Really looking forward to the reviews. Those are surely some of the finest crafted pens out there! May I ask if you regularly get to use them? I would be afraid of taking them out of the box haha!

They aren't mine, these belong to a collector I know, and these aren't inked - one of them only is mine which is my pride and joy. Inking them instantly reduces the resale vale, so if you are going to do it you use the pen as much as you can, no point using it once or twice then putting it away. That pen (the Goldfish) I try to use every day, I've learned to handle it carefully and give it a quick wipe with a soft cloth each time. I have a few inked pens on my desk and if I need to just quickly scribble something during a phone call I'll reach for something else, if I'm doing a session of deliberate writing then I'll use the Emperor.

Most of them are already out of production and I've been given access to them without their original boxes. I've got a couple of Namiki Emperor boxes and could show an unboxing as I did in the Emperor Goldfish video, but it wouldn't be the box these pens came in (sometimes 15+ years ago).

Hi, I’m not into pens but my father was. I have a quite big (for my standards) collection that includes also a Pilot Emperor Pavilion - Roukakusansui Maki-e (I know because I found it on the internet. Me and my sister would like to understand the value of the collection and maybe where to sell the pens, so I kindly ask you if there are any collectors website that I can browse. Very hard to say. The modern in production ones have the yen price in Japan embedded in their reference numbers, so when you go to the Namiki website and click on the pens, the price is there in front of you. So for the black urushi 50 non-maki-e it is FNF-148S-B, the 148 refers to 148,000 yen. So thats like a RRP for Japan, you can occasionally find them cheaper in places like Singapore and Hong Kong, but head over to Europe or North America and the prices there are usually more expensive. The non-modern ones there isn't enough volume in the second hand market to get a 'normal' price for them the older they get. So you end up just seeing what a different pen sold for say 5 years ago in an auction, and that plus whatever % increase since then is a very rough guess. When it comes to auctions they can sell at the expected price or at double it if several bidders really want the pen that rarely comes up for sale. Some of the older ones sell for many times the price of a newer pen, and when the really old and rare ones come up for sale the numbers are very high. Some sellers put incredibly high prices on them and just wait for a few years to see if anyone bites, and quite often people do.
