Hi I just found your channel yesterday. October 21,2021 right before we get ours. I wanted to know what type of doodle do you have and what type is your moms? We are getting a medium size F1B. We were recommended that due to allergies and shedding.

It's VERY important to not only reward with treats. If you reward with treats too much then the dogs will expect treats every time, and some dogs may ONLY listen to you when you have treats. So it's important to have a good balance between praise and food rewards

I thought I was being a terrible dog mom for letting my 8wk old puppy have “alone time” but glad that you suggest it Rachel. He’s actually been really good on his own so this makes me feel WAAAY less bad about letting him have crate/play pen time!

@@RachelFusaro Hey Rachel my family bought a Shih tzu puppy not too long ago but he has been getting into problems where he eats his own poop or other dogs poop during his walk. Do you have any suggestions or tips?
@jackthefunshack8618 Жыл бұрын
@huykicks3213 my puppy tries to do that too (wants to eat EVERYTHING, especially early on, it's lessening now). Use your leash to get him away from what you dont want him to pay attention to, and train "redirection" and we do this with a clicker trainer. Start by training the clicker inside your house for no distractions (click and when puppy "looks" in response immediately give high value treat). Do this many times to condition him to the clicker. Then later when outside use the clicker to redirect him from undesired things, when his attention is on the treat you just gave him then quickly resume the walk in the direction you want to go. We have to use the clicker to redirect him away from other people & dogs as well, because he whines and WANTS TO MEET EVERYONE, even if they don't want to meet him 😂 so anyway the clicker redirection is really helping us with redirection.

Thank you for making these videos and for saving all the damn dogs. It is because of watching your videos that I finally decided to start fostering. I am now on my second foster puppy (the second was adopted in 13 days thanks to Facebook networking). It is definitely tough sometimes but so rewarding. Both of my foster dogs were rescued by a rescue group from a high kill shelter in West Virginia. I have even gotten my kids involved in the process and even though it is hard to say goodbye, they love that they are literally saving these dogs' lives and are so proud of that. The training tips from your videos are super helpful in the process too! 💖

Thank you so much rachel, i had it in my mind that i wanted a velcro dog, but i realise now thats a bit selfish of me, i suffer from anxiety and general bad health and im having to give up my career in breast services which is heartbreaking for me, but i feel getting a pup now that im gonna be home so much is a great idea and will help with the anxiety of the change and help me to still feel useful to someone! But the last thing on earth that i wiould want to do is create a situation where my dog is upset if im out of the room or had to go somewhere without him. Im really going to take on board your advice and let my pup self sooth for short periods even from the start when i get him home, i have anxiety myself and i would be beyond heartbroken if i made my pup suffer from it too. I find your videos really soothing, i can see the love that comes from you and love your dogs. Love your mums dog and finnigan! If I am taking my dog out every 1 to two houses to use the bathroom. Does ur guidance mean I do Not need any potty pads at all? I guess Incase of emergency or me being gone for a long time! Do I just trust the process with a crate with no potty pads. At what time do I start not taking the puppy out at night or cut back to 3 to maybe 4 times taking him outside instead of every hour?

Try lauring them with a treat having your hand touch the ground with the treat nearby their nose. Or you can gently push their back while they're sitting, with both methods add the command 'down' then reward.

It didn’t even take me ten minutes now if she thinks I have food she sits and waits looking at me she’s still not particularly good with the word sit and touch but in fairness she just had surgery and it’s day one she did have an accident but I should’ve caught the signs was ready to go and it’s pouring outside but so far these tips worked extremely quickly

Hey Rachel--thank you for creating such awesome videos. I've learned so much binge-watching your channel! I'm adopting a 2.5 year old Alaskan Malamute rescue this weekend, who loves cats, treats, and people--but isn't crate trained. We have two cats, one is 5 years old and thinks he's a dog from having spent plenty of time with dogs, and another who is a year old and hasn't spent really any time with dogs. We live in a two bedroom condo-style apartment, and the anxiety I have about disrupting my younger cat is compelling me to reach out to you in fact. The way our apartment is set up, there's really no feasible way to keep both of our cats separated from a 90 lb Malamute when they've been running the roost around here for years. We could keep them separated for a day or two, but that would require keeping our cats in a room. This is something I've considered, but in a way feel it may not be fair to give general roaming rights of the apartment to the new comer over the current residents. Plus, they've never had a dog in their space before--they've stayed for a week at a time here and there at their grandma's house with 2 Bernese Mountain dogs. By the end of the week, our younger cat would lay within a few feet of the dogs. I'm putting gates up on all doors leading to rooms that extend off our open-concept living room/kitchen and we have several tall cat towers already for our cats (2 in the living room alone.) We're getting a crate and will begin crate training him day one (thanks to you!) Do you have any additional tips for helping make this crazy-exciting and also nerve-racking transition as smooth and LEAST stressful for my babies as possible? I really don't want them to resent me or our new dog, or for their personalities to change because we are saving another animal by bringing him into their domain. I would appreciate any pointers!! Thank you again for creating such helpful and anxiety-easing content. I'd be a mess right now had I not found your channel.
@frostellebuilds90853 жыл бұрын
I'm surely not Rachel but, after crate training you should try a playpen so your dog has only this section of your place for them self. But once your dog has settled in you should expose them to your cats' it'll be good for socialization. Here's a video on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5mXYmysjNSSl9E
