Video Idea: If you are interested I would love a video discussing fashion as women age and how it connects to the increasing casualness of fashion and societal change. I have seen a good number of comments and videos talking about women’s fashion as they mature. However, I have not seen too many discuss how the increasingly informality of fashion makes it harder to create mature looks that do not appear frumpy. My hypothesis is that this is because women should as they age increase in status [move up hierarchy to matriarch et cetera] but this tends not to happen anymore even superficially in terms of fashion. Basically women’s fashion should get more formal and luxe as they age is the idea, due to their status increasing. I think we see the issue shine through in everything from hair to shoes and jewelry. It all seems like it is a reflection of an unnatural societal distortion fixating on youth and young girls [and also sex]. Is it due to societal decay? Is it made worse by always having mixed sex spaces leaving no room for female only power structures and hierarchy? Regardless this seems like a tangled mess of many factors. Ironically I only really notice these patterns because I have been in societies where they have more traditions that are intact than most of the western world. If this still is not quite clicking then maybe consider watching some historical Korean drama’s where a healthy family is a main focus. If you watch the interactions between the grandmother’s, mothers and daughters in particular it is quite eye opening. As a slightly differently aimed example, the grandmother is a figure of great respect usually and in her areas of expertise her son would never ever try to impose his will and only ever make very respectful polite requests. Notice how alien that sounds? Women currently do not have respect/status when they age and that is what stands out to me right now like a wart. [This comment is so long. Omg. You got me thinking!] On other notes… I appreciate the topic of this video. There are so many things where the solutions are not always what we think due to odd normalization biases that warp our assumptions. As a startling example, I was looking at eventually getting laser treatment for a few spider veins. Now I doubt I will need to because I recently realized the nattokinase supplement I have been taking for circulation health seems to be getting rid of them. I think half of the issue women often have is that “solutions” we may be offered are not the correct match to the true problem and there are other often better solutions. For example, micro needling would probably be ideally better for wrinkle treatment than botox because it helps rebuild collagen deeper in the skin and thus would reduce the wrinkle. But, people view botox as the standard solution to wrinkles and thus it is all anyone considers. This seems to result in women mismatching treatments/actions and results/goals in very unhappy ways in beauty. Also, just recently got a shampoo/conditioner line [the cica line by some by mi, korean] that is great for scalp health. Definitely recommend it to anyone interested. I love it because it has a conditioner designed to actually be used directly on your scalp. I tend to stay away from using almost any products for styling. I have cut out foundations/concealers currently because I have found my skin basically hates starches, zinc and titanium dioxide. I don’t have a reaction, but they don’t work correctly. Currently in diy experimentation for alternatives…. I also, rarely use nail polish now. I push back my nails then use nano glass nail files and finally buff them smooth finishing with an oil. Occasionally I might use nail polish or gel, but not often anymore.

Caitlin, with you 100%. I am 73. I quit dying my hair cold turkey during lockdown. Went from brown to platinum and I love it. I no longer wash it every day (more like every fourth or fifth day), I no longer style it with heat tools or hairspray. You can see it in my profile pic. It is the healthiest and shiniest it has ever been. Nails, I have had acrylics a long time ago. Don’t do that anymore. Botox and filler, never had, never will, but I did a nip tuck. I have that same LED mask. I won’t do extensions or eyelashes because I think they lead to hair loss. Eat less and exercise more if I put on five pounds. My philosophy now is be the best natural I can be. Natural really is a great look.

A trick I learned for gardening was to scratch a bar of soap so you have soap under your nails. After you're done, the dirt doesn't go under your nails and the soap should wash off, leaving your nails smelling great.

I had a disastrous Botox result with the very first treatment ( a bad ptôsis of 1 eyelid) which required surgery to the eye muscle to fix! So my scepticism about these procedures that really invade the tissue went through the roof! Also stopped going to nail salons as we absorb the toxic chemicals through the nail bed into the blood stream. Stopped colouring my hair, thanks to our Victorian premier Daniel Andrew’s who locked us Melbournians in for months & months during Covid & in denying me access to my hairdresser, he allowed me to see that my natural hair was actually better than the expensive colour!!! I too at 59 years of age bought the best at home micro current machine on the market: the myolift mini & honestly my morning gua sha routine is more effective! What I do is a morning facial massage daily with castor oil mixed with jojoba & 2 gua sha to do each side of my face simultaneously… it’s great, I’ve noticed a big difference in my 60 year old skin! Strongly recommend!

I’ve found that many ‘beauty treatments’ are substituting for a lacking within the medicinal health space for women. Many treatments often target visible signs of inflammation, but they’re often unable to assist in regulating or removing the agonists. That being said, anything that reduces chronic stress is definitely a good thing. A few hours at a Beaty spa if your relaxed is often far better than many anti inflammatories you can take, but it’s more about finding ways to improve your overall health in sustainable and consistent ways (LOL and I definitely can’t afford regular beauty spa trips each week 😹). I think knowledge and education is definitely powerful here. I think people would take time and care of their health if it was labelled appropriately rather than labelled as a trivial beauty pursuit in vanity. For example we may be more likely to seek medical treatment for a staph infection, rather than purchasing beauty creams to treat a condition that we call dry, irritated skin ‘eczema’, despite the fact it’s the same condition....I think we start figuring this out more and more as we get older, that our internal and external environments definitely affect our well-being and appearance. Women, moreso than men, often have systemic responses and are more likely to suffer autoimmune responses. If something about our well-being or appearance is a concern, that it may be best to seek out health based information, rather than adding-to-cart at Sephora lol.

I am a medical esthetician/senior beauty therapist. I really respect and applaud you for this. I too am making cutbacks and trying to wean myself off botox. I think skin health is great and I'll promote that and treatments as "self care" but I'm also aware of the mental prison we can end up creating for ourselves too, metaphorically speaking. It can go the opposite direction. I don't think anyone should be forced or chastised into getting botox and fillers, but stick with what feels right for them and have autonomous thought. This is what I've always promoted with my clients too and it turn, they respect me for that also. Some great food for thought, here. Thanks for sharing. I've been making a lot of the same changes. I also agree with your bt you messaged. 💯 She knows what's up.

I’m 51. I’ve only ever had my nails done professionally once and that was just a regular manicure. I’ve never had any acrylic or shellac or anything. They are very healthy. I too love my short little stubby nails 😂. I have always done my own hair (disclaimer, I was trained as a cosmetologist, I just don’t practice anymore, I’m now a nurse). I don’t use hardly any products on my hair nor any heat and it is thick, wavy and very healthy. I also quit wearing makeup in 2020. My skin looks way better now. Very clear, no wrinkles. So my thoughts…natural is best and the less products the better. That is my experience. It’s also WAY cheaper. I think a lot of this stuff is money making schemes for the manufacturers and we are just trained (via ads and influencers) to think we need it and we absolutely do NOT. Take it from a 51 year old. Eat healthy, take care of your body and exercise.

I like that you included Botox and fillers. I hate how normalised these have become. I find it very sad how many women feel the need to get these things done. I have a very unpopular opinion that may pee people off - I think that we women over 30 have a kind of duty to ensure we do not raise the beauty standard even higher and place even higher burdens on young women and girls. After all the more women have procedures done, the more the norm becomes perfect skin, no wrinkles, straight white teeth, filled lips etc and this raises the beauty standard to crazy levels which younger women and girls in particular come under pressure to meet. I think we should be role models to show younger women, and particularly girls, that what is truly beautiful is accepting yourself and realising that your “flaws” are a societal construct. I refuse to buy into the idea that Botox, fillers and plastic surgery have anything to do with body positivity and confidence, as to me it is the opposite. I see it as stemming from insecurity and even deeper than that from the patriarchal societal pressure on women. I would love if women collectively turned around and said NOPE to these treatments. I would love if together we could stop these industries from profiting off of our insecurities and collective oppression.

I quit coloring my hair and let it go naturally gray. In December of 2021 I had a mild case of Covid with few side effects...but my hair started falling out. After a discussion with my hair stylist, we both agreed that continuing to color it was probably not going to be helpful in it growing back in plus I was tired of the expense and more so, the time spent going every 5-6 weeks to have it done again, sitting there for two hours. I can do better things with my time and money! I also knew I was going to be having surgery and a major recovery period, so it just made sense. Yeah, it looked a little weird for a period of time, but that has passed and now it's all grown out and gone. Some days I look and miss my color, but at the same time, I don't miss the wasted 2 hours every 5 or 6 weeks. And yes, it all did grow back in post Covid!

It is such a great discussion. The thing that really made me start re-thinking beauty standards was firstly, getting older and not having a lot of time to devote to constantly getting treatments done and secondly, seeing Pamela Anderson at Paris fashion week going completely fresh faced. She radiated grace and elegance and you could tell she was so comfortable in her own skin. She owned her beauty for the first time probably in her life and had complete control over how she presented to the world. It was her idea of beauty and not that dictated by the "male gaze". Questioning and even choosing to depart from what we are taught through social media regarding how we "should" look is so important, so thank you for making this video xx

I too have come to love my short stubby fingernails. Throughout my 20s I always kept my nails long ( kind of French manicure style ). The turning point for me was when I was scrolling through pictures of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and noticed that they have very stubby short nails (And they just know how to make it look so cute...with chunky rings on their fingers). Sometimes excepting your natural beauty works in your favor… You become uniquely beautiful. :)

Since 14, I've adorned acrylic long nails to mask my brachydactyly, feeling insecure about my short fingers. Now at 21, a casual chat about Megan Fox's thumbs. Her thumbs trait unnoticed by many, sparked a realization in me. If her unique thumbs didn't define her, why should mine define me? It's a journey towards self-acceptance, but I'm getting there.

I’m 31 and I have also stopped wearing copious amounts of makeup. For a special occasion I’ll do eye shadow, but for the longest time I thought I was I ugly unless I had my eyelash extensions, eye shadow, and winged eyeliner on. One thing I never got into and I’m grateful for is foundation, concealer, bronzer, etc. I do use blush and highlight a few times a week, but I’m so happy I never covered my skin with makeup. I’m a travel nurse so I’m constantly going to new hospitals. The average age people guess for me is 25. My skin is smooth, no redness, and rarely do I get a pimple. I really think it’s because I let my skin breath. Obviously there are situation where no matter what someone does they have skin issues, but for my not using foundation and eating healthy 80-90% of the time has done wonders for my skin!

@LotusesGalaxyOcean11 ай бұрын
There are two less invasive options I know of for filler and botox if you are interested. Sinoxin is basically a milder topical botox type product. It does work. Also, medicube’s mesotherapy device used with hyaluronic acid will plump your skin. If you research mesotherapy in k beauty you will find out what I am talking about. It will obviously all be milder in results, but it also has less risks too.
@Bakerygo11 ай бұрын
Tanning beds cause extreme damage to the skin. If I were you I would visit a cosmetic dermatologist to see what treatments can reverse the existing damage. You might not need fillers and botox after that. Also alcohol dries out the skin and makes it look dull.

I love my short nails, they’re manicured and well looked after but I hate long nails on me. Acrylics and Shellac etc.. ruin your nails, the drill bars make your nails paper thin. So glad you’re happier now! You are glowing xx

I'll tell you how I handle beauty treatments. I do a cost-benefit analysis. Working out? Great for your looks AND your health. Your clothes look better, your skin looks better. If you're healthy enough to do it, it's a no-brainer. For me, nails are a lot of effort for very little payback. I don't think most men care about nails either. So if I don't care and they don't care, it's too much cost for the (limited) benefit in my eyes. That's just how I choose to look at these things! I try to put more effort towards the things that yield the greatest results (or obviously those that I enjoy the most).

I'm my twenties my only beauty treatments were anti-aging moisturiser, suncream if it was sunny, cleansing my face and getting my hair cut and highlighted once a year. I liked good quality makeup, but didn't wear or buy a lot of it. I removed body hair every one in a while, but never had a lot of it. I wasn't beautiful, but cute, pretty to some people and fairly average looking and i was mostly happy with that. That was pretty much it. I'm glad i was able to enjoy my twenties without obsessing about my looks. I think I was born at the right time, to miss the unrealistic beauty standards we have now, although I did crash diet because thin was in back then. I didn't mind being that I i thought was chubby too much though. Looking back i was a size 12 most of the time so not chubby like the media and beauty industry would have me believe, just a healthy weight. In my late 20s and early 30s i started using retinol and vitamin C. I looked about 5+ years younger than i was until the age of 38, which i think is down to good genes. After that i started to notice a lot more aging. I now wear a good SPF 50 every day and my only regret is not doing that from a young age, although i did always protect my skin from the sun during summer to some extent. I got much more in to skincare in my thirties. There was a lot less of it around when I was young and i couldn't afford the expensive stuff. In the last few years up to my forties I've put on weight and really started aging. I've considered all sorts of beauty treatments, but I've had a chronic illness for a decade now so have been scared to do anything that could make me more ill or where something could go wrong. It also makes it hard to lose weight because I can't exercise much. I would get Botox and fillers if i knew nothing would go wrong and i could afford to keep getting it done. I do get down about my looks these days, but my health is my number 1 prority. I don't mind my wrinkles, which aren't too pronounced, but slight sagging skin, loss of volume in parts of my face and brow furrows bothers me a lot more. I do use candles around my dog in moderation, but usually sand and paws candles, which as far as i know are dog safe. I only use them in one room, which she is free to leave and go for natural waxes or essential oil ones that i know are safe for dogs.

I'm only on number 3 right now, but I just want to say like...certainly with your hair, you don't NEED to do anything with it. I have extremely dry hair and skin, and my hair is curly and kinky and becomes a knotted mess if I don't maintain it, and really, if I don't straighten it. I am autistic and pregnant. I also already have a toddler, and I'm suffering from really bad depression right now, and straightening my hair once a week when I am able to even make it into the shower takes a lot fewer spoons of mine than going through a curly girl routine, and it keeps my hair from looking like a knotted cloud.

My stomach feels great now, also I don’t eat anymore any candies or junk food like snacks. As well people should when they feel truly hungry not because they are used to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. I always eat breakfast but usually skip lunch cause I am not hungry. It was hard at first because I used to eat lunch out of habit but now I only eat if my stomach growls. Sometimes I can skip breakfast and eat lunch. Now I am not on traditional Keto diet but on a limited one. Of course once a month I allow myself to eat something sweet but overall changing my diet really helped my body.

We have been speaking for months about trying a particular anti aging peel because I can’t do facial needling right now because my skin has been problematic So yeah I totally trust her.

So approximately $20k-$30k USD per year for that beauty routine (and not all of it?) . My likewise outcome routine is $1.5k USD per year for all products. I'm 39F, with long wavy/curly hair, and light olive skin. In my experience : Sleep, lowering stress, light yoga, Zinc SPF, drugstore cerave and korean skincare, some cardio or rowing, nutritious foods, and acupressure massages will accomplish way more than these overly touted treatments. That's a lot of top notch food, massages, tempurpedic mattress, fewer work hours, holidays, and boutique gym memberships are all way less expensive than that route. Due to watching Caroline Hirons, I know more than enough resources for cream and serum based answers to aging skin. All of those aggressive and expensive methods look way less effective than the drug store/boutique /korean options that work incredibly well for me and some dermatologist creators. ❤Great video ❤

I tried the nails thing. I had shellac. They did look fab but it’s so much upkeep and I realised most models and actresses have neat nude nails. Frankly those long acrylics look pretty tacky. I had Botox once for my son’s wedding and I am not sure it did very much except make my smile look odd. Ever had fillers because my face has always been quite full. Procedures I do like are lash and brow tint and lash lift. As a blonde they make a big difference to my unmade up face. I had VBeam to broken capillaries and that was a year of appointments every few months and done for life. Definitely worth it. When I can afford it IPl and Fraxel are excellent and worth hundreds of expensive creams. I have used sunscreen and tretinon for decades. Just add extra moisturiser if needed. My major face changing expense though was getting a dental makeover. I had awful teeth and spent four years and so much money getting it all fixed. Makes a massive difference and is also a health issue. I dye my own grey strip on top of my head. Salons always want to do complicated stuff. If you can stay lean and fit and supplement estrogen when the time comes those three things make all the difference. Health and hormones change everything, even nails and skin. I Oh and I had cataract surgery and they replaced the lens with prescription strength. No more need for contacts and glasses. My eyes look better for it. The redness slowly faded. I don’t look 20 anymore but at 70 I never mention my age and everyone assumes I am twenty years younger.

I stopped burning candles and incense when I adopted my 2 kitties in 2020. I LOVED candles and incense but I love my cats more and their health is important. Also I cut off all my hair (actually buzzed it off) about 6 years ago because I was so damn tired of dealing with it. It was thick and wavy and I hated it. Now I have a super short pixie and it’s my natural color (dark grey with a little light grey). Also the other day I decided I’m going to stop wearing nail polish and just take care of my natural nails and cuticles. Also been making changes to my makeup recently. Stop what is trending and just do what is pretty on ME. Lots of changes! 😂

I don’t do hair products/styling. Ive got psoriasis, and that buuuuuuuurns if you’ve got an open wound! The only thing I do is dye my eyebrows at home, maybe 1-2 times a month. But if my skin is upset when I want to do it, I just don’t. My skin is very easily upset (hello psoriasis) and it’s not worth it for a bit more colour in my already pretty decent eyebrows.

Hi Caitlin, i hear you, but never say never. Honestly at 30 i even didnt think about any procedures, all i care be extremely fit, tanned beach girl😜. In later thirties, i discovered raw vegan lifestyle. So no chemicals were coming near me or my house. All the way to 47 , i was using raw vegan like 5 ingredients skincare. But suddenly evetything started changing, my hooded deep set eyes started becoming more hooded, and dark circles, also my one eyebrow started really overact, like 2 inches higher than another😳😱. Also i always had kind of flat bend forehead😝, so here me, swearing never ever , went to get first botox. Hated, had bad reaction, but eyebrows adjusted . So 2 years later , last year, i tried again dysport, and it was good. I did minimum. So yes i dont mind once to twice a year for now, now the filler, the only one i am interested its biostimulators, those make your body to produce collagen. And now, the technology is amazing. There are prf and prf gel, thats absolutely your own stemcells , no looking crazy un natural. Its purely you but better, as you age…. So i am putting a plan for next year, to get those done. I mean i prefer to save money from shopping, to invest in myself…. I always was very confident, how i look, but honestly, the aging bother me…. So i am not going to go crazy, like i hear some women, no judgement, but they spend more time in recovery, than enjoying life. Thats not me. I dont mind little things, but i already had huge setback, with my husband’s paralysis, i am ready for his recovery - med beds, travelling. .. i did microblade etebrows and lips. I love that lips always look pink, no lines, shsrp lines, although the last time, i did 3 years ago. Same with eyebrows. Now i dont mind to do it again, because i am blonde and i barely have eyebrows, so for me is great. But i dont think that here, in US, atleast SF, we have great specialists, so i will get done, when i go to Moscow. They do amazing like art work… dont even mention eyelash extensions 😂😂😂 what a waste of money. I did probably for 5 years…. Its nice, especially for someone who has hooded eyes, but ah i could done some great antiaging procedures, or bought some Chanel. I dont even want to think how much i wasted 😫😫😫 never again. And it damaged my eyelashes. Fasting is great if your mind is into it. Drinking coffee and 0 sugar drinks, sounds like forced…. I do fastings, mostly 16-18 hours. Body adjust, if you prepare your mind. Now i am not forcing , if i get migraine, everything goes out of the window, even healthy food. I always have some baguettes or bagels in the freezer, because thats the only thing i can eat, when migraine hits. I get really bad ones, with nausea…. But fasting is not bad, is actually longevity. The less callories, we consume, the longer we live… in my 20’s i used to do healing cleansing fastings- 30 days with distilled water only. Its amazing feeling. The hardest are first 72 hours, after that body switches into cleansing mode, and do not send any hunger signals, to your brain. Have a blessed day🙏❤️

Seriously? You do know you yourself are made out of pure chemistry and also even if you grow your own food soil has chemicals that plants need to absorb to grow. What is this obsession with Americans and chemicals? The air you breathe is chemistry, the water you drink is chemistry everything is chemical. Also plants are alive as well and want to live, but you think it’s ok to eat them and take away from bees, birds and herbivores but not honey? Veganism is a joke and hypocrisy
@giedrebey544410 ай бұрын
@@hardshell9236 i think you should calm down, first and foremost i am not American. I borned and lived in Baltic country , where we had everything done from scratch, and chemicals gavę me alkergies, mening skincare, and especially cleaning supplies like bleach! FYI food grade 33% hydrofen peroxide is as powerful as bleach, only not damaging to your health. Also you do not understand, chemicals what they put in your food, water, and other things are not natural. Its done on purpose, to depopulate…. You need to study and research more, before jumping on responding. Have a blessed day and stop judging or worrying what other ppl do. And what i love about my new country America is FREEDOM OF CHOICE! And FYI plants do not need pėsticides to grow🤣 have you ever grew anything . Moved to Australia from Ukraine in 2020, and that's how my no-manicure journey began. Australian manicure artists just completely suck. Not only they're not able to do even shellac coats, even cuticle removal is a torture. Absolutely useless. It also costs 4x from Ukrainian prices. So eventually I had to completely give up on doing my nails🥲 This year I finally came back home, and suprisingly, I don't want to get my nails done anymore. Even though our manicure lasts up to 6 weeks - just don't want to spend those $20 and 3 hours

The rest you talked about- is about beauty, intermittent fasting is much more about health - this is not in the same box as acrylic nails. Some people choose to be limit red meat consumption for example - would you consider this the same as having Botox ? I doubt …

Helloo! I just saw this video and it’s from 10 months ago!!! But still wanted to share my experience as a 41 y/o half Venezuelan half French. First of all I live in Caracas but all of my Venezuelan relatives lives across the US. On my mother’s side I only have elder relatives and they all live in Paris or Avignon. So here are my beauty mistakes and tips…
@lecm011113 күн бұрын
I grew up with my mom in Caracas she was the one who tough me beauty comes from inside. I maintain the way I eat. 1. Have a lot of infusions. And best quality coffee (black without sugar) just in the morning 2. Drink water with every meal and in between. 3. I rarely buy food at the supermarket. We hv here small trucks from farmers, every day and every where so I go to buy everything fresh there. 4. It is really easy to have a Mediterranean diet here. 5. I don’t do snacks. If I get hungry I eat “dátiles” or seads. 6. We never had Coca Cola or ate a lot of sugar so I don’t have that craving for snacks. 7. I don’t drink alcohol except from rum (typical from Venezuela) or Champaign in a few occasions. For skin: 1. I wash my face with mineral water. With a neutral ph soap. 2. I go to the dermatologist since I had my first pimple. 3. I think less is more so I always used the expensive best brand for me for beauty routine (I am using only 5 products including Sun screen). 4. We go for more natural looks and prevention treatments (not including Botox or fillers) I go every month to my dermatologist and her esthetic assistant, and follow her instructions. 5. I don’t like getting tan. I’m too white so my skin turns reddish. 6. I normally use a soft concealer with UV protection, a cream blush and mascara. If I go out at night I have to different shades of lipstick. (Less is more) never ever tried the contour make up. 7. I also have thin hair. I wash it every two days with only baby shampoo. I always use the hairdryer but just to dry the hair! Im a brunette, always being and I haven’t had my first gray hair thoug I have a few gold baby lights. 8. Now I don’t use anything to change or polish my hair style witch for Americans and Venezuelans is a bit messy. I sleep with a hair braid. 9. Short nails. Classic manicure and narural color. 10. The only sport I like is swimming so I do it 4 times per week at 6 am. I don’t go to the gym. 11. I haven’t done any plastic surgery. My mom had just one at her 60’s she went for a face lift extremely natural to improve her look not to look younger. By doing all this, most people perceive me much younger than my age. I practically have no wrinkles, I’ve only had to do diet two times in my life. I eat what I want but always have a balance. The only beauty treatment that I’ve done is laser for hair remover (bikini line and under arms). Ooh and.. 12. I wash my teeth as many times as I can. I had braces as a kid and I only use invisible retener for sleeping. I don’t like the look of extremely white and “perfect” teeth. So for us, less is more, beauty comes from inside, go to dermatologist not to esthetician, we prevent what we can without fillers or Botox (the always have some unnatural finish look), try to improve your look not changing anything you have born with, stop avoiding aging, just keep in Mind you can look amazing at any age. And try to keep your original features or do the most natural look surgery if you feel you need it.

Fasting to me is relatively easy. I don't eat breakfast and only eat lunch at around noon. My dinner is at 6-7pm so that's around at least 16h fasting. I don't do it for dieting purposes though. But not eating lunch until 2pm would be too much for me.

Filler I also get, in my cheeks, I like the high cheekbone look and I like got get my lips done too. I'm very satisfied with my appearance and always want to look my best. You're probably still too young but once you start getting into your mid-30s you might reconsider.
