If you like the outdoors there is so much to do in all seasons from skiing to canoeing, If you like fishing its your dream state. Camping is wonderful also with 66 State Parks and a National park, so much to do here. Look up the boundary water canoe area and Voyageurs National Park and Superior Nation Forrest. Okay i am biased but it is a great state especially out side the Twin Cities metro area. Most people in the twin cities own a cabin up north on a lake and go there every weekend for a DE stressor. As a Minnesota native, I recommend looking at cities more in the St. Paul area rather than Minneapolis. The reason because it’s not a great neighborhood, and people only go to the cities for either Work or Sports games. Oakdale is not a bad place, I have had family and friends live out their and the only negative is that a lot of homes in the area are much older meaning it might require some home improvements. One concern we have is the black ice and ticks we heard there are many in the state. I was wondering how often do you come across them? And how do I protect my home from any coming in? I know we could rely on repellents like sawyers but wanted to see if I could get more information from anyone out there. Thank you in advance to everyone. (:

Black ice can happen in the right conditions though they salt the roads pretty well. I've never hit black ice (at least that I can recall). Also ticks are common in highly wooded areas. Scary like LA! Not I. I know a lady who grew up there and she hates it. One guy tried to start a fight with me 1 time as I said nothing to him he was from there. He was from that state. Restaurants seem good though.

May I ask where the state fair is located? I need to be near it because I live 10 minutes away from the Florida fair and I love it
@lifeinsandiego2333 жыл бұрын
Hello! The MN State Fair is in St. Paul right on the border of Falcon Heights. It is by far a favorite of Minnesotans including me!
@man0sticks3 жыл бұрын
You don’t need to live near the fairgrounds to enjoy the state fair. There are free shuttle busses that operate from dozens of park& ride lots located throughout the metro area. Pick a neighborhood based on more important factors.

Couple Tips: The Twin Cities is a clock. 694/494 is the outside of the clock. Hwy 94 cuts through the center, however one side comes out around 11 o'clock and leave out towards Wisconsin at about 3 o'clock. Hwy 35 is North to South and splits outside the clock into 35E and 35W. 35E goes though Saint Paul, 35W goes through Minneapolis. There is a short highway called 394. It goes from the center of Minneapolis out to 494 at roughly 9 o'clock. Saint Paul is "Good Block, Bad Block" in nature. Very mixed. Minneapolis is more "Good Neighborhood, Bad Neighborhood" . Best test of an area if you are home shopping is go to the local gas station and use the bathroom. If there is a key, get the fuck out of there and shop somewhere else. Our worst hood is NE Minneapolis. We stash our wealthy outside the 694 loop with a few exceptions. Plymouth, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, Stillwater, and Edina are more upper-middle class. Woodbury is kinda on the fence. Best kept 'secret' is anything along the Saint Croix. Bayport is MN's best kept open 'secret'. Same with Afton. If you are going to commute pay attention to where you live. You want to have the sun at your back when you leave for work, and again when you drive home. It is literally a 20-40 minutes difference in commute time. There are two Bow-String highways, 100 and 169 on the west side. They can be convenient depending on where you need to go. Everything inside the 694 loop is effectively controlled by an unelected cabal of lunatics called the Met Council. If you live inside the loop (and hell even outside of it) be aware you are ruled (not governed, ruled) by an elite group of nut jobs. Most of the time they are harmless except when they are on a trip and try to annex Hudson WI because "reasons". We tend to prefer political gridlock. The less the government does, the less damage they can do. We often, perhaps out of spite to politics, have a Republican House, a Democratic Senate, and a Republican Governor just, to be honest, fuck with the political parties. Any other gridlock combination is also common. Either that or we are so intrinsically fair and lazy we just grab a ballot and alternate between D and R so we don't have to bother paying attention. We do not, and will not apologize for Walter Mondale. We will never accept the North Stars going to Texas. Pannekoeken is a sacred spirit animal of the Minnesota, do not talk shit about it. Ever. The walls have ears. You will not hear loons until you get up past Pine City at least. Superior Wisconsin is adopted. The Flying Wedge will be your spirit animal 4 months out of the year. You will keep a flashlight, 3 packets of instant oatmeal, 3 blankets, a filled 2 liter of water, half full, in your car in winter. Preferably one of the packets of instant oatmeal will be inexplicably lodged under the driver seat. I strongly recommend a JetBoil in the car so if you get stranded waiting for a tow in winter you can, outside you car door, boil some water to eat said oatmeal. You will lament the loss of Big Boy restaurants regardless if you know what the fuck I am talking about. It is mandatory to eat at a Key's Cafe at least once. It is mandatory to eat at Murray's at least once IF you live inside the 694 loop. It is optional, but highly recommended to eat a pizza from Pizza Lucie at least once. Their Veggi Pizza (yep, I said it) it actually really good, and I am a solid steak and potatoes guy. For steak there is the 4Ms, Murray's, Mani's, Morton's, and Mancini's. Murray is cloth napkin fancy. Mani's is, prior to the smoking ban, an OG Cigars, Whisky, 20Lb Lobster, high class type. Morton's is a chain, but more respectable that a Ruth Chris. Mancini's is weird. You can be sitting next to a guy coming off a shift at a steel mill reeking of diesel for some reason next to a guy in a $2000 suit. simultaneously blue collar and white collar at the same time. Hope you like tomatoes. 90% of Minnesotan's go to Wisconsin Dells for vacation. You will be looked at with suspicion if you don't have a Wisconsin Dells story. Even more so if you have never been to "The House on the Rock". We do not have 'Sex Dungeons' in Minnesota. We have Love Cellars... There is a hidden Midget Bar in Minneapolis. Or is there? It is a very well kept secret. Or an inside joke, you decide. North Saint Paul has a giant snowman that is strangely popular with Japanese tourists... We have a lot of dark history, the legacy of Frogtown is just one of them. Catholics are allowed cookies, Protestants are allowed bars. Do not violate the treaty! We take Christmas very seriously. Make it your own, but do it with style. People literally plan road trips around town to look at people's lights. No sane person eats Lutefisk, we use it to scare away tourists. We do have a soft spot for Pickled Herring. That shit is awesome. Meat-Candy on a Ritz cracker. Be a hero at Halloween, skip the Dum Dums. Always help people shovel their driveways. It is the glue that holds the community together. Do ask, just start. Lastly: 60% of people who are born in Minnesota that move away, come back. There is nothing like it.

Hey David I have a dodge stratus 04 that sits low to the ground and im quite sure it wouldnt do well in snow. Do i need to trade in my car for a truck if i move to Minnesota because i also heard that it snows on average about 110 days out of the year. Im looking for a awd subaru for this harsh winters but i dont really know if i need it.
@lifeinsandiego2333 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Good question. To be totally honest it's personal preference. Do you need a truck or sedan with AWD? No. Will a front wheel drive sedan be okay? Yes. We plow, salt and sand the roads almost immediately so most cars get around just fine. If your car was RWD that would be a problem. I have driven Acura's and Lexus sedans with no problem in the snow. I only purchased a AWD Audi because I drive a TON for real estate and sometimes in areas that aren't plowed as well. And nothing is worse than getting stuck in the snow with clients waiting on you.

Moral of the story: stay away from twin cities. Reasons: 1. Short humid summers with mosquitoes. 2. Construction in summer 3. Winter is the problem So what else.... Jobs are great but money without life(living) isn’t. Find somewhere jobs and living conditions balanced.
