I am 63 and have been swimming since I was a little kid, and had swimming lessons in Jr. High. I wanted to lap swim for fitness and because I absolutely love the water, so I signed up for adult swim lessons to learn how to swim better. I had a great instructor and never regretted it a bit. I swim 3 x per week but am thinking about challenging myself to swim every day for a month, like one of his other videos! By the way there is an elderly gentleman who looks about 90 yrs old that I see swimming laps! He is a great inspiration! I want to be 90 and still swimming!

I love the feeling of being in water, the meditative aspect, the gratification of accomplishment. 😻 My mother was a swimmer, and was still teaching water exercise to a group of women in the pool at her condo 3 weeks before she died at 102. She swam a mile in the ocean just about every day going from her place to the pier and back. My hero. And I married a swimmer, so when he joined a masters team in our 50’s I did too. 😍 now I’m 77 and carrying on by myself.

FANTASTIC. great fir sharing this, bc shows that nobody should allow themselves to be limited by ridiculous preconceptions about aging. The fastest swimmer I encountered in one “Big 10” university was a 70+ year old woman who did not “look” the part of the extreme athlete, but when in the pool actually sped past male swimmers on the university’s top team. (THEY “let it go… her performance crushing theirs… bc the woman had won an Olympic medal when younger.)

Thanks for the reminder! I actually haven’t gotten in a pool in decades. I’ve been more of a kickboxing, Zumba, weightlifting, hiking, walking person. After suffering a concussion nearly five years ago, my symptoms are so severe, that I’ve literally laid around all day. I have moments when I can walk, or do Xi Gong, but without consistency. While my symptoms have improved, I’m now finding that nearly every attempt to be minimally active, causes some type of injury. It makes complete sense, because of having so completely inactive for so long. I’m so grateful for the reminder to take to the water! My community has a new recreation center, with a pool, nearby. I’m going to try swimming, because it will have the least impact, and I’m more likely to avoid injury. To the benefit of the pool being Zen, and a place that greatly reduces sensory input, it makes me think about us all having initially developed in a private pool. 😉 I’m sure the sensation of being in a womb, has some healing value to us! Thanks again for this video, because I forgot about swimming, when I saw similar videos a month ago. 🤕

I also never had access to a pool (hate gym’s indoor pool). I just moved into a retirement community that has a good pool that only about 10 people use semi regularly. First time in my life i am able to use the pool 3/4 times a week. It was wonderful to be in the water, so calm and relaxing. I am using tools to learn how to free style. It doesn’t feel like a workout. I often use the post drill float to pray and thank God for giving me this opportunity to be comfortable in the water.

I’ve swam for fun for years. I’ve started using swimming as part of my weight loss journey in May. During the gym shut down, I started running long distance. After 3 months of doing distance running, my joints started popping. They weren’t painful pops, but I started having pains I’ve never had and didn’t like the long term impact that I think it would have. So as soon as the pool re-opened, I replaced my long distance/HIIT running with swimming. I love it and will NEVER go back to running. No body pains, great calorie burn, and it partners well with my weight training routine.

This Wednesday was our Sprint day. When you have a swim everyday commitment you can see just how compromised [due to how well you attacked a given previous workout] you are currently. You clearly explained why swimming every day is good but did not do the comparison. Possible that I missed it and if I did miss it, please let me let me know where to find the answer to that question. Thank you for inspiring us all ! 🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️

Great question! The frequency of swimming really depends on your goals. This video talks more about the general health benefits of swimming every day. If you're looking for elite performance, then there's no question swimming 6-7 days per week is optimal because you're trying to develop your feel of the water to your body's maximum ability. For 'most people', they're not looking for elite performance so much as routine, physical and mental health. Swimming everyday can be great for this. If you're limited on time, then absolutely swimming 3x/week can still yield great performance and health benefits. It's a balance. If you swim 'longer' you're more likely going to swim at a slower average pace. Swimming shorter workouts more frequency allows you to maintain a higher pace...if that's what you're looking to do.

(freestyle) and I feel just fine (let the muscles recover during the weekend) Sometimes I wonder if I shall split the total distance on 7 days of the week but then whenever I do less than 1,750m a day I feel I‘m not done. Anyway, my Y cancelled all classes this week and it‘s a matter of time they close the pool so my concerns today might be irrelevant soon... Stay safe.

I love swimming because of all the people I’m with. When I go swimming, I’m thinking I can’t wait to have fun with my team. It’s also a great workout and is just so much fun.

I suffered a brain injury, 5 years ago, and had to be in a wheelchair, until recently. So, I got into swimming, as couldn’t run. I just started to run, a few days ago, so I love it MUCH more now. Swimming is better for muscle development, but nothing makes you feel, like you’re doing the impossible, like running. Maybe some people, have less difficulty running, but swimming still makes you more visually fit.

I am addicted to swimming. It makes me fresh and happy which can not be achieved by any other type of work out. I am now running 62 years. Kindly guide how much should I swim daily?

I swim 3/4 times a week and i never get tired of it because like any other sport it makes me feel better but also every single workout session is like a challenge to improve and swim better. Next year i wanna do my first 10k in open water and this is also a motivation. And as you say in the video, the best thing about swimming is that you get no injuries and you kind of disconnect from everything when you are in the water, it remains me about the sensation when i go to the cinema only that this is better because afterwards you always feel better, doesnt matter if the actors are good or not. Cheers!

I used to swim a ton as a teen and younger, but as an adult I've gotten depressingly obese. I just went snorkling in hawaii and realized I'm still pretty okay at swimming and will be joining the gym on Monday. It's the 1st thing since getting fat i feel like i can do and will be easy to stick with.

Many years I went to gym and I hated pool because I couldn’t swim 25 meters pool without to feel that I almost got a heart attack After that I injured in my shoulder I told to my self no more. Some friend suggested me to take a course of TI swimming and I listened to his advice. today I’m addict to swimming and find my self swimming 5 days in a week…the feeling is so wonderful. and you absolutely right in all of the facts that you bring in this movie. I couldn’t explain this better

I’m disabled with MS and with limited leg strength. I started swimming at first per my doctors at USC Keck then continued everyday because the endorphins got me hooked . I swim with a MONOFIN which is an equalizer for disabled person like me.

I feel good after swimming. It helps to keep building healthy body. Good to swim listening podcasts with swimming earbuds. The breathing in swimming help to calm down. It is a low impact sport that can last a lifetime. I try to swim 1 mile each time, after that it is bonus laps :)

I love to swim since very little. Now 64 and swimming 3 x week. Would love to fit in more sessions but no lane swimming available at weekends 🙄 Thanks for your very informative videos. They've certainly helped with breathing technique and stroke technique.
