ViolentVixen Especially with Yokai Watch and Pokémon. 😂 they clearly don’t understand that these types of games/shows are very popular in Japan. Quite a bit of manga/anime takes what’s mainstream, and incorporates it into their own show in order to get a season. Making manga is tough, especially making your own type of manga, most artists are forced to go mainstream if they want to get a season because making your own genre has a high chance of failure unless you’re amazing at it. There’s Harem which is all similar, fighting which has similar structure, etc. and Pokémon, Digimon, Yugioh, the types of anime where you either capture or collect different creatures to use in fuels of any kind is extremely popular.

Okay, you guys did not do your research, because Yo-kai Watch is not a rip-off of Pokemon. While both are part of the greater "monster collecting" genre, Yo-kai Watch is about spirits who possess people and cause trouble, and there's only a select few people who can see them, and it's up to them to befriend the Yo-kai and stop the trouble. It has no nothing like gyms or badges or even any sort of competition between different people with Yo-kai(because at the current point in the Japanese series, only 3 people even have a Yo-kai Watch), and there is no emphasis on actually trying to collect them all, but rather it's actually about life lessons and teaching kids how to solve their own problems, because the concept of the series is that for all sorts of problems in life, there's a Yo-kai to blame

For Yo-kai watch, you're forgetting that (in Japan) it had an anime running for over 3 seasons with 214 episodes total, 1 spin off animation series with 14 episodes as of July 9, 2018 4 movies and with the first 3 games, having an average of 1.816 million sales on launch week, 5 main series games with a new one this year, about 11 spinoff titles, 6 of which being mobile games and countless everyday items being themed based of the game (toilets, lunchboxes, cups etc.) Calling it "quite popular" is quite an understatement. Also, "hit them against the yo-kai belonging to other characters"? Do you even do research on this stuff? Exactly, although I would say there one is rip-off that they did tweak. In Dexter's lab the mother is the housewife and the father works, but in johnny test the mother is the breadwinner and the father is the stay-at-home. Honestly though it could just be that they wanted kids to see a different perspective of gender roles, This is just a theory i'm making.

That is a fair point that the two are very different but yokai watch is still technically a rip off of pokemon.
