When I first wanted a snake I researched the different kinds to see which ones would fit my budget and lifestyle and after 2 years I was able to rescue a 6 year old Kenyan Sand Boa from Craigslist. She went from living in a 5 gallon tank to a 20 with a bunch more stuff for her to interact with. Best decision I ever made and she's very docile! Great video!!!

@@nadineboger8512 The nuclear Kenyan sand boa morph is actually similar to wild-type morphs. It differs in that the nuclear morph has much brighter colors. The orange scales are incredibly stark against the black saddles, giving a molten lava glow to the snake.

Bast OC Ya. My parents do not like that either. But they are not expensive (unless you get them from pet smart or something.) And they are frozen to by the way. They are kind of gross and it is sort of gross as well but it is worth it. Don't lose hope on getting a pet snake. And you could maybe look at a Garter snake because you can feed them fish or worms too.

There will always be individuals that aren't big fans of it, and baby reptiles tend to be more defensive anyway, since they're so helpless. But I imagine they can always be tamed down with patience and effort, and handling them very early on and very often will decrease chances of an angry snake all the time
@sabzillagorilla
@sabzillagorilla 6 жыл бұрын
Most snakes don't actually enjoy handling, but some tolerate it. I have only ever had one ksb, my bby anery, and he has never gotten defensive or tried to strike. Sometimes he does get a bit startled and jumpy when I first take him out, but he always calms down. I would suggest not buying a snake that will be shipped. It can be very stressful, and you may never know the personality until you receive the animal. When I was first interested, I went to the vivarium near my school and handled some of their babies, they are very kind and open to people handling their reptiles. I really loved them all. They all acted pretty much the same as my baby, a bit jumpy, but they would calm down and just sit in my hand. I came back many times because they are just such cool snakes, and they're really cute. When I was ready to get one, I handled both of the two that were available. I got to take a good look at them, and got to know their personalities. I ended up choosing the 5 week old, a small anery. I would say the biggest issue I have with my baby is that he's a weird eater... he has gone of feed for about three weeks once, and sometimes he would just not care about food. Now he strikes and constricts (I give him f/t), stays coiled for a while, circles around it, and then I wiggle it again, he strikes it again, constricts it, and walaah, he is downing a mouse. I have done some research and it seems most babies will refuse anything but live, but they switch over quickly... looks like I have a unique case on my hands! I would definitely say that a ksb is a good snake to own!

I do have a Kenyan sand boa myself and they are the best snakes. There mostly calm but I have more of a jumpy one to say and he's been less jumpy now since I got him over a month ago. If you want the smaller pick males since they grow 1 ft and a little over that. If you handle them you have to support there weight and that makes them feel safer.

I was taught by a herp professor at UT that you never feed your snake in its enclosure! Why, routine feeding in their enclosure teaches your snake to be on guard and ready every time you put your hand in its home , meaning your snake associates your presence with food. Always remove your snake from the enclosure before feeding. Non venomous snakes I would recommend feeding outside there enclosure, but venomous snakes are harder to handle when it’s feeding time, but I do understand why almost everyone that has venomous snakes just feed them in there enclosure. Great videos tho!

i have a kenyan sand boa. he’s a high yellow morph. he is a lot smaller than yours, but he’s only about a year and a half old. i’ve never had a female but my male is super picky and sometimes will go up to a month without eating. i’ve taken him to the vet and he’s in perfect health, he was just used to live when the breeder had him so he’s always been picky with frozen/thaw. i think sand boas are super good beginner snakes because of their temperament and size. however i suggest getting a female because males can be picky eaters and they don’t get as big as females

Among the snakes 3-4ft or less like the Hognose snake, the Kenyan Sand Boa, the Rosy Boa, the Rubber Boa, and others, from research the Sand Boas are generally on the cheaper end of the scale, and are more easily found than the Rubber Boa, captive bred at least. With the normals in the $40-$65 range and the morphs and other Sand Boa species seeming to go up from there.
