These 10 Reasons Not to Move to Sequim are the most negative I could think of. Honestly, there are not a lot of gigantic horrible reasons not to live in Sequim, but one or more of these 10 could discourage you if you know you won't have these available in Sequim.

Sequim has changed dramatically in the last 32 years since moving here. One could get decent medical care, or one could drive to Seattle. Going to Seattle has changed for the worse. Geological isolation is now a big difference.

@@cmarunde why is Port Townsend ugly? I don't think it's ugly it's boring and I don't know how long it was you drove all around the peninsula here. I mean we do have the Puget sound and Townsend Bay where we get views of not only the Cascade mountain range but the Olympic mountain range and actually in the summer you can see all kinds of boats sailboats and even the cargo ships going through and that's not really ugly. You can go to fort Warden and look at the water I know that's not a Big thrill but it's not ugly. So you have to define what area of Port Townsend is ugly. If you mean Hadlock yes Port Hadlock is damn ugly. Well we just leave that alone.

Attorney General of WA, Bob Ferguson, is suing the Navy over it's 'electromagnetic warfare range' operations. The warfare games are conducted by all manner of aircraft above the skies of the O.P., and any exposure to the electromagnetic waves will result in nervous system damage and a number of medical conditions. Noise alone can be a factor in areas where these aircraft are active. But exposure can be deadly. Ferguson said: “The Navy needs to conduct its training but that does not relieve the federal government of its obligation to follow the law and avoid unnecessary harm to our health and natural resources.” Citizens have been directly attacked for supporting the Attorney General. Email: Brionna.aho.atg.wa.gov to express your support for the lawsuit, and watch and listen for aircraft activity, some are used to attack homes of those who support the lawsuit. This is a rare action that checks the power of surveillance capitalism kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnq7maGNitKArNk and the tyranny of NORTHCOM 'THE AMERICAN DEEP STATE: An Interview with Peter Dale Scott' where a legislator is making a decision in favor of the 'people'.

@cmarunde
@cmarunde 2 ай бұрын
Hi DeezLouize, I appreciate the logic of your comment, but I'll add another perspective. I moved here in 1994 and raised 4 kids here, 3 boys and a daughter. They all went through the Sequim school system and grew up and now live and work in other communities. But they were never bored, and neither they or their friends were prone to get in trouble in Sequim either. In fact, my boys were extremely busy with school and sports and church and our home life. My oldest, Jesse Marunde, played football in Sequim and later played a defensive lineman at MSU in Missoula, and later became the 2nd strongest man in the world at the Chengdu, China World's Strongest Man competition. My middle son wrestled at Sequim HS and later became a professional MMA fighter and wore 2 championship belts. My youngest son owns his own boat and is a very successful commercial fisherman in Alaska. My daughter graduated with honors in Sequim and in college, and now runs a major department at one of the largest corporations in the U.S. So if you ask me, this was the best place to raise my kids, bar none. I've been in Sequim for 29 years, and I still love it. I go visit my kids periodically. If anyone wants to know what I'm doing, go to one of my sites, irealtyvirtualbrokers.com/ or this channel or SequimBlog.com.

@@cmarunde not everybody was as lucky as you and your little ones. I can't say too many people came out of sequim as successful as Bristol. He was my older brothers age group and I was 2 years behind. It was pretty crazy seeing him on that TV show flipping houses in Vegas. But now I see where he got it from! Ya back in the mid 90s there wasn't even the highway going through sequim yet. None of those big stores either. Went from QFC to Safeway pretty much. I played soccer but other than that for actual fun activities only place was the boys n girls club. Then they put the first skatepark up. Idk I guess one of the many bad decisions I made in sequim was starting to Skateboard. Then hanging around bad crowds at half block. I didn't last too long as I got locked up at 11 years old til 14 when I finally moved away to the city.

I moved to Sequim 30 years ago because housing was cheaper, and it put me close to mtns and water for camping and fishing. Now the pendelum has swung in the other direction. A small lot with electric and water and nothing else runs 250k. If it keeps going up, I will be moving again soon. But lets face facts, if you have any serious medical problems, you would be better off to cross it off your list. The local hospital is poorly run, and patients suffer because of it. You would be better off closer to good health care like Silverdale or Bremerton. Even, Port Townsend, than going to the hospital in P.A. We did get a great Dr in town, but she left after she fell off of her horse and this hospital nearly killed her.
@cmarunde

I’m not going to say your experience isn’t valid, because I’m sure it is. On the other hand I’ve had a wonderful experience here over the 29 years I’ve lived here, and I know hundreds of people who have had wonderful experiences in every area that you mention. But I’ve heard other stories like yours where people had a bad experience with a doctor or a nurse, so these things do happen. Since I represent clients who moved here from all over the country and even from Europe, I can tell you that I’ve heard the same complaints from many other areas in the world, including Canada and Europe and, Alaska and Colorado and Texas and Florida and Hawaii and Nevada and Arizona and of course California. The truth is there is no perfect place in America or in the world. I had a wonderful visit a few months ago in Thailand, and the food was great and inexpensive, and housing is very affordable too, but there are so many other disadvantages, that most of us who live in America are not going to retire in Thailand. Every place has advantages and disadvantages, and some things are priced above average and other things are priced below average. Housing is not cheap in Sequim, but we don’t have a state income tax, our property taxes are quite reasonable, and you can live very inexpensively here if you want to have an organic vegetable garden and do some hunting and fishing and burn some wood in a woodstove. Again, there are pluses and minuses for every area, but it just so happens that many of us think there are far more pluses in Sequim than anywhere else.

@indigowolf556
@indigowolf556 2 жыл бұрын
You are definitely right about sequim. I live in Port Townsend I've moved from Central California to Port Townsend at least three times. Now I'm kind of stuck here due to lots of different reasons. When I first moved here Port Town was really cool it was very community minded people were friendlier they actually would help out a neighbor and they weren't so greedy. But now you don't even know your neighbor you don't know basically anyone if you go shopping and Safeway or QFC or anywhere and people are not friendly at all unless you're in one of those little clicks. It's very very expensive to live in Port Townsend because Jefferson county is more expensive than clallam county and they roll up the sidewalk at 5:00 except for a few handful of restaurants maybe where they have a bar . They have restaurants on water Street and some on the side street and some up on Washington Street but since the pandemic probably most of them have shut down or they can't find any help because people quit because of the pandemic so I don't know how those places are doing. But I do know there's tons of jobs here in Port Townsend but nobody wants to work in a restaurant anymore they don't want to work at the hospital anymore the mill or any type of job anymore so there's tons of jobs here but you still can't afford to live here. They have maybe like five apartment complexes there's probably two or three that are for senior and a couple of others that are for senior disabled and all the rest are subsidized family units and it's probably at least a two or maybe a 3-year plus weight. But that's all there is and Hadlock has a couple of apartment complexes but you don't want to live there. The management is horrible and that's how it is it's subsidized there's no regular apartment complexes that you would see in Kitsap county Seattle Tacoma or any place like that. some people turn their houses into apartments but good luck with that because rentals maybe for a one bedroom is probably about $1,800 two bedrooms are over 2,000 and three bedrooms are close to $3,000 a month so if you have $10,000 maybe you can rent a place to live in Port townsend. And then you have to put up with the people who like to speed and pass up four or five cars when the speed limit is only 40 but they feel this need to go 70 and the people who complain about the weather because they moved here from California and they a picture of Port Townsend and just moved here. Forgot about those people and then you have the people who complain about the military cuz they don't like the sounds of the planes and they wanted to stop. They don't like the deer or the coyotes that howl at night and they want that to stop they want to kill all the wildlife because they don't like it. And you have to know that if you don't live in sequim where there's a Walmart which is about 40 minutes from Port Townsend the other one is in poulsbo which is still 40 minutes and the closest mall is in Silverdale and depending on traffic I could take you an hour to get there because you have to go over the Hood canal bridge which sometimes is closed up for an hour for a ship to go through and you never know when that's going to happen. And for anything major type of surgeries or specialty doctors you have to go to Silverdale or Bremerton and go across the Hood canal and that's over an hour away so yeah you have to deal with all that so maybe you should really think about moving here. It's not what you think it is.

Aside from the lack of good restaurants, which isn't true, most of these are good reasons to move to Sequim.
@cmarunde
@cmarunde 3 жыл бұрын
@@chross0911 : It is true. For decades locals have been talking about the lack of good restaurants in Sequim. Everyone knows this. Many of us drive to Port Angeles or Port Townsend, both of which have a much larger selection of great restaurants. I drive to Silverdale to eat at the Olive Garden because Sequim doesn’t have anything like it. Sequim does not have another good lunch spot, Panera Bread. Silver City in Silverdale is great. Nothing like that in Sequim. Garden Cafe in Port Angeles is fantastic, especially with their Cobb Salad, but not one restaurant in Sequim makes a salad that good. The Cafe Restaurant in Port Townsend has a very tasty soup and salad specialty that no one Sequim competes with. There are restaurants in Sequim no doubt, just not nearly enough good ones. It's not a really big deal for someone liek me, because I don't mind driving a half hour to get to one. As far as your comment "most of these are good reasons to move to Sequim," that's true unless your the buyer I had who did not move to Sequim because there are no malls, or the buyer I had who had been a professional musician for 30 years and he did not move to Sequim because he just wakes up at 9:00 at night and everything is closed. I've had women clients who said they won't move to Sequim because there's no fine clothes shopping. I've been told by buyers that everyone one of these 10 are reasons they chose to live elsewhere. I didn't make these things up my friend. They are all true. For me personally, I don't care about malls or some of the other reasons, so Sequim is perfect for me, as it is for many others.

@@cmarunde anyone who views "olive garden" as good food is suspect in my book. Olive garden although tasty is commercialized and shouldn't be anyones basis for good restaurants. It's a chain just like Applebee's which happens to be in Sequim. What I noticed from my 3o years in Sequim is it use to be an amazing community to live in or raise your family in, but a lot of the people who migrated wanted the amenities of whatever busy city they moved from and change happened. Now its a small community trying to act like a big city and its lost its charm and the friendliness it use to have. Now there's a huge income gap between well to do implants and the service industry that serves them. Drug use has sky rocketed, crime has increased, jobs that pay well have vanished, and each side is blaming the other for the problems.

As for the rest of your description of Sequim-I don’t recognize it. You must be talking about a town in Oregon or maybe one in Colorado. I’ve lived in Sequim 26 years, and you have not described Sequim. Everyone I’ve sold a home to in Sequim is quite content and loves living here. But everyone who insisted on one of the 10 items in the video list, chose not to move here. I respect my clients who said Sequim is not for them. As my mother used to say, “To each their own.”

When were you last here dude? We have specialty clothes, there are amazing restaurants, who cares about mall, Silverdale is an hour away, Seattle is 2 hours, we live here because we hate the concreate jungle with their skyscrapers, there are at least 4 great Thai places here, yes-real estate is costly. It keeps the riff-raff out. Stay away, please, we don't want your type!

Yeah Every thing Shuts Down at 5P.M., Unless You Want to go Shopping at Midnight, Then There's QFC Not far from My House, or Wal*Mart at the other end of Town. Well there is The 7 Cedars Casino, But That's Considered to be on a Reservation. But Sequim Does have an Ulta Cosmetics Store, for women and Make-Up Artists such as Myself. Alright about the Mall, if You want The Shopping Mall Experience just take a Road Trip to Silverdale, And when your done Return Home to Sequim, Though I wouldn't Recommend it During this Out Break of COVID-19, We Do have Our Own Santa Claus. Well There is The YMCA, Which I still Call The SARC, But thanks To DONALD JOHN TRUMP and QANON SUPPORTERS IT HAD TO SHUT DOWN, BECAUSE THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN COVID-19! We Have Applebees, Black Bear Diner, But Yeah To Much of a COVID RISK! Well Sequim is a Small Town. As I said Small Town, Stop pushing it Chuck. We have a Thai Restaurant, You Just Didn't Look Behind McDonald's Chuck, But again To Much of a COVID RISK. IF WE GET EVEN A LITTLE BIT OF THE SUN PEEKING OUT IT COUNTS CHUCK, HA! Alright House Rates do keep going up That's What happens when REPUBLICAN QANON SUPPORTERS From the Sequim Community Church, Are Running your Town, And They just Fired the City Manager. You Didn't Even Mention Our Symbiotic Relationship with Port Angeles, WA Chuck.
