Love the video, got some great tips for my next visit! A "hidden" gem my friend showed me last time is the bakery underneath Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station. There's a small shopping area and there's a bakery there that I don't even know the name of. Nothing fancy, just locals enjoying some very tasty baked goods. And some days there's market outside the bakery, where local artists sell their artwork. I also love the Hyakumanben Chion-ji Temple that hosts a arts and crafts market on the 15th every month. It gets very crowded but it's a great place for food and local Kyoto culture and we didn't see many tourists the last time we went.

Love this list! Great editing btw; always love your videos! It feels like I'm hanging out with dear friends😊 My husband and I made it the Kyoto Railway Museum last year and boy, what a find! We got there 2 hours before closing and it was NOT enough! Plan at least 4 hours or even the whole day if you are train nerds 😜 keep up the great work and can't wait for more adventures to inspire our own!

Very glad Tofukuji gets a mention, its gardens are really cool (I love the checkerboard pattern a lot) and it's easy to get to after a Fushimi Inari climb (instead of going down to the main grounds, go north from the shops and the city view cliff at Yotsuji, towards Kojingamine Observation deck).

Love the onigiri shop and wagashi shop. And shotengai are always fun to visit. If youbrwally want to see some of the more popular places my tip is, go early. Just around opening. It's less busy then. And if you want to see the area it doesn't matter if things are just opening. And there is simply something about a temple or shrine in early morning.

As Shinichi mentioned at the end. these sort of 'secret spots' are more suited for people who've already been to Kyoto before, and are looking for a more laidback experience. A lot of tourists would think visiting non-famous landmarks or picnicking by the river to be a waste of time, especially for first time visitors who have a case of FOMO.

Last time I was in Kyoto, my hotel was near the Sanjokai shopping street. I was going past it everyday, looked super interesting, but my stay was too packed and didn't had time to try the shops, except the Lawson. Next time I'll spend more time there. A lot of people don't realize that Kyoto is actually a very quiet and peaceful city, just need to be out of the tourists areas.
