10 Questions Answered About Anointed Items - Anointed Guide - Does Anointed Items Stack?

I was a bit confused about how anointed items worked in borderlands 3 since there are no indicators or tutorials on how they do things. So I thought i would ask myself 10 questions and do a bit of research on how this worked and show you the results. Here are the 10 questions:
1. Does an icon show when an anointed items buff is activated?
2. Does the anointed item need to be out or equipped?
3. Will switching from the anointed weapon to another buff the other weapons?
4. Does switching weapons cancel the buff?
5. Can Buffs be added from a shield and weapon of the same buff type at the same time?
6. Does two weapons with the same buff share the activation?
7. Does the action skill name have to match the action skill equipped if its in the same skill tree?
8. Does the anointed item buffs stack?
9. How long does the anointed buff last?
10. Is it worth it to grind anointed items?

Fr, I've had BL3 for a while but I'm just barely getting into it pretty seriously and so I'm researching and learning everything about the game that I can as far as the technical side and all the big channels I went to had nothing breaking down anointments and what they mean/do

That's some damn good info. Anointments don't work anything like how I assumed they did. You can get anointment that boost elemental effect chance on guns that don't have an element. I assumed that meant you only had to have the gun slotted to get the benefit. Like, you get an anointment to boost element chance but use another gun that actually has elemental damage. This testing means that guns can get anointments that literally can never trigger. That's just silly. Who thought that was a good idea? I can understand not wanting some anointments to stack. Like, having 4 guns slottted that boost damage by 300% each after action skills would be way overpowered. You can nullify that by just doing what League of Legends does and make it so anointments that are identical don't stack, they only trigger once. Also, anointments are inherently worse for Moze because her action skill cooldown is so much longer than everyone else's. All other classes can trigger action skills way faster. A flakk with a rakk build can have anointments up at all times. Moze can only trigger them once in a blue moon. I wish there were other ways to trigger anointments such as reloads, shield breaks, slams, consecutive hits, etc.

Honestly i couldnt agree any more with what you are saying. There are so many issues with how this system works and its never explained to you thats why i made the video. Anointed items favor amara really since her cooldowns can go down to 1 second. Moze cant really use them. Its tough. especiialy for how rare they are. A lot of good points for sure my guy. Some extra information that may be ussefull: 1. Annointments that give xx% bones elemental damage after skills end simply apply this element as extra damage. So a non-elemental gun can become both elemental and non-elemental at the same time (dealing 100% non-elemental + xx% elemental damage) 2. If amara activates phasegrasp (ot ties that bind) without targetting an enemy, she still gets the 'after actions skill ends' annointments to proc. Meaning you can proc your annointments for free. Now i still wonder if the "increases elemental proc change and damage" annointment does anything for non-elemental guns, for example maybe increase elemental proc change and damage of relics/skills/grenades/schield nova and spikes. Haven't tested it out yet.

Fracture is buggy. It doesn't register as Phaseslam, but the other augments all work for Amara. My guess is that it has something to do with the animation.

Finally, I was super confused about annointed gear. No indication that it is working confused me to no end. I have one specific question for you though, on Moze I have a couple auguments that go: 'On action skill end, the next 2 magazines will have 50% additional incendiary damage' - how does it work, exactly? When is action skill end for Moze? I use Auto Bear, so the mech stays. Does it activate when I leave the meh? Or when the mech expires? Or when he gets destroyed? Does it work if he gets destroyed? Does it even work with auto bear? If I never reload, is it permanent buff? Does entering the reloading animation count as a reload, even if I cancel it since some ammo gets restored? Or only if it actually loads the ammo? Gearbox did a very poor job of explaining those things. No visible indicator does not help at all. What about auguments 'While auto bear is active...' it works only when I'm in a bear? Or is exiting auto bear still bae as well?

Thats a lot of questions. But its simple to answern these are all centered around when your cooldown begins. So for "during" its until your cooldown starts. For "after" its once your cd starts. And for the 2 magazines one. The bonus damage will proc until reloading twice. Lastly, idk about entering and exiting the mech. Im not sure if that will stop the proc. I assume it will since you gun wont be equipped technically.

For those that haven't figured it out yet, the good roll items are the ones that say After Action Skill increase weapon dmg by 100% OR After Action Skill increase dmg to Badass, boss etc by 125%. You won't have to worry about your augments, it works on any skill tree, and the bonus benefit every character in the game. Don't bother stressing over class specific items anointment bonuses on your guns.

You should have tried with Downfall skill as well. The anointed buff triggers with both Phaseslam and Downfall because Downfall is finished by a slam. Also, it's for balancing purpose that Fracture doesn't trigger the anointed Phaseslam items because it has 7 seconds less cooldown compared to Phaseslam (and I guess that's why Downfall is working too, because the cooldown is significantly higher than Phaseslam, so it doesn't allow players to trigger the anointed buff too often). regarding question 7: if you look at phaseslam it says the word "slam" in the description and is highlighted but fracture does not. it is because fracture doesnt have that word that fracture doesnt work but if you try for example phasecast with all its augments you will see that it does work that way. very odd they chose not to let fracture proc the phaseslam annointment but it is the exception not the rule.

While SOME of these questions get answered, your questions are not accurate enough to follow on a literal level. Question number two ON THE SCREEN READS: “Does the anointed item need to be out?” The question you SPEAK is: “Am I able to have another weapon out and gain the buff from the anointed item or weapon?” Are you saying “OUT” as in “WIELDING by hand?” Or are you saying “Out” as in “wielding by hand to activate that buff?” Or are you saying “Out activates the buff on the Weapon that’s out and no other weapons”? While your questions are not literal enough you leave them open to be interpreted as the wrong answers. So while people THINK you’re saying what they think is one answer it’s a completely different answer. So props for trying but this shit is NOT answering questions with literal answers. I think anointed legendary weapons are worth it, but only the ones that aren’t specific to a class. That way you can swap it from character to character depending on buffs and builds.

I've found most of the time this is def the case, 100% weapon damage and 50% random elemental damage are some of my faves ( got first one on my night hawkin, and a 50% rad dmg on a shocking aaa that works really well ) beside the 100% damage against enemies damaged by rakks since I'm running that build on my fl4k rn. also for amara all the 250/300% damage after using action skill are super nice to have but everyone does just fine with most anointed buffs on any good legendary, even on some purples like torgue shotguns and alien barrel guns absolutely shred

I had to figure this out myself and was let down. I was misled by the modifiers that increase Status Effect Chance on guns that actually have no elemental status effect. They really need to change that because it is a pointless annointment.

Another question: Item reads "anointed siren" Description reads "on action skill end..." Does that mean it works after any action skill for anyone or only when a siren's action skill ends?

Oh...so then anointments only apply to the weapon they're on. Well that's good to know, I can now unequip weapons I don't use. Cause I literally only have some weapons equipped for their anointments. Since I now know it doesn't carry over to other weapons. Like say consecutive hits on my bloom. I guess it doesn't transfer to my sandhawk so I guess I don't have to have it equipped cause tbh I don't like the bloom that much. Tho I will say now I've noticed shield and grenade anoints do transfer over to my weapons. Example I have an anointment on my grenade that says on action skill end deal 50% radiation damage bonus. Which I noticed does Cary over to my other guns for some reason.

But how about the anointed melee dmg on weapon and shield do those stack? Because with amaras melee build anointed weapon and shield melee dmg boost and all the melee dmg increase from skill and artifact and class mad I should be getting %515 melee dmg boost after phase slam and I don't see it at all. I don't know if there is a percentage cap on how much you can boost a certain type of dmg but 19k melee hit dmg after all that seems rather low AF

You should be able to stack between shield and weapon but honestly, melee is just trash. i havnt been able to find a way to make the build work yet. Ive tried 3 times now and i just dont see to have the proper items from it.

Honestly you shouldnt be depending on her abilities for anything but lockup and triggering buffs. All of her ability damage is sub par. If you can get the right anointed items with the 300% phase slam buff. You should go phase slam... there is no doubt about it. the 300% damage will override any negatives of the bad ability.

But at least phasegrasp combined with ties that bind is fun to play with, this phase slam is just boring and some of the other ones are even worse. Action Skills were super good themselves in the previous games, now they’ve been reduced to the status of things you activate to buff other things.

Are you serious.... u must have no god tier gear or weapons....Thats 3x damage u serious? U can use phaseslam and make it use the perks from other two trees. Ps your action skill doesn’t kill enemies your gun does. I have a 3x phaseslam annaxed fire lyuda. The patch, all modifiers stacked against me, and the boss could be fire resistant. I’m still one or two clipping any boss without immune phases. I would say amaras slam or cast is the second anointment best off 100 ase,. Some guns are down right broken with it. I have a flakker with 300 slam and it one shots truant. Every time.

Totally understand how you feel. i skip past most of the purple anointed items at this point. We have a place where we can get some great legendary drops tho. hoping to find a good anointed brainstormer. But the grind continues. They just scaled back how op purples were in the bl2 and presequel. Triple barrel Jakobs shotguns were nasty but won’t do much now in bl3

@@senpaigrayson2448 That's BS. I got an annointed sniper from vladolf with 300% damage on phasecast, it has shotgun mode, it does about 25% graveward / shot assuming no debuffs were applied with +31 dmg class mod. it almost kills him with 1 magazine

the game throws legendaries against your head all the forking time so where is the problem with this? i play on normal mode mayhem tier 1 and i cant decide what to keep and what to sell.

Have you had time to test this with other chars bc I have a build centered around gamma burst and am now curious if switching weapons even though they all have the same annoited perks will lose their buffs or if I get to keep them as long as gamma is active

I may do a part 2 with some more precise testing. But bank space has been an issue since i do gun reviews. Im going to crank out some gun reviews to unload my bank. Then start collecting anointed weapons for testing

I have a devil's foursum that has that +300% damage after phaseslam and it works when I have that augment on from the blue tree that gives me 30% of damage dealt back as health, so it works with augments that does not change the action of the action skill.. Edit: execpt that is kinda not an augment, is it.. have to test this with the augment where amara hovers on air making that beam attack and then does the slam..

That is an augment but not another skill in the phase slam tree. So it should work. If you do the beam one. Youll see it doesnt work

Lol i was using that augment for phasecast not the real phasecast and i still slaughters sahft solo mayhem 3 , i need to test it and if is true im losing very damage, and now i can delete my anointed face puncher with 250% gun damage (useless anointment)
