I've played Paladins since Season 1 and as someone who loved the game, this is just cope. Sure there might be minor thing or perhaps larger things you prefer, but the reality is, HiRez dropped the ball completely on Paladins. There's no point dwelling in the past playing a game that takes 20-25 mins to find a ranked game. Since MR came out, i've gone from daily paladins matches to not playing it since.

One of the things I liked about Paladins is the loadouts. I thought Paladins was fun but the abilities in Rivals makes the game way more fun to play. You can also play Rivals characters in different ways. You can play certain characters as frontline dps or you can play them like assassins. You can also get through Dr Strange's shield with melee attacks. Wolverine is a good counter to Dr Strange.

Another reason for me is the fundamental homogeneity of kit design in MR. An obvious example is the strategists ultimates having similar functionality of AoE high rate healing, and dualists ultimates fundamentally being hyper Burst/ DPS. While in Paladins, supports are actually bringing more differentiating utilities with their ultimates apart from grover and ying, and some dps like maeve and strix would bring hindrance to the enemies

I think Marvel Rivals, instead of having talents, have a lot of bugs or things that aren't supposed to work like that and that makes the character feel different and with more possibilities for different strategies. For example, Spiderman's bunny hop canceling the animation with the right click, or the E cancel that attracts enemies to you (without the right click) using the double jump which allows you to do a faster combo (E + DOUBLE JUMP to cancel the animation of the E + RIGHT CLICK and a downward punch to finish), or using Black Panther's dash looking at the ground to do a shorter and faster dash and thus end up closer to the enemy, not going too far and oneshotting him faster. Discovering those little mistakes makes the character even more unique and versatile. Also, in Marvel Rivals your character feels a little different if you team up with someone who gives you buffs, Wolverine and Hulk are fun.

-A 8 years old game has more playable character and skins than a 1 month old game ? No way . And even then, Paladins has more characters yes, but they arent all free like in Rivals. -Rivals heroes have more complex kit in general, and team up exist. They don't need an equivalent to talent. -For anti-heal, idk, maybe the game needs some way of mitigating heals, maybe a character ? -Rivals doesnt have items, but you can switch in any character you want mid match. -Horses or any kind of mount would feel out of place in Rivals. The game has swinging characters like Venom and Spider-Man, perma running character like Captain America, perma flying characters like Storm or Iron - Man. And be fr, having iconics heroes mounting a horse ? The game has a big emphasis on character fantasy and making you feel like you play these super-heroes, horses wouldnt align with this at all.

Despite having 1500+ hours played in Paladins, and being someone that absolutely hated Overwatch, I just disagree here. Paladins' biggest weakness was always it's unnecessary RPG elements making it extremely hard to teach a new player. Years and years of trying to get friends to try it out and having to explain what to build against what, and to tell them they should spend hours looking through cards to tweak their character turns everyone away. Even Hi-Rez themselves have recently stated in a Smite 2 Titan Talk that customizable cards was a bad idea and that their data shows that most players never used anything other than the default. On top of that, the maps have always been terrible. The fact that some maps had to get removed from ranked and rotate out because of how bad they are is a testament to that. Siege is a better mode than payload, but half of the maps are awful. Onslaught maps are better designed, yet that mode isn't taken seriously by the devs despite it playing worlds better overall due to the map design. Domination being a core mode in Rivals is another of it's strengths. Rivals is so much more approachable and fun to play with friends. I miss mounts and out of combat healing, but cauterize nullifying the effectiveness of healers has always been yet another sticking point for me. Rivals healing is overtuned because of a few of their ultimates, but outside of ults, it's a good thing that healing is strong, because it makes playing healers fun. Healing in Paladins is awful because you're always stuck hoping the retards you're herding will hide long enough for cauterize to fall off late game, or else you're putting yourself in a bad position to barely heal at all. My wife loves Rivals because she feels like she can contribute a lot to the team on healers, despite not having any mechanical skill and mediocre aim. She tried to heal in Paladins years back and quit gaming entirely for years because she felt like she couldn't do anything. I'll miss Paladins, and even have a Paladins tattoo, but I'm very happy that Rivals is as good as it is.

My biggest issue with Paladins for the last few updates has been balance. This future update seems even worse. It seems that the devs tweak numbers and features just to do it. The double edged sword in Paladins is the customization. The game is way harder to balance when there are so many layers like champs, load out, talents, item shop. I honestly like the constants in rivals because I know what I'm getting into. I (used to) love playing Paladins with friends but not any more. I'm old and hate the game changes.

Same, i really love paladins as well. They did good amount of things right; item system so "late game exist", loadouts/talents for role mixing, good amount of maps, horses, and the best part is drafting. Sure you may pick something that's completely countered and you just suffer but that's what makes it feel better design (rather than midway just swapping). *also no role lock like OW2 (yes ik there's open role in OW2 but tanks got debuffed so i cant really count it.), ik it's not in the topic but might as well list it as positives The only reason why it just couldn't grow imho, and reason why i kinda iffy, is polishing, as other said. Bugs, visual errors, lighting errors, rubber banding, chat system also buggy, even the menu UI is buggy. Unfortunately, despite being just ONE reason, it's a huge one. As someone who played since around... Mal dam'ba release? (2016 holy it's old. but i do play on and offs) I like how the variety of the gameplay improved, but god the bugs and lack of polishing just hit the abyss.

Yep, I agree that Paladins is a better designed game. The gameplay loop is better thanks to talents, items and cards. Furthermore, the game is more engaging due to the variety of combinations and matchups and the notions of game sense are way more challenging and complex, which for me, is a plus. Started since BETA console, still continue to play to this day. I don't want to follow a trend (I mean, just look at my pseudonym, I'm niche) and force to play a game I don't enjoy. Though, I do comprehend for a content creator that specializes in one or two games. If the game does not pull good numbers and you want livestreaming/video making be your profession, I understand. Marvel Rivals can also promote counterpicking since you can change character mid match like OW. It is probably even more encouraging than OW since I noticed you keep like 50% ult charge. I enjoy MR but i feel like it might be an issue for people in the future like how ppl dont enjoy it in OW, once people are familiar with all the characters. In Paladins you adapt your loadout/playstyle/items instead which can be argued to be more healthy
