13:46 if you want to start working out at home just start with pullup bar and some resistance bands and use your body wight. you will not be a pro body builder but you will build good body and strength. and after you found you kept using the bar then you can get cheap dumbbell set with interchangeable weights that will last for many years after you, you can even get them used and get a cheap used bench, used them for a year if you didn't stop then and only then invest in better equipment depending on your needs

I'm still using my iphone 5! Bought in 2013, ios will no longer update and I did change the battery 3 years ago (bought for 30 bucks on Amazon) but as of July 2025, the 3G network will no longer be supported so I'm being forced to buy a new phone. You should really, really update your phone. Not being able to update to the latest IOS leaves you incredibly vulnerable to having your device hacked. Assuming you access your bank account and other valuable information with your phone, this would all be accessible to a hacker. Best practice is to make sure your phone’s software is supported by the company who made it still, that you have the most recent software updates, that any important apps are updated to their most current form, and restart your phone every evening. Tech security is not a place to cheap out.

What I find funny about branded clothing is that if you NEED to wear the logo to show you can afford it, it's means you're around people that probably wear fakes, but most people can't tell the difference, so it just looks like you're wearing a fake too. Around here it's usually chavs that wear the overly branded stuff.

The only thing, I am guilty of is buying exercise equipment except, I am probably one of a small percentage that use it regularly. Also, I watched a documentary about De Beers years ago. I found it dark and yet laughable sad how much people are willing to pay for diamonds. The 'natural' products always remind me of that documentary, I watched on pesticide free produce. I remember this bio scientist said, "Pesticide free isn't really, pesticide free. It just means less pesticides."

I'm surprised in your knife recommendations, you did not mention Zwilling (JA Henckels). Granted in the US, many garbage knives are sold under the name "Henckels Intl" that are made in China, but their top shelf Zwilling (Twin in German) are fantastic. I never used anything else when I was a professional cook in another life and still don't. I've heard they used to offer free resharpening for life with their knives (you did have to pay to ship your knives to them) but I am not sure if they still do that (I just sharpen mine at home). Only knives I think are needed are: chef's knife, santoku (I prefer it for thinly slicing vegetables), bread knife, smaller serrated knife (for cutting tomatoes without smashing them), a small paring knife, and maybe a bone knife if you are into filleting. And a good set of steak knives is always a must. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NEVER PUT YOUR KNIVES IN THE DISHWASHER! ALWAYS WASH BY HAND!!!

I'm still using an iPhone 8, and while I did finally get a newer vehicle, I had been driving an old Chevy Malibu for almost 13 years. I spent all of the money I saved from not having a car payment for so long on things like student loans or credit card debt, and now my wife and I pretty much only have a mortgage and car payment for debt. (Both of which we're on schedule to pay off well before the loans' projected lifetimes.) We're not extremely frugal by any means, but not wasting money on little stuff here and there has really allowed us to treat the kids to vacations and whatever else they need far more comfortably.

Brock, you’re being generous with water bottle company’s charging 30 times more than what you’d normally pay drinking water from the tap… truth is, those multiples are more in the hundredths and they literally use the same water. You can also purchase a water filter that’s easy to install to the cold water line of your sink, if you’re concerned about taste &/or “chemicals”.

I'll try and make an argument here as to why I respect the lottery more than the gambling industry. The reason is twofold. Firstly, lottery is run by states, so you could say that the money the state makes from it will go into improving the lives of its citizens. I know it's not always like that in practice, but the money casinos make definitely doesn't go into improving anyone's life other than the casino owners'. Secondly, the Lottery is not really marketed. I'm not sure what it's like in America, but where I am, there's virtually no marketing for the lottery. They're not trying to scam you out of your money with apparent glamour, like the gambling industry does.
@IStillLikeIke

Decent video Brock! I think you could sum up this video by puttin all the items in this list in 2 categories: useless services and marketing hype. In developed countries, our economies are mostly focused on services, especially in urban areas. Therefore, creating new services, which people don't really need, but are willing to pay for, is what we call 'economic growth'. Hence the meal delivery services, for example. Then you have the 'hype' category, which includes items that have little or no inherent value, but have culturally become status symbols - cars, diamonds, and let's be honest, also watches. Weddings, for instance, straddle the 2 categories. They are a set of services (event planning, makeup, tailoring etc.) which has also become inflated in price due to cultural hype. There is one category you listed here, though, that I genuinely believe is a good investment: bottled water. While tap water is safe to drink in certain areas, and filters can make it even safer, the quality of the water in terms of chemical composition is usually much lower than you get in high-quality bottled water. Yes, you can get fancy filters that might enhance the properties of the water, but they'll still not get it to be the same as good bottled water. The plastic is an issue, and I will admit, I don't yet know how to solve it. You can get water bottled in glass, but drinking 2L of that a day gets seriously expensive. Personally, I've tried water filters for as long as a year, but have gone back to bottled water. The reason is that, since water is the substance which I put the most of in my body every day, I prefer to rest assured I get the highest quality possible. And, unfortunately, in my understanding, this is still bottled water.

i completely agree with every single point except "Water" and "Wedding"... there are countries/places which don't have access to clean water, you need to buy them... and with wedding, you do not want to go cheap on that... there is either you spend money on your wedding which your wife chose or be ready to get haunted by her taunts for your entire life 🤣... and also natural products (real natural products) might come under grey area... because some natural products can work, some cant

@@BrockMcGoff I've heard bad things about Canada Goose recently, trying to reduce the amount that their warranty covers and refusing certain repairs, which is pretty unforgivable when you look at the prices they're charging. But that kinda shows their priorities. They've become a fashion brand and realised they can make more as a status symbol rather than a serious performance product.. I'm sure they're good quality, but are they actually any better than other top brands that are charging less than half the price? Plenty of people summit mountains in the Himalayas with jackets a fraction of the cost of Canada Goose, so you're obviously not paying a premium for the performance.

I would add another 2 items to your list, Brock: coffee and film/TV streaming services. I used to work for a coffee company and I was shocked to find out how big the coffee industry is. Most people in the world pay significant money for a drink that is essentially useless. Humanity was just fine for hundreds of thousands of years with no coffee. But now, most of us in the world drink it daily. Coffee is a healthy drink if consumed black and in small quantities, but the coffee industry isn't as big as it is because people drink their coffee black and in small quantities. All the coffee shop culture, the home coffee applicance industry, the million different drinks (different ways to add milk, different types of milk, different ways to foam it, hot, cold etc.) are a perplexing waste of resources, and terrible for your health too, if you use high fat milk, lot of sugar, and drink multiple of these a day. As for film/TV streaming services, need I explain this? Enormous waste of time and money on low quality entertainment.

Charities are a scam. Spend the money on yourself.

I read a book called Utopia for Realists that convinced me that big charities with lots of overhead are somewhat scammy (or at least ineffective), but giving cash directly to those who need it is VERY effective. That’s how I try to give now.

@@BrockMcGoff I posted a link to explain it. If you didn't read it basically: I am not non-white. I am black. That should be clear on why "non-white" is offensive. I am not a "non-something" i am what i am. something. a person outside of you. i am not a non-you. i am me.
@BrockMcGoff

@t-man5323 I don't think "non-white" means black. It's like "non-hispanic" which you see on most forms. It covers multiple categories. It's a term used to exclude one group, not to designate another specific group. It's also not my term. It's a generic term used all over the place. I'll check out the link you posted. Edit: I don’t see any link

@@BrockMcGoff i never said it meant black. and i get why you are using it, and from my side it has implications and i am saying its offensive, and i am not the only one who thinks that. I am not a non-white or a non-hispanic or a non-whatever. simple. i know it isn't a phrase you invented. and it wouldn't be the 1st time people continue to use terms that others find offensive BESIDES their protests. We've been against this term since it became en vogue. the link i posted is an article written in 2018. People still use words like "the developing world" which is crazy, despite protests. "Non-hispanic". i don't like it. We don't like it. "third world" "Developing countries" "free world" but they continue using them and insulting people. the link will get deleted but the article is google-able: its "The End of Non-Whites" by Natalie S.
