The genius behind the scares in this show is awesome. All the monsters (Perfect guy, violin girl, the head, Ramses, the tree, etc.) are all usually first and most often shown all by themselves, centred on the screen, with some kind of surreal/uncanny background. Coupled with some form of animation that isn't commonly shown in the show, (Cgi, etc.). You just can't look away from it, you have to face it. I guess this show actually does teach kids real courage after all.

That creepy uncanny valley mask, it always felt out of place, like that "fotorealistic" cliche from a creepypasta done right, it always made me uncomfortable whenever she was on screen. and almost always breaking the fouth wall. i think a few of the "monsters" were legit, like King Ramses. Look at how the people react to him, Muriel is genuinely terrified of him unlike most of the "monsters" for instance. I think Fred was an unstable barber or maybe something worse, and the Mask Kat was simply an abused woman along with Bunny. The hunchback? Probably was really like that and Courage didn't imagine him that way. Btw, most of the regular people Courage meets look normal. Di Lung, the farmers, that general person, the short guy, etc. There's holes in this idea but it does make some sense.

King Ramses I would say is the scariest spirit. I can hardly even look at him or hear his voice without freaking out. Other than that, the rest of the show was just fine. This was my top favourite show as a kid and I still admire it and enjoy it to this day. Fred also reminds me a little bit of Kevin from Desery Bluffs. I think it's the smile, for sure the smile.
