I love the wind guide system in Ghost of Tsushima, it eliminates the need to look at your map and encourages exploration (I wonder what Sucker Punch will do next? I want a sequel to that game, absolutely LOVED it, it was a brilliant way to send off the PS4 era)

I have absolutely no desire to ever play that game (I just don't like the genre personally, I find them boring and tedious, but that is just me) yet even I had to say that this system was really neat when I saw a video that described it. addendum: I can't agree with calling it brilliant though as it seems like a more refined version of a concept even Skyrim did with its clairvoyance spell. Neat, well executed, interesting, those I can agree with but it is far less original than many people seem to think.

True! Hate the fact you can't do much yourself for immersion: like grab some food, go to the gym, go to a bar for drinks etc. I desperately need a GTA SA in a GTAV style of graphics. Hope that GTA6 will be like this. Just blend RDR2 and GTA together and they're golden.

I would add Just Cause 2 to this list (and its sequels). The grappling hook and infinite parachute mechanics are freaking awesome! It's so much fun to hijack a plane, cruise around the island, jump out and skydive, then grapple hook into the ground and survive! I've spent many hours just fooling around in Panau. Also grapple-hooking people and objects together can create some hilarious situations.

There are a bunch of floating talismans that you shoot with an arrow, and you gain a momentary speed boost, and full the energy meter for running. While in the air, the boost also gives you a bit of height, so you can stay up longer. Part of it too is that you have to time it just right for a perfect hit, which gives you more boost and energy

Meanwhile, in the Witcher 3, you've got so many places just to explore, in the base game already, then there's the extensions.... Got a special soft spot for the Skellige Islands, whether on foot or by boat, or on Roach with his glorious local attire (Gerald too, I'm especially fond of one of the Skellige traditional amor, no- not the one you just buy when you first arrive, the one you find multiple times just a bit later, simpler but sooo efficient)🎋 Right now, feeling sometimes bit ...lost in Witcher 1- but I don't really even care, I've learned well in Witcher 3, about the joys of just wandering around and exploring by yourself 🎋

2:02 I completely agree with this, in Dying Light 1 even after playing new game+ countless times and was completely maxed out I still had to consider whether I would traverse the world at night and I had a grappling hook that could attach to practically anything and hoist me up at neck breaking speed. In Dying Light 2 the only time I was wary about traversing at night was at the beginning of my first playthrough plus once you get the paraglider the threat of the world drops even more drastically.

Along with updating the parkour and making it feel less floaty, and giving us some new filters (including one for darker nights) Volatiles are once again roaming the city and WILL mess you up if they catch you unawares. Not to mention some returning features that lots of people have requested, such as weapon throwing and using a knife to slide down a billboard. As shown in the E3 demo. For anyone who gave up on Dying Light 2, now is the time to pick it up again. The game is in a much better state than it was when it launched.

By far, the most notable day and night system for me was dragons dogma. It came out years ahead of dying light and on your first play through when you weren't sure what to do. It made you not want to be out at night.

Sunset overdrive reminds me of one of my all time favourite games, Jet Set Radio Future. Came out in the early 00’s, it’s a rollerblading game set in Japan, and all the grinding mechanics are the same, one level is an entire grind on a roller coaster in a skyscraper district. The graphics and music is awesome, everyone check it out for sure!!!

I really like the 3 character switching mechanic that Rockstar Games did for GTA V. It's definitely unique and separates itself from other games, and it's pretty funny when you switch to a character and the character is doing something odd or random. I also like as mentioned that you can replay missions and get different perspectives from the different characters.

Yes, ia m surprised that Red Faction Gurriella's destruction physics didn't get improved or gravitated to other games. This is what Crackdown 3 should have had in the main game and so many others. Wow, nothing has replicated it.

I've recently been playing a game called SpaceBourne 2 that's full of A lot of cool little mechanics to immerse u into the world, may be an early access but the game has tons of potential. I'm interested to see what the indie company behind it has in its sights, because so far it's like what they say Starfield will be like.

Falcon, thank you for hammering my head with Red Faction Guerrilla in several videos. I decided to give it a go this weekend with Playstation plus and oh gosh, how come I haven't played this before? I loved it so much! I feel like Physics based destruction games are always nice, but they are much too centered on that (destroy this, or that and that's it). If you build something like this and add unrelated stuff (like enemies with guns) where you can subconsciously use the physics to your advantage (like destroying a pillar behind the enemy that will fall on them, or destroying the whole building), THAT's the thing we need, not just blind destruction in sandboxes.

The great thing about Gravity Rush's "flight" is that depending on how you control the powers changes how well Kat "falls with style". If you just shift willy-nilly she kinda ragdolls through the air; but if you control yourself and gravity well she actually does "flying" animations and not ragdoll; much like the character Raven, who always makes her gravity powers look badass. It's down to player input on whether Kat looks badass or not.

Another unique thing, not a mechanic, but a fine detail I thought worth mentioning. You know how in a lot of games there’s a pile of something and you pick up something from it or something falls into it and nothing about that pile changes? In Ghost of Tsushima, in the Gear menu, there’s falling leaves THAT ACTUALLY ADD TO THE PILE!!

Outer Wilds was such a good experience, I had my own ridiculous crashes, seen coming and not. I had a moon swipe me, got sent spinning in the dark ship, it won't move, so I get out of the chair to go see the damage, and, well, the rest of the ship was just gone. I was floating free in space with my tiny space helmet. Little Big Solar System.

On the note of Red Faction Guerilla, Battlefield Bad Company 2 had some seriously good destruction mechanics that were very similar. There would be a whole squad in MP dominating from the third story of a building, and you could just ram all the load bearing walls with a tank, or stack C4 and trigger from the ground floor. Whole thing would come crashing down, nobody left. That game had some real 🤌moments from building destruction. They toned it back in the following BF games, for very justified balancing reasons. The map would have NO cover left halfway through a match; I miss the destruction physics in that game so much though.
