so 10 years ago, before pet ownership got so commercial, we used old muffin pans as "slow feeders". And i prefer the aesthetic of that over a brightly coloured bit of plastic. you can get them in thrift stores pretty cheaply. I'm loving your tips. we are now on Round 3 with a new puppy and i've never done crate training before, but will do it this time (I don't have 3 little humans to care for as well this time so I've got more time to devote to this puppy)

@@---om5vg not sure what this reply has to do with OPs comment, but actually, if your dog is getting a bunch of psychological issues from being crated, then you're doing something wrong. their needs aren't being met, they weren't properly introduced to the crate, they stay in the crate for inappropriate amounts of time-- all of which is the owner's fault. crate training does wonders, but it's not called 'training' for no reason. a dog who was crate trained properly uses their crate as a safe space, and all dogs should be properly crate trained when they are puppies so they don't get into trouble while you're away or asleep. it's 100% a must have. i know it's been three months, but could you cite your sources for me ?? where are the studies and proof ? what were the conditions that the dogs were in ? what about their owners? it doesn't happen for no reason.

We fed our dogs Heritage Ranch dog biscuits, pumpkin, bananas and apple from HEB ( Since your from Texas, I know you are familiar with HEB) They contain no artificial colors or flavors and no corn or soy, but now I’m questioning whether we should feed them to our next dogs. I also liked that they donate 1% of proceeds to animal shelters. Unfortunately we lost both our dogs in less than 1 month. Our hearts are broken and empty for now. Knowing we will be getting at least 1 more dog if not 2, we’ve been doing a lot or research on pet foods, treats and training. We want to do the very best we can for our new fur babies. We’re retired so feeding raw is not in our budget, but with the help of your videos and others we will add healthy toppers and feed healthy treats to the best food we can afford.

We purchased the puppy playpen and it was an easy assembly. However, the latches may be questionable as our 7 week old puppy pushed it half-way open and got his head stuck which caused some terrific crying not just on his part. I am writing not out of criticism but out of concern. The latches, i believe could be tighter so that they do not wiggle. We enjoy and appreciate your videos as they provide encouragement and instruction. Thank you.

@mitty81453 жыл бұрын
personally, i wouldn't suggest crates like the one she is using for wally if your dog is going to be a medium-large breed and you are planning to use it when he gets older. i have a husky and i used an "ugly" crate in the size large i believe. most crates will come with a divider which you can use for when they're small and you don't have to go out and get a whole other crate (althought the "ugly" metal crates are cheaper, they can still be expensive). that's just what worked for me and helped me create a safe space for him that isn't too large when he was a pup.

It has been studied and proven that dogs can suffer psychological and "physical "problems from being crated. Including separation anxiety, eating disorders, depression, or hyperactivity, along with "muscle atrophy", hyperactivity, obsessive-compulsive behaviors like licking and chewing, and even the ( inability to form ). And it teaches children to be disconnected andq detached from the feeling's of animals feelings viewing them as things.

@@---om5vg my puppy no longer using a crate she is going outside now and on a pad by herself .. she is not saying to keep your puppy in a crate all day , it’s just a means to train them not to go everywhere in the house.

@@lolipopwaves4245 sorry I should've prefaced with the normal black wire crates. We got a crate cover (also amazon) and that helped with the "aesthetic" aspects of it. We didn't really care too much about the aesthetics

Hello, I just discovered your videos and find them extremely helpful and fun to watch. We are getting a new English Setter puppy at the end of December. I have some experience puppy training, but am trying to "up my game." What I want to ask you about is helping an old dog adjust to a new puppy in the house. We have a 10 year old great Dane. She definitely gets jealous and I'm trying to figure out how to comfort her when I'm training the new puppy and handing out treats for rewards. Is there a training exercise I can do with her, I guess "sit stays" or something while I'm working with the puppy? Any other recommendations for helping an old dog cope with and adjust to new puppy?

Thank you so much for the advice on raw hides. I’ve been feeding them to Maple and she has thrown up after I’ve given them to her. Those are going straight to the trash!

Rachel can you put the link to the bowl you have attached to the inside of the Diggs crate? I have the same crate as you and I’m trying to find a bowl where I can put water for my puppy, but the unique diamond shaped design of the Diggs crates has made it hard for me to find a bowl that would attach well to the shape
