Such excellent advice - and so simple really! I’m a fan of Gail Vaz-Oxlade of Till Debt do Us Part, and her advice is exactly the same too.

I agree…putting them big girl panties on🥰. I shop at yard sales like a crazy lady in the summer, I get name brand clothing for a fraction of the cost. We bought my wedding dress, suit from Goodwill for $4 each. Back in the day! One tip we did when Covid/ cash went away…we got another debit card and label it “FUN”. We just slide the fun money over to that card and then I keep a tiny spiral notebook in purse and write it down(doing the math and keeping accountable).

Rachel. You .. are... amazing! I love how you explain all of this. I am 50 years old and now learning better ways to budget. Why didn’t I do this 30 years ago? Anyways. Better late than never... right? So I’m learning to separate my funds the way you explained. Now I do have questions.. about sinking funds. Instead of placing cash in envelopes.. do banks set up “sub accounts” where you can place singular funds under the primary account? Is to too many? Does it cost more to do this? Just a thought. I notice Credit Unions set up “Expense accounts” where you can transfer funds individually and will not be charged extra fees. Instead, you actually accumulate interest on each account. What do you think? Would love to hear back from you . :)

I just love how detailed your comments are 🥰 yes. There are bank accounts that do digital sinking funds. The one that comes to mind first is Capital One 360 Savings. I’ve never used one personally. My dad uses a normal savings account and a spreadsheet to keep track of his deposits and withdrawals of each “bucket” of money.

So many good options. We tend to use a mix of a lot of them all at once! A lot of times you have to just play around and see what works for you!

Can you make a video on how to replenish the Month Ahead Fund? I have saved for it but what is the system you designed to maintain the Month Ahead Fund routine each month after after you use it up for the next month bills? Best wishes
