Why all the Jason hate? His 3F out of those spirals is AMAZING. Just cause he doesn't do quads and isn't perfect. If this was women's this would be the opposite conversation, everyone would be defending him and saying the quad jumpers were ruining skating by making it more about jumps then artistry.

Ilia should go to the Olympics. He executes his jumps perfectly and he even uses difficult transitions. Why are they so against him going? I think they just like Jason more.
@hekoriginaljni6489
@hekoriginaljni6489 2 жыл бұрын
Ilia just crushed me with his jumps and his energy, and even being the big Jason fun, I can say Ilia should've won the third spot over him. BUT not for the Olympics. Honestly, nor Jason neither Ilia can fight for the podium, so the choice was who would benefit team score the most. They could've risked and go with Ilia and he could've given them around or slightly bigger score then perfect Jason's execution, but if Ilia fails to skate as good as on nationals, it would hurt the team. Would Ilia do good job or fail is hard to say because he has very little senior international experience (or none?) and no one can say if he'll be able to handle the pressure. Jason, on the other side, was stable last few years and there's higher change he would score well. Overall, I think US skating decided not to takes risks at competition of such a scale, and personally I'm happy Jason got what he worked for hard so many years, but also super happy we'll see Ilia on Worlds - he has all the potential to shine in seasons to come.

@@Gemini530 I personally would have sent Ilia to get some experience, but I will defend Jason a bit here. People have been saying he doesn't have enough technical his entire career, but every single time he's been at a major event (Worlds/Olympics) he has placed top 10. He was 7th at World last year while Vincent bombed and didn't make the LP. We like to pretend the "top guys" are super consistent or something, but they're not - aside from Nathan and Yuzu. In a team situation, Jason's stability is super valuable.

@SingSongEric ... You go to the Olympics to win, not to be in the top ten. Looking at all the top contenders' programs' score value, Jason's programs have ZERO chances. Good Height and Distance, Effortless throughout, Good Take off and landing, Creative entry, Good body position. He really wasn't that tilted in the air to warrant getting that +5 off. Because Jason has very complex steps before the jump, it is effortless, clean, hitting most GOE bullets. The GOE depends of the execution of the jump, not on the base value. His spins are faster now than they were before but they still travel quite a bit so he needs more work. @haxicle5378
@haxicle5378 2 жыл бұрын
I think the judges rate each jump with an integer between -5 and 5, but the actual GOE that translates to depends on the base value of each jump, where a greater base value the greater (or lower) the GOE.
@jesuslover2468
@jesuslover2468 2 жыл бұрын
Think of GOE as the bonus percentage threshold for the base value of the jump. +1 means 10% bonus points based on base value of the harder jump on the combo (4Lz). +5 means 50% bonus points over BV. 4Lz base value = 11.5, so +5 GOE means 11.5 + 5.75 (which is 50% of 11.5) =17.25
