Two corrections 1. It's American MAID. Her stars and stripes are a maid uniform 2. Strongbow is a surname of both American Indians and Europeans. The reason such last names feel over the top is because we associate them with stereotypes and jokes. But these names actually existed. Just to list some examples: Jerry Lonecloud, Quannah Chasinghorse, Rudy Youngblood, Jay Siverheels, Michael Greyeyes, Ashley Callingbull, Monica Crowfoot, But Europeans have similar last names; Lightfoot, Redfern, Ashbrook, Windsong, Birdwhistle, Winterbourne, Twelvetrees, Featherstone... The key is to have the surname be fitting of the tribe. You don't have a Micmac with the surname Bylilly, and you don't have a Sioux with the last name Sylliboy. But this is why creatives need to do their research

The one that immediately springs to mind (that should've been on this list) is Liberty Belle. DC hero, mom of Jessie Quick.

The creator of American Eagle may have been a wrestling fan. Chief Jay Strongbow was a popular professional wrestler in the 1970s and early 1980s. Of course, he was actually an Italian-American pretending to be Native American to stand out from other wrestlers, but he may have been the source of the name.
