As the title says, they are a niche market for North America ($$,$$$) whereas in the rest of the world it is a primary means of transportation, so instead of focusing on a global market these bikes are made to be ridden only for fun, 3 months of the year, tops. Real smart. Hate when the other biker coming on the opposite traffic lane waves his arm, like some sort of motorcycle brotherhood gang sign.

It would be great to see solid-state batteries hit the market for e-bikes and e-moto bikes, this would cut the weight by 50%, and have room to expand battery pack size, giving ranges of 2k + !!!

Solid state batteries are already available in some consumer electronics, but it's hard to say when they will make their way to EVs

Nice to see more competitors getting into the market. Several of these bikes are attractively designed and explore the possibilities that exist when you don't have the constraints of IC engine, mufflers, gas tank, etc., to worry about. I am, however, disappointed that American manufacturers seem to be following the pattern set by the automakers - focus on the tail ends of the market (high end, expensive like Tarform or H-D or inexpensive and low capability like LandMoto). I have not seen many that fall into the sweet spot of decent range, powerful motor (no hub motors, please, for serious riders), and moderate price. Zero has a couple of models that hover around that target, and the Ryvid bike or the Super73 C1X could be easily upgraded to something that will be useful beyond running to the grocery store or the pub. The Terra Bikes Prime has huge potential beyond just being an off-road jumped-up bicycle (BTW Terra, you are being highly irresponsible showing a rider wearing virtually no protective gear other than a helmet), so I hope to see more from them in the future. Currently, I have a pre-order in on a Switch eScrambler, from New Zealand. This bike is essentially the equal to the LiveWire Del Mar in performance (and looks, IMO) but only costs US$12000.

If seems that this approach would be favored down the road. Expensive high-end products are supposed to cover the price of R&D, so eventually we could get access to more affordable models.
@teachparsons11 ай бұрын
I was equally looking at some European manufacturers that have a better hold on that sweet spot of performance and price but found after I did the the shipping, and duty fees it kind of came out in the wash. I'm hoping Kawasaki and Honda putting their first fully electric models out this year spurs on growth in that entry level price range and performance sphere.

None. They all look like something from a bad dream. Most people could make a better-looking motorcycle in their garage out of used bike parts.

It all depends on what customers want. The hard core biker or motorcycle enthusiast wants to ride a gas powered motorcycle. And there's nothing wrong with that. They're are many gas stations to fill up on gas. But not too many charging stations to fill up on electricity.

It's ok,our power is generated by WWII diesel engine here in INDIANA so the electricity is diesel fuel,solar and wind farms are dedicayed next generation fuel cell portability hydroqen power collection energy.No electricity available for commercial supply from solar grid,no electricity available from wind turbine farms,all used to process next generation "HYDROGEN" for like Americas Cup hydrogen fuel powered race armada chase boats built by Toyota-hydrogen fuel requires huge amounts of energy to isolate and refine as a viable power/energy supply.😮

As a casual observer, these bikes seem generally behind the international curve regarding value for money. Many of the comments here reference this. Also, many of these seem to be niche offerings for fairly wealthy folks. In other countries where many people can’t afford or don’t have the space for a car, e-vehicles are taking off and there is much more competition, thus much better prices. Most have more pleasing designs as well (in my opinion of course). Honestly, I find many of these awkward and clumsy-looking; like an experiment rather than a finished product. I would like to support American manufacturers but, as with the early electric cars, these early offering are just not a good value for me. E-Cars are getting more competitive now, so I hope this trend carries over into this segment as well. Thanks for the video!

Im a DIYer. I built a couple of of E bicycles, a hub drive and a mid drive. I also ride motorcycle.Now Im seeing how easy it can be to convert an exisiting motorcycle to electric. I like hub drive for this task if its a road bike. Only because off road might be alot of bouncing around for a hub motor which is unsprung. Whereas for Ebicycle I like the mid so you can gear the motor.

Another EV bike not mentioned is the Fuell Fllow. They're claiming availability in 2004. The problem with all NEW EV vehicles is it takes years to find out if the early claims of the manufacturers are truthful or vaporware.

Many people still ride gas motorcycles. And gas is still good. But let's say. You're riding down the highway on an electric motorcycle. And the motor stalls. You have to get off the bike. Shut the battery off. And then put that battery on again. This is what happened to me. When I had a Rollgood electric bike. I have a much better and heavier electric bike now. Made by Transpro. She runs on two 48 volt electric batteries. And goes up to 32 miles per hour. THE LONE WOLF, that I named my bike on a license plate. Can pass for the body of a Knucklehead frame minus the Knucklehead engine that Harley Davidson manufactured from 1936 - 1947. Solid steele, and all black finish. She rides like a dream.

The fact that you claim zero emissions is false nobody really knows where their electricity comes from and eventually we will go back to conventional power because people will be tired of paying taxes for more or different infrastructure. Besides that ev are interesting and definitely powerful. But I still love the noise of a great scrambler giving it power through the turns
@automotiveterritoryАй бұрын
There is nothing false. The bike (the product) doesn't have any exhaust ports, so it's zero emissions. The source of electricity is a whole different story. My neighbours have solar, while I have an EV, so I theoretically can use electricity from renewable sources

Sorry, nothing remotely interesting here. Novelties and toys. And if you still believe that electric cars and motorcycles are saving the planet, you're insane. Where do you think the electricity comes from to recharge these vehicles. The ONLY reason to purchase an electric vehicle is performance. E motors have full torque right from idle (if that's even a thing in the e world).
@automotiveterritory Жыл бұрын
Coal powerplants is not the only source of electricity. If we apply this logic, then a computer/drying/air-con are harmful to the environment since they are using electricity. Electric vehicles are not the best solution but a bit better solution compared to ICE (all environmental aspects taken into account). A small solar setup at home could generate about 5 mwh of electricity per year. That's a lot of riding time if you ask me.
@ChitFromChinola Жыл бұрын
Coal-fired power plants only supply 19.5% of electric power in the US today, and coal continues to decline. Renewables now supply 22% in the US, and rising fast. Green vs not-green discussions are irrelevant - electricity from unsubsidized solar+battery is least expensive, so it wins. Point a panel at the sun, and it generates electricity. Simple wins. Coal is dead.
