I’ve been working and paying into Social Security for over 40 years, and there’s no way I’m waiting any longer to take it. I’m grabbing it early-might as well take the sure thing. At this point, I’m all about investing in myself and putting money into the market. Over the years, I’ve learned that building real wealth comes from making smart investments.

You're absolutely right. I tried investing on my own for a while, but the market just wasn't working in my favor. Eventually, I hired an advisor, even though I was hesitant at first. To my surprise, I ended up beating the market by more than 25%. At first, I thought it was just luck, but it happened again the following year. Since then, I've stuck with having an analyst handle my investments.

We have retired early with my wife to Bulgaria from Connecticut two years ago and I can say that despite the fact that there is not everything perfect in Bulgaria - we can afford a better lifestyle here spending approx. $1,800 of social security per month for family of two compared with what we could afford in US while working and earning $18,000 per month. It is extremely safe, beautiful and the cheapest EU and NATO country. Again - there is nothing absolutely perfect in this world and Bulgaria is also not perfect by all means but 10 times cheaper is 10 times cheaper
@leonidburd24374 ай бұрын
What city in Bulgaria have you chosen? And what kind of visa? Are you fluent in Bulgarian or other Slavic language?
@Vladimir-jc9xx4 ай бұрын
Very good questions: We chose a wealthy suburb of Varna called Saints Constantine and Helena - our condo located in a park on the Black Sea Coast with blue flag beaches and spas/swimming pools with healing warm mineral water - making it year-round resort-style living at the very best. It is not the cheapest sea-side resort in Bulgaria but still 3-5 cheaper compared with similar properties in neighboring countries or in US. We use a Retirement Visa (you need first apply for Bulgarian Visa D in US). This Visa needs to be renewed annually for the first five yeas - after that you will get a permanent resident status. With language it is a little bit more difficult. We are originally from Ukraine so we can read and understand 80-90% of Bulgarian, but spoken language we can only understand approx. 30%. But still with some challenges we can communicate here. Because of that so many people from US, Canada, Germany and Israel who where born in one of the former Soviet Union countries are planning to move/retire to Bulgaria. If you are not so lucky and don't have any background with any Slavic language - it will make it more challenging because only 25-30% people in Bulgaria can understand and speak English
@leonidburd24374 ай бұрын
@@Vladimir-jc9xx Thank you for the response. It seems we are on similar page. I can understand spoken and written Ukrainian and Byelorussian and fluent in Russian. I guess learning Bulgarian will not be a huge problem even at 62-63. We did not start getting American SSA payments yet. We will wait for few more years and financial part is not a big issue for us. The question for us is what we would sacrifice after living for 26 years in America and whether it is worth. What urges me thinking about the move is watching America changing and uncertainty about the future direction of the country. And I do not want to live in the place where I need to learn an entirely different language like Spanish or Thai.

Absolutely, I think whoever will win in November, - it will trigger massive (at least one million) exodus on loosing side and it is assuming there won't be a civil war. So better start thinking now about safe, beautiful and cheap country you can move and enjoy you life. Initially, when we moved to Bulgaria we were younger than 62 - so we have used a "Trade Representative of a Foreign Company" visa that doesn't have any age limitations

Six months ago, my oldest son returned to Australia after living in Spain for 18 years. Basic reason being the unemployment was very bad and no one wanted to give a middle aged person a job, that was adequate to support the daily cost of living. Back in Oz he was easily able to get work, and while living costs were higher than desired, he is able to get on with his life. So, make sure that you evaluate all aspects of living in a different country, not just the ones used here.
@MrWaterbugdesign4 ай бұрын
The video is for retired people. Absolutely true the cheapest places in the world have poverty and few employment opportunities. Few want to live there. That's true not just at the country level but within countries. 90% of Oz is super cheap because no one wants to live in the middle of nowhere. But if retired job is not on the to do list. Most expensive places have the most high paying jobs. People want to live there and the high pay enables paying the cost. Not much reason for a retired person to live there.

I am a new retiree, and I have done research on moving to another country. I have also researched places here in the US that, If we manage to stay out of debt and mortgage free, and aim to a simple but comfortable lifestyle, I can make it happen with less than my SSA and modest savings. The main budget killers for the average person here are insurance costs for everything, rents, home maintenance, health cost even with medicare benefit, taxes. For what, this video is describing, in a few good months, I live with $1000 and even less. I go over when I have to pay for house insurance, car, taxes and unexpected expenses that can be in the thousands. Working on maintaining good health is another great saving strategy. I live in Houston TX. I used to brag about its affordability, but in the last 10 years the cost of living here has almost doubled. I can still make it since I meet my own criteria on most points, but it is making my budget hard to maintain. I have found a few states and mainly country living, grid free or almost free, that is more appealing than moving out of the country. Great!

It is certainly beautiful. I have thought of retiring there. We'll see if one of my sons, stays. I can also own and carry a gun. That's important to me. Parts of Mexico is safe. Much of it is not. I assume where you live you see a lot of expats. If you like that then cool. How you choose to live matters. I live in Phoenix. I own my home. $0 rent, $166/mo prop tax. Value of my house has increased an average of $2000/mo for the past 15 years. If I move t Mexico I'd have to pay rent. Most food in Mexico is the same price as in the US or more. When I go to Nogales and standing in line to return to the US there are many Mexicans coming back from shopping for food at the Walmart on the US side because food is so much cheaper on the US side it's worth standing in line for an hour. I have Medicare in the US. Medical I pay the whole bill. Mexico is 60% cheaper than the US? You could say its 80%, 90% cheaper or whatever number you want to make up. Renting a penthouse apartment on Central Park in NYC vs renting a studio apartment with no AC in Mexico is 99% cheaper. What's the point? Trying to validate your personal move to Mexico? Well that is what social media is for.
