Lane Kiffin wasn't a great coach in Oakland, but he absolutely could not have done much with Jamarcus Russel. The dude was lazy and did nothing to learn an NFL offense. When Matt Millen wouldn't have drafted the guy cause of his interview, that's a huge sign the guy was never gonna get it. And where is Mike Ditka on this list. I know the Ricky Williams trade has been talked about a lot but fact is Ditka went all-in on Ricky and it blew up in his face.

Should have had Mike Shanahan. He was forced to pick RG3 by Dan Snyder when he didn't want him and when Rg3 got selfish and decided that he was going to be aaron rodgers, Mike had to change his scheme again and when that didn't work he was fired.
@rgb20662 жыл бұрын
Shanahan ruined RGIII’s career by forcing him to play injured. He made him run almost every single play even though he knew Griffin’s knees condition…He would’ve been one of the greatest QB’s of this century if it wasn’t for Shanahan.

Ryan Leaf didn't destroy Bobby Beathard's GM career, but he tried his darndest too. Bethard still got his will deserved hall of fame induction in 2018, thankfully a few years before he passed away. However, his career ended probably sooner than it would have if Leaf hadn't flopped so royally and set the Chargers back years and he would have no doubt made the hall of fame much earlier as his career track record was nearly flawless up until the point that he drafted Leaf. He helped to build two dynasties. First in the 70s with the Dolphins where he go his first real big break when Don Shula hired him to be the director of Player Personnel and he was part of the famous 72 perfect team. Then as we moved into the 80s, he would go on to Washington and assemble a core group of coachers and players that would bring the Redskins 3 Lombardi trophies and 4 NFC championships over an 11 year period. Then in the 90s he goes out to San Diego and helps them to turn a decade of losing around and got them to what is still to this day their only Super Bowl appearance. But his legacy took a major blow when he traded up in 1998 to draft Ryan Leaf with the second overall pick and the subsequent fallout that resulted from it. Fortunately for Bethard this one bad move at the end of his career didn't over shadow all that he had accomplished in Miami and Washington and up until 1998 San Diego..

@@kevinblack9503 Because it’s the Browns and you can thank them for making terrible quarterback decisions over the years (before Baker Mayfield). Justin Gilbert (Bust) Johnny Manziel just can’t stay out of trouble and he busted out of the league very quickly. Tim Couch bombed, Courtney Brown flopped due to injuries, Brady Quinn (bombed) and oh boy. Once your teammate Baker Mayfield is traded to the Panthers, good luck with Deshaun Watson next season. You know a team that is always having bad luck when it comes to dysfunctional laughingstocks like the Bears, Lions, Texans, Washington (I’m not going to say they’re dumb team name until the disgraced Dan Synder is finished), and Jaguars.

As far as the Ryan Leaf Disaster in San Diego is concerned: The Chargers definitely shot themselves in the foot with Leaf. But you forgot to mention the failure of their then-general manager, Bobby Beathard. Now, to be fair, Beathard is a Hall of Fame NFL GM for helping the then-Washington Redskins wins 3 Super Bowls (Sorry if I upset anyone by typing this. I promise you I'm not a racist.). But drafting Leaf is a pretty big stain on Beathard's career -- one which probably won't go away.

It's interesting to consider all the NFL GMs and coaches who did *not* lose their jobs for failing to draft Tom Brady. Every team that had picks in the first five rounds passed on Brady multiple times, before the Patriots finally took him in the sixth round. But it seems that the only way to actually get punished for not knowing how to draft is to draft a player who busts spectacularly. Apparently it's OK if you fail to draft the GOAT despite having multiple chances, just so long as the players you do draft don't play too far below their draft positions. Granted, Brady was the most undervalued prospect of all time. But still, if coaches and GMs get fired for picking highly-touted college stars who then flop in the NFL, failing to draft poorly-touted college players who then overperform in the NFL ought to warrant the same penalty. It seems to be a GM's job to predict the future NFL career of every draft prospect, even though a monkey throwing darts at a draft board might do about as well as a human. Essentially every NFL GM is a professional gambler. And while we're on the subject of coaches getting fired after losing seasons, can we just reflect on how lucky Zac Taylor of the Cincinnati Bengals is. He kept his job despite one of the poorer starts to a head coaching career (2-14 followed by 4-11-1), then went to the Super Bowl in his third season. Not many team owners would have shown such patience to a coach.

Daniel Jones should’ve been there because of his inconsistent play, David Gettleman just didn’t make the team any special during Eli’s last legs as a quarterback. Joe Judge completely bombed as a coach for this once proud franchise nearly 10 years after they won their last Super Bowl in 2012. After 7 years of misery (sorry, Giants fans), Gettleman was axed and Judge was fired during the end of the season. It’s make, break, or busts for Daniel Jones during the 2022 NFL season. If he still doesn’t perform, cut the cord and just release him.
