I live in India and whenever I see someone looking at me then I always smile back and nod my head a little (idk it's just like a tradition or something in india when you want to greet someone but without any words then you just nod a little. To show respect) I always do that.

@@Miguel-ve1lh don’t feel like that, over time you learn that awkwardness is natural and happens all the time, you overthinking it though doesn’t help, you should never overthink any situations especially small ones like that because no one cares, especially that person that you looked at, it doesn’t matter anyways does it 🤷‍♂️

Hi Antonio, I had to google to find who gave the quote. Although it was said by Helen Keller, you could almost imagine it to have been a quote from Marcus Aurelius.

This is really useful - thanks Antonio. I have attended seminars where the speaker uses eye contact to make you feel as though you are the only two people there, amongst hundreds of people. Other times the speaker fails to make eye contact which gives me no confidence in them. Your videos have certainly made me more aware of my personal development and helped me along my career path. When I was younger, giving the wrong eye contact (staring), got me into unnecessary trouble with people who had drank a few too many. Thanks for advice. Russ

As a person who is not only visually impaired, but also Autistic, I must admit that all the do’s and don’ts of eye contact (not to mention eye contact itself) are incredibly complicated and intimidating.

I travel a lot for work in pharmaceuticals as I'm literally in a different state every single week and then I'm back home on the weekends in North Carolina where I'm in uniform paying it forward via community service in the Marine Corps League, the American Legion, the Military Order of the Devil Dogs and the Boy Scouts of America. So, eye contact is a HUGE skill to master and it took me years to get it right because I always used to get "you always look like a pissed off Marine", but I wasn't lol; but I was perceived that way as I never used to smile so once I figured out what I was doing wrong then I started working on it. Now for different cultures, when I was deployed to Bahrain in 2000 - they have rules and consider it offensive if you stare at women that wear black veils as they are married women and it's considered impolite to look at them. I was in school in Switzerland back in 2016 and on the weekend I would visit different places all over Europe and people there are more okay with eye contact and easier to read as most of them are friendly and almost all speak English or attempt to understand you so reading their eye contact and vice versa was easier. I've been in New Jersey, California and Boston last year at the height of Covid and people are just rude and literally feel threatened by your eye contact. It's dramatically different everywhere you go like you said. It may be beneficial to look up that specific areas customs and courtesies if you are traveling there. Cheers!

Great video, and I like your focus here on being mindful of different environments - a very valuable addition to the channel! In a social dance setting (one I’m in a lot), enough eye contact to get someone’s attention, and then convey excitement or enthusiasm in the face, is the perfect way to make a connection with someone in this setting, before walking over to ask them for a dance :)

Helen Keller said that. Originally continental African most cultures including my own recommend looking down when speaking to someone in authority or elderly. However most of these recommendations have been overtaken by decorum and what I call melting pot experiences. I now live in Northern Iraq where eye contact is sort of a given.

Antonio, its called the Eastern Conversation dont stare too long especially at someone in a higher or lower status than you, aside of being hostile it's considered rude as well. It's like pointing at someone. My daughter pointed at a person, she said that man is dressing like a girl, put her hand down and told her it's rude, dont do that. Inner voice child, inner voice.

Funny...every time you did your "flirty" face, I cringed and couldn't keep eye contact with the screen 😂 my problem has never been too little contact, it's always too much. My father raised me to always look a person in the eye, and that ends up intimidating a lot of people (imagine being stared down by a person the size of an NFL lineman). So my focus has been practicing less eye contact. Great subject, Antonio!

Semper Fi! I have an eye contact question. How about when walking past someone in a parking lot. I do it with a nod if it’s a guy and a simple smile for the ladies. I like to keep a 1.5sec on the men to make sure they are not up to something, more of a protection ready to go thing, lol. Opinions please. Make eye contact or just look straight ahead. 0311

It's crime. But how will she prove it infront of the court? That's some beta mindset. Stop with that weak mindset. First look at her eyes for some seconds then checkout her body. Then maybe approach her if you want. If any girl calls u a creep or pervert for staring at her body. She's either a feminist or probably not interested in you physically.
