One thing I love about vintage shopping is repairing the wear in the things I buy, so small rips at the arm pit seams and pockets or weakened buttons are totally an a-ok from me. It makes me really happy to know that I kinda contributed to the history of the clothes in a much more visible way.

Nice! Visible repairs are something that a lot of people are finding to be quite charming in clothes, too

@@gentlemansgazetteWear and tear can't be avoided, but I mostly try to repair it in a less visible manner. Except socks, which I always darn with a contrasting colour. In general, while not quite as frequent as washing and ironing, mending clothes is just a natural part of owning them, and my sewing machine, and other tools, are always ready to use.

This is more the sort of video that I subscribed for. For spot stains I just use a steamer with a spout to blast the stain. They're usually food stains, so they will dab out. Works for most soiling from body oils as well. Failing that a wash in warm water. Dry cleaners seem to have a one size fits all policy that often misses the issue, so that would be a last resort for me.

This makes me wanna go out on the hunt again and look for quality hallmarks, as well as things pointed out here. At run of the mill stores like Goodwill, they will price well known brands at much higher than usual (Allen Edmonds) but if you know how to spot quality in general then you can get some wins. Years ago I snagged a pair of Weejun suede penny loafers for less than $10 and I have bought several pairs of wool trousers for less than five per pair.

I found that the really fancy vintage clothes shops charge way too much for some items. Sometimes the best fines are at the budget vintage clothes shops that don’t know what they have. I was looking for a Burberry trench or a Barbour coat today and finally found something adequate. One place had it listed for $450 and the other $50. Pretty much the same coat. Hundred percent cotton with a wool lining. From the early 80s and barely worn. For reference this is an NYC.

Hello Gentlemen, I have a question: Do you know about traditional attire for Sunday Catholic Mass? Thank you in anticipation.
@iainmc98592 күн бұрын
It's where the phrase 'Sunday Best' comes from. Any suit would do for a special mass but to be honest the Catholic Church is as modern as any other religious institution and a pair of jeans and a jumper would not be uncommon. Just don't wear a hat in the church.

If it doesn't fit, don't buy it! 95% of you won't get it to a tailor and it will just sit in the closet unworn.

Everything has to go to the tailor, otherwise it will likely never fit or your standards are potentially too low. Of course, some people are lucky that something fits really well, I am not one of those people. I always need alterations.
