shows more sense of fatherhood and parenting finding time to share with his family and attend it in other ways more than just "saving their lifes". That makes Goku a bad family fan IMO even when he is a kind and good natured person who is always willing to protect the innocent and the people he loves.

Its not how many bad points he has that make him a bad father but the weight of those bad points.A good example is when gohan is being struggled by cell,he needed piccolo to tell him that gohan is not a fighter,piccolo also told him that gohan could not bring out his power because of what he is going through on his head,so goku made his son suffer due to him not understanding/knowing gohan's personality and on top of that he would propably never realised that himself and only did because piccolo told him so,that one action weights like 3 bad points.Also we got to keep in mind that goku is more of a hero than a father,even if gohan was not there he would still have done the same heroic actions he did(like sacrificing himself twice)while piccolo sacrificed himself for gohan alone,not the earth as a whole.

Or you can look at it another way. He was the only one who understood Gohan well enough (even better than Piccolo who spent much more time with him) that he is able to help him meet his destiny and truly reach adulthood. That's what it means to be a father. Being protective is a mother's job.

Chi-Chi knew full well that Goku wasn't a stay-at-home dad before they even got married. He spent the majority of his life with Gohan. The only time he _wasn't_ with Gohan is when he was dead, or training to protect the Earth (including Gohan)

Vegeto30294 In some of the dragon ball z movies a lot of the others would complain about how Goku would disappear years and didn't say a word to anybody. Training is one thing but he could at least come home every once in a while. Chi-Chi would always complain about how Goku was never there too, but Goku never understood that she was serious. Goku never supported Gohan in school. Nor did he go to any of Gohan's events. He only did things with Gohan when it was something he liked, like fighting and training. There were also opportunities for him to come back to earth but he chose not to. Even when he met Uub, they almost immediately left to go training. In the latest DBZ movie, it's very clear how little Goku is ever around.

JerseyKac92 _"In some of the dragon ball z movies a lot of the others would complain about how Goku would disappear years and didn't say a word to anybody."_ Goku was missing for a total of 9 years in DBZ. 1 because he was killed against Raditz 1 because he was training after leaving Namek 7 because he was killed in the Cell Games. _"Training is one thing but he could at least come home every once in a while."_ Again, the only training he's done away from home was when he was dead or in Space. The only other time was when he left to train Uub, but even then, no one said Goku _didn't_ come home. _"Chi-Chi would always complain about how Goku was never there too, but Goku never understood that she was serious."_ Again, Chi-Chi knew full well what she was getting into before even marrying him. In Dragon Ball, Goku agreed to marry her, then disappears for 3 years after the defeat of King Piccolo. After that, he doesn't even recognize Chi-Chi or her name. But guess what, _they still got married._ _"Goku never supported Gohan in school."_ Again, Goku was dead, and he isn't very much of a school person himself, since he didn't learn to count until the age of 12. _"Nor did he go to any of Gohan's events."_ Again, *_dead._* _"There were also opportunities for him to come back to earth but he chose not to."_ The only possible time was after Planet Namek's destruction, which was because he was recovering and training in the event someone were to attack Earth. _"In the latest DBZ movie, it's very clear how little Goku is ever around."_ Who said Goku disappeared that entire time? With that logic, Vegeta was training in the gravity room as well.

Vegeto30294 I'm pretty sure that Chi Chi was not content in their relationship, judging by the comments and remarks she makes frequently. Maybe she thought that Goku would settle down with the family, like Vegeta. Even when Goku was on Earth and alive, he still didn't attend events for Gohan. Like when he gave up learning to drive and when he just left during a parent/teacher conference for Gohan. He had the opportunity to come back home after learning instant transmission. Also, after he died from the Cell fight, he refused to be wished back because he felt like he was putting the world in Danger but there were still enemies coming to earth, like Bojack and Broly(second time) and Majin Buu. Like I said, Vegeta loved to go training but at the end of the day, he deeply cared for Bulma and Trunks. After settling down whenever he got the chance, he would at least be there and was still a formidable hero. A lot of his other friends say they haven't seen his in years. 10 years after the Buu fight, bulma and the others say that if it wasn't for people visiting him no one would ever see him because he only cares about his training.

JerseyKac92 _"I'm pretty sure that Chi Chi was not content in their relationship, judging by the comments and remarks she makes frequently. Maybe she thought that Goku would settle down with the family, like Vegeta."_ Again, Chi-Chi knew full well that Goku isn't the person to settle down. He lives on travelling and fighting. Their first meeting was on a high speed Nimbus cloud. Their first date was a _sparring match_ in the anime. _"Even when Goku was on Earth and alive, he still didn't attend events for Gohan. Like when he gave up learning to drive and when he just left during a parent/teacher conference for Gohan."_ First one is filler, second is a movie, both non canon. _"He had the opportunity to come back home after learning instant transmission."_ He was training to protect the Planet (and by extension his family), and even then, you're assuming that Goku learned Instant Transmission well before the wish was made. _"Also, after he died from the Cell fight, he refused to be wished back because he felt like he was putting the world in Danger but there were still enemies coming to earth, like Bojack and Broly(second time) and Majin Buu."_ Bojack and Broly are non canon. Either way, Bojack appeared on Earth because of Cell detonating King Kai's planet, because of Goku. Broly's very existence is to destroy Goku, he just happened to be on Earth at the time. Majin Buu was revived mostly by Goku's energy, which was the very thing Goku stayed dead for. _"Like I said, Vegeta loved to go training but at the end of the day, he deeply cared for Bulma and Trunks. After settling down whenever he got the chance, he would at least be there and was still a formidable hero."_ You mean after opening fire on Bulma at the World Tournament and not caring about Trunks until just before his death at the hands of Buu? _"A lot of his other friends say they haven't seen his in years. 10 years after the Buu fight, bulma and the others say that if it wasn't for people visiting him no one would ever see him because he only cares about his training."_ He didn't visit specifically Bulma. He spend 10 years with Gohan & Goten, and 4 of those years with Pan.

Being a good or bad father is all relative. Goku and Vegeta are terrible fathers by human standards, but (from a human's perspective), they're superb fathers for Saiyans. Most Saiyans don't even care about their children and let them get sent off to other planets.
@spidermangogeta13917 жыл бұрын
This is another never-ending argument. 1. When he talks his kids listen & they never had any hatred whatsoever him,which is what a lot of parents give up an arm to say the least for that to happen. 2. Neither Gohan Goten blamed him for everything that happened to them, while many kids would ridicule their parents for every little detail. 3. Goku had to face numerous villains & most of the situations were out of control. Raditz, Vegeta/Nappa Namek,Buu(with the exception of the absorption & arguably explosion because of Vegeta not helping him) None of this he could've done anything about.

First thing he is a bad father, He placed a dragon ball on his sons head as a kid, and then let him wander off on his own without supervision, although there are plenty of murders and criminals wanting the dragonballs. 2nd, Allowing vegeta to live is another one. Vegeta, who goku can't beat at the time, Goku let him go away to possibly have revenge on goku and his son. but goku put that at risk, leaving a murderer who hates him and his son alive to exact revenge possibly later on. 3rd, Goku decides NOT to come back after cell even though impregnating chichi, leaving his unborn son and his teenage son to grow up and be fatherless 4th The ONLY reason he meets is current son is not because he wanted to, he wanted to come back to fight a tournament. And he would know he had another son, he has more than enough ways to check in whats going on with earth and his family, the only reason he could have not known is because he refused to check in on his family, to even see if they're alright which brings me to 5 5: He doesn't check on his family in death, to make sure they're alright, to see if he needed to come back to save the earth. 6: At the end of dbz buu saga he ditches his family to train uub, leaving both of his sons fatherless. _"First thing he is a bad father, He placed a dragon ball on his sons head as a kid, and then let him wander off on his own without supervision, although there are plenty of murders and criminals wanting the dragonballs."_ Letting Gohan wander off was filler. Also, no one went after Gohan for the Dragon Balls, The only one with the Dragon Radar are Bulma and her friends. Goku even managed to get 2 other Dragon Balls on his own with no known trouble. _" Allowing vegeta to live is another one. Vegeta, who goku can't beat at the time, Goku let him go away to possibly have revenge on goku and his son. but goku put that at risk, leaving a murderer who hates him and his son alive to exact revenge possibly later on."_ Goku eventually thinks he misjudged his actions, but he did the same for Piccolo before him. Regardless, he believes that he could get strong enough to handle Vegeta the next time, just like he did for Piccolo. _"Goku decides NOT to come back after cell even though impregnating chichi, leaving his unborn son and his teenage son to grow up and be fatherless"_ Because coming back would put his unborn son in danger from other villains who would come to Earth because of him. Even other people agreed with him. He's supposed to be a dead guy who's no longer part of the living world. _"At the end of dbz buu saga he ditches his family to train uub, leaving both of his sons fatherless. Abandonment._ No one said that Goku was leaving forever.

Vegeto30294 "Letting Gohan wander off was filler." It was what led up to raditz. And regardless it's canon. It happened. Deal with it "Goku eventually thinks he misjudged his actions, but he did the same for Piccolo before him. Regardless, he believes that he could get strong enough to handle Vegeta the next time, just like he did for Piccolo." Regardless, thats over confidence on his part. If someone is intended to murder your family, you don't let them go away to possibly get stronger than you because "I think I can beat him next time" "Because coming back would put his unborn son in danger from other villains who would come to Earth because of him. Even other people agreed with him. In the case someone does come to Earth anyway, the stronger Gohan would be the one to stop it." Literally this contradicted the "Goku can handle it" statement you made earlier. If Goku is so confident that he can basically handle anything he should have came back for his son. Anyways, The only person that was going to destroy earth bc of goku was freiza, raditz and vegeta. Andriods were going to be made anyways, if red ribbon army had been stopped. If they hadn't... well time would be completely different. Majin buu wasn't about goku either. After that gokus had tied up all loose ends. If you cared for your family you would check up on them to see how they were doing if you had the chance. He obviously didn't care too much for his son's safety or the fact that he now has a son who never met his father. Goku leaves for 5+ years(can't remember exactly) after just barely knowing his new son, once again to leave his wife and 2 sons.
@Vegeto302949 жыл бұрын
Adam Colquitt _"It was what led up to raditz."_ You mean a filler flashback? Gohan's first appearance was on Roshi's island, and Raditz appeared in the very first "Dragon Ball Z" chapter. _"And regardless it's canon."_ Why? because _you_ say it is? _" It happened. Deal with it"_ With that logic, I can say that Yamcha can one shot Frieza and SSJ Vegeta > SSJ3 Gotenks, because filler says so. _"Regardless, thats over confidence on his part. If someone is intended to murder your family, you don't let them go away to possibly get stronger than you because "I think I can beat him next time"_ I never said Goku was perfect, like I said, he eventually thinks that he misjudged his actions. Regardless, giving mercy is what he does, just like he did with Piccolo. _"If Goku is so confident that he can basically handle anything he should have came back for his son._ Who said Goku could handle _anything_? He clearly knows there's a limit to his power, and he can't defeat everyone. _"Anyways, The only person that was going to destroy earth bc of goku was freiza, raditz and vegeta. Andriods were going to be made anyways, if red ribbon army had been stopped._ The Androids were made specifically to take down Goku, using information _from_ Goku and his battles. _"If you cared for your family you would check up on them to see how they were doing if you had the chance."_ That would defeat the purpose of being dead if you spend the rest of eternity watching over them. Even he said himself that he's no longer a person of that mortal plane. And Goku did spend his _one day given_ to be part of an event that everyone wanted to do. _"He obviously didn't care too much for his son's safety or the fact that he now has a son who never met his father."_ His son was stronger than he was, and knew everything he needed to know from him. If someone was strong enough to take down Gohan, then Goku being there wouldn't have made a significant difference. And again, him being on Earth would just attract more danger to him and those around him, _and he's not the only person to think that._

First thing people would say Piccolo is a better father. One, Goku fucking took care of Gohan for 4 FUCKING YEARS before the start of the series and Piccolo only "took care" of Gohan for the first night of Gohan's training by giving him a fucking apple. Goku sacrifices himself to kill Raditz cause Krillin nor Master Roshi got the bright fucking idea to help. Then after the six months of living in the wild, Piccolo teaches Gohan how to fight where they actually bonded, which couldn't have been stronger than a father son relationship made from 4 fucking years. Goku trains Gohan for Cell. He sacrafices himself again for Cell so that Earth can't fucking be destroyed and he was the only one who could travel millions of miles with just two fingers to his forehead and look for energy. He stays dead so that nothing bad could ever happen. Also GT isn't even Canon, everyone knows that so bringing that up in an argument isn't a valid reason.

Goku is absolutely not a bad father, and it pisses me off when the fanbase spews this nonsense without giving it any thought. Prior to the events of the beginning of Z, Goku is with his family for the first few years of Gohan's life, presumably being a normal dad. Then, he SACRIFICES HIMSELF to save his family and friends, including his son. If that isn't good parenting idk what is. After that, it's just disaster after disaster, and Goku doesn't have time to live a normal life and raise Gohan, because he's constantly having to fight off threats and save people. Then, he sacrifices himself AGAIN to save the entire planet INCLUDING Gohan. He then comes back to life after the Buu saga and lives a normal life with his family up until the events of Super, where shit hits the fan again. Technically, he wasn't always there to be a father figure, but that's only because he was busy being protector of the Earth/his family and friends. I don't know what more he could have done. And people need to chill with this whole notion that Piccolo was somehow a better father figure. Yea, the guy who KIDNAPPED a small child and stole him from his mother to force him to train in brutal conditions is a GREAT role model.

For 1, 2, 3, 4 shouldn't count as good father points, otherwise we can consider Goku a good father to Krillin, Bulma, Yamcha, Tien, and anyone else he has saved. 6 more counts as a point towards Piccolo than it does Goku, as it was Piccolo's training and influence that led Gohan to ask Goku to go all out on him. 7 is a huge point, it pretty much proved how little Goku knows about his son. Such a thing should dock like 3 points into the bad parentage, as it shows despite the time he has had with Gohan, Goku failed to understand his son during those times. 11 is also huge, as its Goku, not attempting to avoid his son, and wife, but rather not considering their feelings on the situation. Also, it has been shown that Goku may be granted one day on earth. Of all the days he chooses to go to, its the one when the Tenkaichi Budokai is being run, as opposed to more important days, like the birth of Goten, or Gohan's or Goten's numerous birth days to choose from, nope, he goes on the day of the tournament instead, where he would have been spending more time fighting than being with family. Bottom line, Goku's a great guy, but a shitty father, just because he's nice to his sons, and saves them, like everyone else, doesn't mean he is a good father. Father's who spoil their children silly show they care, but that doesn't mean they are good parents, Goku is kinda like that. A lot of it comes from the idea that Goku himself is still just a kid at heart, and no kid can be a good parent.

I think Kakarot did an excellent job as a father by Saiyan standards. Gohan and Goten should be grateful, most Saiyan fathers don't care about their kids beyond their mere existence. Kakarot actually taught them how to fight, albeit after somebody else had already trained them a bit.

Kinda feel this was a terrible list. Goku saves lots of people. Like our of the first several "Good father" Points were just normal stuff he does for Krillin as well. I didn't feel it showed much of him being a good Parent, just a heroic person.

Well, his sons were already grown up. Gohan was 27-28 and Goten was 17. And I think he wasn't leaving them entirely and come back a couple of times. Yeah, he left the little Pan, but it's not like that she hasn't another caring grandfather, and her father was still there, too.

I agree that Goku is a good father,but when you said Goku didn't know his son isn't a fighter,I just want to help out on under standing this,when Gohan's a kid,Goku never would have known this because Gohan was never in a fight,and then Goku was dead,never seeing the fight with Vegeta before he arrives,Goku would never have known still,and during Namek,he could sense Gohan fighting Frieza,the thought that Goku isn't a fighter would never been thought of,then he's absent for a year,and during the 3 years of training,Gohan kept wanting to get stronger,and same thing during the Hyperbolic training,so Goku would never have known Gohan's not a fighter,and if I was Goku,I wouldn't even have known,so now thinking about this,I think Goku shouldn't have gotten a bad point about that making 8 to 4 because,literally,Goku would never have known this.

i can agree/disagree with u goku still shouldve realize his age as well and known his wife and how she was raising him with and without him around to begin with, so again he didnt take in account other key variables he also was around for the most part of gohans young life so she should've known he wasn't a fighter or atleast took that into account
@Zelia_Wolf10 жыл бұрын
Well,think about this,just because someone has been shielded away from danger,as Gohan has,that doesn't particularly mean they wouldn't be a fighter,parents like Chi-Chi actually exist,there are kids who aren't allowed to do anything but study most of the time,I actually went to high school with a kid like that,and unlike Gohan,this kid would fight anyone if it was called for,and he has,and another thing,when Goku did see Gohan fight,he wasn't scared at all,he was just fighting,showing no fear,Goku vs Vegeta fight,Gohan just comes right in,and tried really hard to beat Vegeta,not showing a shred of fear,same thing with Namek,when Goku was sensing the fight,Gohan did the same thing,and when Krillin died,you would expect Gohan to be scared,but all he wanted to do is stay with Goku and fight,so thinking about that,do you really think Goku would have ever known this until the Cell Saga.
@Ahzula0110 жыл бұрын
and i agree with u there for those people who r like that, but they r also not gohan either he was around long enough to realize this and even see doubts in his son compared to himself especially when ur putting ur child in a life or death situation and not being scared doesnt mean u dont like to do something thats called getting the job done doesnt mean u have to enjoy it (like goku) and after a while to an extent he does like fighting thats different when its coming to life and death and pulling the trigger and that also would be the first time gohan has pulled the trigger so as a dad he def shouldve realized that but i also understand wat u mean
@Ahzula0110 жыл бұрын
and right after the raditz thing gohan was thrusted into his situation no choice involved at all piccolo taking and rasing him forcing him to fight cause makes sense there was no choice with 2 saiyans on the way then having to go the namek again no choice goku was hurt so he had to do it especially feeling guilty about piccolo dying for him and by the time the cell games came about he was use ot the whole thing but he still never had the stand out moment of saving everyone and training is different then in the moment as a mentor and especially as a father he shouldve realized it

Okay...her's a thing with Goku for those tha aren't getting it; Goku, in of itself, isn't a bad dad. He's just not GOOD at being a responsible parent. He's the kind of bumbling dad character who is great with the moral support and being a loving parental figure, but he's not good with being an intellectual parent or understands how society works. REmember, he's lived in isolation for most of his early life and thus never really got the point of all the stuff everyone else makes a big deal out of. He just needs essentials; food, water, and a place to live. He doesn't really need fancy stuff and doesn't get the luxerious things people go for all the time. But if you want to question him as a dad? I think you guys are forgetting tha there are TWO parts of being a dad; being both a nurteruer and an authority figure. And while the latter is nigh impossible given that he's got a damaged brain that essentially makes him a kid most of the time. But if people think he doesn't care about his family than brother, you do not know ANYTHING about Goku as a character; yes he's selfish, yes he's an idiot, yes he doesn't always think things htrough, yes he's made dumb decisions like the Cell thing or with the Majin Buu stiuation (When admittingly that actually worked out in the end). But here's the thing; Goku DOES love his family and friends. He'll go into a rage if they get hurt (Heck, a lot of the times he wins is because he's motivated for that reason. Hell, he got Super Saiyan because Frieza murdered his best friend and Goku Black got knocked around like a ping pong ball after he revealed he murdered Chichi and Goten) and encourages them to get stronger, even if he doesn't always get things. Main point is this: Goku is a loving parent and a devoted one when we are actually seeing him interact with his family, but due to a lot of other factors, he's not exactl y a great MODERN Dad. Piccolo likely wins out in other things, but both he and Goku are the father figures that made Gohan the man he is today and Goten looks up to Goku and, as Super shows, Goku istrying a LOT harder to get to know his son here and also spend time with his eldest son and his family.

I get that much in regard to Goku as a character, my problem with him? The fact that after Cell was beaten he basically buggered off to 'Other World' to go on one of his looong training binges and left his wife to raise their son-no wait, TWO SONS and the Saiyan baka clearly never even checked in because he was surprised to meet Goten at the tournament during the Majin Buu fiasco! Chi-Chi's the bigger fool for staying married to the idiot 😡😡😡 Sorry but thinking on this subject irks me, he ditched his family and that act killed my already minimal liking of this character!
@33jedi10 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of this but I think I have to disagree with Goku's decision to stay dead being a bad choice. I mean let's be honest here at this point in time Goku had no idea of the threats to come, he had no idea about ssj3, nor did he know anything about being able to come back for a day later. . . so taking all of that aside I have to stick with his character. During the Cell fight Goku clearly stated that he wanted could have defeated Cell, but he wanted Gohan to take that role because he knew that one day he wouldn't be there and the earth was going to have to be protected by the next generation. No doubt in my mind Goku did not expect that fate to happen so soon, but regardless he did intend for Gohan to become the next hero of the story. When Goku decided to stay in other world he knew two things. 1 He attracted bad guys and 2 Gohan was far stronger than he was. Even if he did stay behind and live on earth Gohan would have outclassed him until he reached ssj2 and while Gohan probably would have never gotten weaker, and actually may have reached ssj3 along with Goku, the story would have still been the same in the end with Gohan needing a power up from the elder kai and Goku fighting with Vegeta. The only things that I believe would have been majorly different would be Gohan's over all strength, and that he may never have needed the power up, however Goku would have never learned about fusion and thus Goten and Trunks would have been at a major disadvantage. Of course Goku Gohan and Vegeta could have easily fought together, assuming Vegeta didn't need to blow himself up this time around. In the end, Goku knew that Gohan was more than capable to protect the earth and found it better to leave it to the next generation to rise up. All in all that tells me that Goku would have known that he would eventually have to pass on his title, and that selflessness and faith in his son at the time shows me that he truly did care and was doing what he could see as best for the entire world as well as for his son.

Goku couldn't beat cell he said it himself when has goku ever backed down. Goku couldn't have beat cell. Gohan was better period he was the strongest character 2 times in the series the end of dbz and when he went ssj 2 against perfect cell. Just accept it
@33jedi10 жыл бұрын
Yes Gohan was no doubt the strongest, but Goku did give up very early, before he was even halfway exhausted because he only fought so that Gohan could see how Cell would fight. That much is 100% clear as he told this to piccolo. Considering that, he also knew that he wasn't at 100% full power. That one kamehameha blast was one of his biggest no doubt because even Cell feared it, but because Cell feared it I have to assume that Goku had the power to completely overwhelm him if he would have went all out and not rested. Let's not forget, while Goku was beaten by the Cell jrs Cell already had a massive ZenKai boost from the senzu bean Goku gave him which would have increased the Cell jrs level of power as well and it was stated that they were as strong as Cell. Goku held on pretty well and so did Yamcha until his arm was broke, I mean if Cell powered up from the zenkai boost which he received after Goku nearly killed him in one attack, then his power before hand would have probably been right next to Goku's in terms of level. However, Goku had IT and Cell didn't which Gave Goku a major advantage in speed. Mix that with raw power and you have a force to be reckoned with. Even if Goku couldn't defeat Cell it could have been much closer of a fight.

@33jedi10 жыл бұрын
All I am saying is that even if Cell was stronger, it wasn't by that much. Until the Zenkai boost that is. Once Cell got that Goku really had no other choice but to have Gohan take the reigns. My point is that Goku forgot that Cell could regenerate. Had he destroyed cell by launching another rapid Kamehameha and maybe having the others blast him as well with things like tri beam and hell zone grenade, and other massive attacks, Cell would have lost before Gohan ever had to fight but instead Goku let Cell get back up. Gohan made the same mistake after his Kamehameha blast.

You're putting a bad father point for saving two people over one! It's like that level in infamous where you have to save eight doctors over your wife! Gohan would have known it would have been better to save two people over himself not to mention the fact he never died in the show at that point so he could've been revived. Honestly it's a hard decision but Goku doesn't deserve a bad father point on that one, AND the one where he has to leave his son behind so he can be safer. Bruh this is not accurate

I don't think Goku asked his son to fight just because he was the only one left alongside Krillin. He believed in his son's strength and Gohan did have what it took, it was just convincing him that he could do it. I think he would have been a bad father to discourage him from trying. Gohan was already supposed to have been fighting from the start anyway but freaked out and hid. I could understand if Goku didn't care whether Gohan could stand a chance or knew he couldn't for sure and let him. It's apart of Goku's mentality to never give up. I believe that experience helped Gohan in the long run.
