Excellent presentation! One of the best, most recently, considering that all have been good information. Substitute BMW for the Mercedes Brand and the depreciation schedule is applicable, too. @@ECPP Yes, my selection is a 911. A turbo would be ideal and there are some great values on 996 turbos. But, for many reasons, I may go for a 997.2 or 991, non-turbo. I have yet to see how my surgically repaired back will deal with a clutch. My BMW and 4Runners are, obviously, automatics. I feel as though rowing through gears is the ultimate experience for a sports car. Long story short, there are physical elements that shall dictate what I select. Although the tiptronic is okay, from what I hear, the dual clutch transmission in the 991 is more desirable and fairly stout. My search just not just limited to Washington State. There are a number of different options originating out of California. I don't think I can go wrong with the 911, aloe I am not really enamored with the 996, regardless of price point, non-turbo.

@@thomashelm6931 I would pass on the TIP and spend a bit more even if its early gen 991 and the PDK which is much better IMHO. You seem to have an issue with Lexus hybrid. The whole battery replacement cost about US$4000. But nowadays, it can be repaired under US$1000 by replacing faulty individual cells. The hybrid components are warranty 10 years and 150,000 miles. Unlike European cars, you failed to illustrate that same components can fail multiple times within a short period of times. For some, time spent in workshop is longer than driving. Lexus is not perfect but I will definitely spend very much less on maintenance and repair.

Two things I've always been told... 1. If you can't afford to buy a BMW new, don't bother. 2. Unless you know how to replace and work on a BMW, you'll hate it the second you have the first issue. Because once a part fails, it goes downhill. Personally, I'll take outdated technology over innovation if it means the outdated actually works. There's a reason Lexus is behind BMW and Mercedes in technology. Not because they don't care but because they test it so much longer to make sure its reliable unlike BMW.

Modern Mercedes (made within the last 10-12 years) are far more reliable than older models, while Mercedes is not as reliable as a Toyota (Lexus) or a Honda, Mercedes has come very far compared to where the brand use to be in terms of reliability and dependability. In the last-10-15 years BMW and Audi have taken a nose dive and do not care about dependability.

Mercedes in general is a boring car to drive unless it’s an AMG or maybe even an AMG sport. Most all BMW M cars and even regular non-M cars are fun to drive than most Mercedes. Mercedes more luxury, BMW more sporty fun. Lexus generally fills the gap of blend of luxury and sport while retaining refinement in ride quality, durability and reliability. Both brands are great regardless. But Lexus ages much better than ANY brand if you want to talk used car market which most people are in.

This guy is very biased towards BMW and Mercedes, I dont even feel like watching his videos anymore. The fact is Lexus is just beter built than the germans, it just is, and they last a long time because it is a quality product. The germans appear to be quality but once you start to peal back the layers you see gery quickly they are built cheaply for instance some strategic BMW engine parts are plastic, the V8’s timing chain guide, plastic, alot of the interiour plastics are cheap and nasty. Do yourself a favour next time you sit in a Merc, sit in the back and touch the centr console, ita cheap scratchy plastic, which you would expect in a entry level Kia. You wont fine that in a Lexus.
@chriskragel64514 жыл бұрын
Appreciation is based on demand and original sticker price. Mercedes are priced high to retain exclusivity and indicate quality, which overwhelmingly, Mercedes do have above average quality. Every car depreciates. Some more than others. You should never look at a car as an investment. It is only a liability. The point is to simply get something you love and that safely transports you from one place to another. Buying a used Mercedes, especially after the 4th or 5th year, will help you bypass a good portion of that depreciation curve. As long as you get a dependable model and one with a good service record, you should be fine.

You should discuss how Lexus lost marketshare to Mercedes and BMW. Luxury buyers NOT in the market for a NX, RX or ES are looking elsewhere for their next vehicle. In the higher price segments, Lexus is becoming uncompetitive, the LS isn't as striking as it was before (No V8 engine), and the GX and LX are dated to their competition. GS became dated so quick, that they killed off sadly.

I watched up to 3:52 and I had to stop and say this. are you serious!!! It's the frequency of failure let alone the cost. and that 10% you're speaking of, I'm not sure if that was even accurate. on the reliability graph, Lexus sits far far up above all cars, and for a very good reason. Mercedes is nothing but a toy for the rich, that will fail you many times. I owned one and I know that. the C250 is the lesser evil of all, preferably to be built in Germany. and I wouldn't even recommend it for the long run because it has a $3000 part that will definitely fail after certain mileage. learned that straight from the dealership mechanics. With Lexus you really get what you paid for and it lasts forever without tearing holes in your pocket. ok back to the video.

Most of these ten items are true. Maintaining a used Mercedes is a very expensive and sometimes troublesome proposition. The thing to remember about depreciation and resale is that Lexus do depreciate almost as badly as Mercedes. But they are much easier to resell, as they are much better used cars. In fact, the best strategy is to buy neither car new, but to buy a used Lexus, which will be reliable, comfortable, long-lived and reasonable to own. If you must get a Mercedes, than lease it. The most reliable luxury cars rated by the Consumer Reports are probably the Lexus RX and ES models. But they are so boring to drive that you might as well call a Uber or Lyft instead. I also have many friends who used to own Lexus and Acura. Once they get a taste of owning Mercedes or BMW, they never go back to those Japanese luxury brands anymore no matter how much the cost of ownership or value depreciation.

I'm glad you did this video! Life is to short to just drive anything! I'm more on the luxury side of the equation, but I've really taken a liking to your Ftype R, and I've always loved a Bentley Cont Gt. Those two have surpassed the M6 that was on my radar. Any thoughts or suggestions?
@ECPP4 жыл бұрын
For sure Steven. The M6 is a wonderful car, but the Bentley is unsurpassed for Cred and they are wonderful. Only thing is they are a bit pricier to run than the Jag, but there really is nothing like them other than going straight up supercar. The F type R still has not gotten old and is an amazing drive with outrageous performance, sexy looks and a very substantial feel that is hard to match.

If you have skills and time to do diy repairs, owning a German car is certainly doable. If you go to the shop for tail light bulb replacement, prepare to pay through the nose. Lots of people want that luxury badge and can't afford repair and maintenance, which is a recipe for disaster. German brands cater to such posers by indtroducing budget luxury models at the low end of price spectrum. The Japanese brands statistically are more reliable compared to Germans. Just look at the cost of ownership. Japanese brands are more of a utility but each major Japanese brand has decent performers which with some minor tweaks give Germans run for their money (ls500, rdx, g35, q50, gtr, nsx etc). Japanese brands are no strangers to technology. All safety features come standard on Lexus and Acura while they cost thousands more if you get equally equipped German car. So the presenter is not completely honest. The message should be:. if you got the money, drive what you like. If you have a budget, prepare to compromise.

One will take you to 300k miles comfortably and one will get you to 100k possibly. You argue based on pure performance and physics but they target different consumers, Lexus is designed to last and Merc is designed to be enjoyed at the cost of reliability. Try arguing BMW vs Merc for a really valuable conversation, this is pointless.

I want to buy a Mercedes c43 2017-2018 but I like the 2019 cause they have the digital dash but I’m afraid if the digital dash goes out I’ll have to pay a premium to get that fixed and after hearing I might have to replace the twin turbos for $5000k might make me second guess buying the car, if anyone can shed some light that would be much appreciated!
@ECPP4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I say drive what makes you happy, including turbo cars, I always do. Just know how to maintain them, and that goes a long way to keeping them running a long time, and yet you will actually enjoy the drive. Cheers
@pfeamg96584 жыл бұрын
Not sure how much this helps as I’ve only had my 2019 c43 coupe for a year but I’ve had zero issues/zero maintenance $ with it. I ordered it and it was built in Germany (vs the US). Not sure if that makes a difference but according to the forums it does. German built = less issues better build quality. May want to check where the car was built first. The car had a 4 year warranty (three years left). Fantastic car, as Mark says drive what you like!

The only thing more reliable in a Mercedes is the rate of its failure and the cost to fix the problems that do occur. @southbayla31374 жыл бұрын
ExoticCar PlayPlace i play with the lane assist on my 2020 corolla hybrid while I drive and that’s all I need , it makes me feel like I’m in a bmw or Benz , when you get close to the lane slowly and the lane assist turns your wheel slightly . And trying to get max mpg while having a smooth , torquey ride in a lighter car is the best .
@southbayla31374 жыл бұрын
ExoticCar PlayPlace and also when driving and seeing expensive Mercedes and old bmw ‘s and Prius’s and Camry passing by I find it very very funny that I’m in a cheap car but i know it’s a better car because I’m saving more gas , have apple car play , instant torque , and not in a Prius !!!! So that is all very exciting on the road not the actual car , just the fact the car is unique , I’m not interested in Camry or Camry hybrids .

Why would anyone think buying a German made car with US Specs is a good idea?
@douglastaylor80394 жыл бұрын
Why isn't our government making all of these car companies fix these defects ?? These are known defects. The car companies know how to make reliable cars. How can you buy Premium cars but their parts and builds aren't premium. When it's a poorly made car it's never the car company's fault. It's yours
@ECPP4 жыл бұрын
You are largely right, but I still want to drive fun cars and the manufacturers know this and many others do too.
@RothBeyondTheGrave4 жыл бұрын
Fixing known defects isn't profitable. However, engineering failures in to happen at certain intervals is very profitable. It goes so deep. Mark pointed out 1 aspect of it here in the SA language regarding diagnosis in "during warranty" & "post warranty" periods. During warranty, "that noise is normal". Post warranty, "oh that's cylinder scoring. We'll go ahead & order you a new engine".
