From a female's perspective, this is greatly appreciated. I attend church in which there is a socially expected dress code, but it is not followed consistently, especially by the young men. The boys and men who do wear suits, however, are always the nicest ones to me and most chivalrous. It is even better if I can tell the man is wearing a suit and dressing nicely not to impress people, but dressing to show respect for the establishment and love of the Lord.
@kletts422 күн бұрын
Hardly anyone wears a suit where I go to church. I wore a tie the other day and got a lot of comments for wearing a tie. It was also a fun Christmas tie, but it was more noticed that it was a tie. Now that it is cooler out, I can wear better outfits and not sweat like crazy.

The truth is a man can wear a suit any day of the week, at any point in time. Primarily, the main issue is men who are unaccustomed to wearing a suit or formal clothes are fearful of being judged by others. The problem with today is looking neat, clean and sharp is an aberration, but wearing a t shirt with jeans is superior. A long way down menswear has become.

I have watched my grandfathers and uncles stitch these for other customers while i used to spend my time in their shops as a kid. Its a great Skill and Art ! Today , I select my Fabric ( which are the finest ones that I can afford) for the suites, for the lining , for the shirts . I try to design my style and get them tailored since I still have tailors in the family. I can never be happy with a "ready made " suit or a jacket. I know I am blessed with this . Every time I wear them , I remember our family tradition , I remember my grandfathers and my Uncles. I never miss a chance to dress in a suit . When at work , I am in Scrubs. Going into a Bank 0r financial institution, visiting an office building where there is a restaurant/bar, governmental offices and environs... and during the summer at any upscale places and events where you can wear lightweight linen suits. There are actually quite a few locales where a suit would be suit-able. Particularly in an urban environment. I also like the idea of dressing up to encourage other men to do so by example.

Anyone can, with a little will. Please stop the myth it must be expensive! 🙏🙏 A designer t-shirt IS expensive. £5-10 do the job. $100 on Ebay + tailoring. A decent cotton corduroy sports jacket can be had for $200 to $300 SRP. Nautica runs $295. Hilfiger is a similar price. However, after Christmas you can generally get the leftovers for half price, of nearly that low. You probably already have chinos or even dark jeans with no holes. Goes good with a dark green, brown, or blue button shirt with a buttoned collar so the collar doesn't flop around. I pick these colors because it seems like most corduroy sports jackets are brown.

Great tips and I agree with all of them. Here’s something I do that wasn’t mentioned: dress up to go shopping, especially high end stores but even budget stores. I wear a suit all the time. I wear it to the office (and am the only one to do so) and also wear it when doing basic things like shopping, etc. I used to feel uncomfortable, as though I were walking around with some big target painted on my back. But it's all nonsense. Your greatest enemy is yourself and your own embarrassing anxieties. I can tell you from experience it will improve your confidence and the way you carry yourself. It even psychologically seems to affect others too, and seems to somehow command more respect. I've enjoyed it to the point I'll slip into something fancy even when going clubbing, though my friends all seem quietly jealous of this sometimes. And let me tell you, a suit in a club/pub is like a cheat code because you can so easily draw attention from strangers, including girls. Rock that suit and live your damn life.

@seascape35 A couple of buddies spent a summer backpacking through Europe in their 20's. They dressed casually like typical college students most of the time, but they packed dress shoes and dark suits which they took turns carrying in a garment bag. In many cities, including Monte Carlo, the fanciest bars and casinos had a strict dress code for men. They would suit up and hang out in the casinos in the evening and live out their James Bond fantasy. They were still broke college students, but they flirted at the bar with the hot neglected girlfriends of the rich older dudes who were busy at the gaming tables.

I do enjoy your videos, however, being in my sixties, a lot of your content was taught in primary school back then. Also, Sunday best was expected and not really optional!! As a result, I subconsciously open doors for ladies, walk on the outside when in the street, use the correct cutlery, excuse myself when required, pretty much a lot of what you’ve described in your videos.. I don’t come from an affluent background or go to a posh school..in fact, being from Ireland, my early schooling was provided by the Christian Brothers(& the state) and those guys were not always the most pleasant! However, my decade of choice for dress wear, is the 1940’s/ 1950’s, and as I’m not the tallest chap in the world, getting the authentic look has to be tailored, or vintage bought. I have three 1940’s replica suits, two 1980’s suits(which can pass for 1940’s) & two modern suits which I don’t like wearing but were bought for weddings(too tight & uncomfortable), and lastly a complete 1950’s wardrobe of 1950’s Box jackets/pleated pants and loop collared shirts(some repro but most vintage), finished off with various two tone or plain penny loafers, all acquired over time, which I love… I have a small reputation within the scene here of ‘always looking so well’ which pleases me, but, in fairness to be well turned out, just feels so good.. thank you for indulging my lengthy comment, and perhaps you might do a little feature on how, the ‘classic’ look never seems to date🤗.
@PotsdamSenior5 сағат бұрын
Yes, we old gents have been brought up differently. My father never left the house without suit or at least a sports jacket, tie, and hat. Nor do I. And I totally agree: modern suits are cut way too skinny. Ridiculous. I only buy second hand (limited funds!), when in doubt one size too large, and have the jackets tailored to fit - I do the trousers myself, but jackets are another skill level. I know my limits 😂 Jackets just slightly slimmer than "1950s box", and I'm happy. Two tone shoes... I don't know. I think they would be too flashy. Black, two shades of brown, and burgundy are enough for me.

It wasn’t a full suit, but last weekend my wife and I went on our traditional Christmas dinner date. We went to an upscale restaurant where we had never been. I wore charcoal herringbone trousers, white dress shirt, mid-gray tweed vest, green and white striped tie and a dark maroon velvet blazer. I topped it off with a dark green and maroon paisley pocket square and oxblood brogues. My wife wore a beautiful black and white print dress. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say people in the restaurant, from the servers to the patrons around us, absolutely lost their minds! We received endless compliments all through the evening and they even brought us a complimentary desert because we looked so nice. This restaurant actually has a dress code and I would estimate by my observation that 99% of the men there were skirting the line of what is acceptable. I was the only one I saw with a jacket and certainly the only one with a tie. Our standards of what is proper upscale dinner attire for men is completely out the window. It is sad that society, men especially, have sunken to such lows. I’m fairly certain that if this restaurant did not have their dress code in place, most men would be paying $200 for a meal wearing sweatpants and superhero t-shirts.

Try, but also pay attention what it does to your spine. It may help you improve your posture, but sooner or later (or maybe not at all?) it might cause discomfort for your spine. In my opinion, its NOT a decorative accessory, but more like something to perform a function (hold your pants up) but something to conceal under a jacket.

An enormous faux pas found on the character of "Higgins" in the original, one-and-only, Magnum: When wearing a three-piece suit, the tops of his trousers were too low and/or the bottom of the vest/waist coat was too high, thus revealing a belt buckle. It never failed. For you men who don't have braces/suspenders for your pants, and you have to wear a belt, for God's sake, slide the buckle to one hip or the other. Your belt will not be so obvious if it's a dark leather on a dark suit.

Is it possible to bring back the fedora without looking like a big fucking nerd?
@cmmates8853 күн бұрын
Yes it is possible. As long as the outfit you are wearing is well put together, a fedora in a complimenting colour will look good too. The issue is wearing a fedora with poorly put together outfits. As a fedora wearer myself, I say try one out!

It is possible, and I own three of them. Purchased one with style, and I have received compliments on where to buy them.

Flying In Style Too many people who fly today are such slobs. Up dressing seems a good way to change the narrative. At least for those who put in effort on how they look.

Sorry to say men dress casually for classical concerts and opera. Almost no-one wears a suit, even at the Metropolitan Opera. Church? It's informal there too.

Perfect video! I agree with most of the ideas, I would only disagree with wearing a tie for a private dinner in a restaurant, suit without a tie is better. If you don't want to come across as a server or restaurant manager in the dining room. I have over 10 years of experience in the luxury hotel industry. If it is a professional dinner then neck tie is of course perfect. For me, neck tie is only for professional attire. Bow tie is another story of course, the bow tie is a display of personality. For funerals I would also go with a black neck tie and a black or dark blue suit. To the Casino I would go smart casual, or black tie attire. To the Opera I would also wear a black tie attire. Thid video shows that we can dress up for many occasions

I agree, but many people in this community are very adamant about "suit and tie everywhere". I'd guess many of them are not frequenting fine dining establishments. I rarely wear a tie nowadays, even for professional events. I wear black/white tie more often than I do a standard necktie.
@mikenolan22193 күн бұрын
If you instist in wearing a tie: Maybe you can get away wearing a tie in the dining room if you wear a knitted or woolen neck tie with a textured jacket and trousers in another complimenting colour. Do you agree? @@jamess.2491

I would disagree. My opinion, a suit without a tie,... may as well a suit without a shirt too There was a survey done some years ago, about this. Better to wear a shirt & tie without a 'jacket' THAN a shirt and jacket without a tie. Suit without a tie looks like homeless.
@mikenolan22193 күн бұрын

I have noticed that men look so much better in suits. When a TV host or guest appears without a suit on, I find I put less value on what he has to say.
