I also trained myself (I have since fallen out of this practice), to leave every room better than I found it. So even if it was just fluffing a pillow, or putting the remote in the bin, made a difference. It is amazing how it compounds quickly and how many times you leave a room, that it delays a need for blocked time to tidy!

My cleaning style is “I clean the whole house on Sunday afternoon, then finish on Monday morning what didn’t get done.” :) I also never ever leave a mess. If I walk into a room with a plate and cup, then I leave the room with the plate and cup, and put them in the dishwasher immediately. My family has been trained to do the same. When my boys were little, I would walk them back to the items they left in the room and make them put the items where they go. They automatically do it now.....except for my oldest, he moved out and does whatever he wants in his own home. 😂😂😂

I like your humor, you might enjoy this....I was gone from home during the work week due to an internship for an entire year. I came home on weekends and kept the family organized (hubby and one grown daughter). Despite my best efforts hubby gave himself food poisoning so I started labeling everything. Daughter's boyfriend thought I was a little crazy with the labels so he picked up my tool and labeled things like door bell, light switch. It ticked me off but hey, gotta laugh. Saturday night he came to dinner, picked up his napkin and said "Probably." Why? His napkin ring was labeled "Future ex boyfriend." Luckily her taste got better the next year.

My mom's style was to have a "cleaning closet" where all the supplies were in a plastic tool-box-like container with a handle. Then she'd go room to room and clean. This always gave me anxiety for some reason. When I got my Own home, I purchased Multiples of Everything, so every room has its own little cleaning station. This enables me to clean as I go and it's not as big a job as the "All in One Day"-way. Honestly? If I have One cleaning closet, I'm not going to go across the house to wipe the splashes off my bathroom mirror whereas when the cleaner is right there under the sink, it gets done immediately. My mom criticized me for being extravagant and buying Sooo Many of each item but here's the thing: I'm using the Same amount as her way; it's just spread out. I also have a commissary where I have extra-large pump dispensers with solutions I use all the time in them, so when a bottle gets low, I just take my little booty to the commissary for a refill. This system makes my heart Sooo Happy. Is it me? Or is it a Cricket-thing ? 🤔 😄😄😄🦗

I love zones. I have zones indoors and outdoors. The theory also really works with design and flow of a space. Especially when we’re all home a lot. We had to nicely ask him to not leave out the bones. I kind of thought that was a strange food scrap to leave out anyway, they aren’t for composting, and animals should only have uncooked bones.

Cass, Day 1. Today. I am a lifelong messy person. I called myself a pre- hoarder b/c I had so much stuff. When I moved to what I thought would be my forever home, I had already started culling. After numerous garbage dump trips, donations and giveaways to my friends, I got rid of at least 50%. I even culled more when I unpacked. Since then, my daughter moved 3 hours away. Covid hit, I lost my job but I’m fortunately 66 so I was eligible to retire. So I decided to move to be close to my daughter. It’s about to feel that way again because my new house for my retirement home is about 55 sqft smaller than the home I just sold. Because all of my changes happened so fast, I didn’t cull much. I couldn’t find a place to live so I’m in a 600 sqft rental, which surely helps to live “smaller.” Except, this place is a shambles. I pay no one visits, especially my daughter because she will be ashamed and disappointed in me. This is where I was at when this video hit. Maybe it’s because I’m ready? But these 20 steps AND cleaning in a circle feels like a new lease on life. It gives me what I never see: a beginning and end. I usually start by yelling at myself for being such a slob. Next, I mentally go over what needs to be done. And this list ALWAYS seems insurmountable. It’s so bad I don’t even realize I’m doing it to myself. I just know that I fail virtually every single time I try. Today, I started with the kitchen. I had been doing 15 minutes on and 15 off. Believe me I always wanted that break. Instead, today, I didn’t bother to set the clock. I got a lot done. Don’t know how long it took me either (and I don’t care). Right now, 1/2 of my kitchen is clean. And I mean clean. Not just doing the dishes and piling clean dishes into the dry. Not just getting them done and leaving a dirty sink and counters. I’ve cleaned underneath countertop appliances and I’ve moved what doesn’t belong to the end of the (tiny) kitchen. I’ve put away ALL of the things that DO belong. And, I’ve put things back into the sink that should have been washed as I cook each day. One counter is all the way clean. The next is started. And the stove is clear for the first time since I moved here. I’m moving to my new house in 1.5 weeks and I’ve been dreading it because this place - again it’s only 500-600 sqft - is such a disorganized mess. I could say more. But, I just wanted to thank you! My house was supposed to be a place grandsons could visit. Now, I think I’ve learned HOW I can accomplish that! Leslie

I also try to do a quick tidy before bed. Definitely not a deep clean like I probably should do but my days starts off so much better when my place(especially my kitchen) isn't a disaster. If nothing else I tidy the sofa, clean the sink, and clean the stove. All areas I see first thing in the morning. Tiny changes over time make a huge difference. You can do it!

Oh you're the best! You never fail to make me smile. I didn't know you had a S.O.R.T.E.D acronym! I do too! lol. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE acronyms! That squirrel is the cutest ever. I've never even seen a squirrel - much less a white one - the creatures that come to yards when you throw scraps out here in Australia are not so cute. lol

Very good tips, Clutterbug! The 1 minute rule can make a huge difference! FlyLady's routines are very helpful, too, to form good habits. Note: Your mother wasn't weird. She is/was wise! My mother use to say "Don't waste food & you will never go hungry." Growing up, we also heard "A lot of people in other countries are hungry because of lack of food." Not only did my Mom not waste food, planning her menus & food shopping day stopping in 3 different stores to catch all the local "food" sales she saved "a LOT" of money in general not being wasterful. She was a young child during the Great Depression. Food & other things were not as abundant as now. Note: A time like the Great Depression could happen again. In matter of fact some people predict it may well occur again, and be even possibly worst! Take nothing for granted, especially any of our resources, appreciate them, be thankful instead. God has greatly blessed our country in lots of ways.

This not about squirrels but chipmunks. I planted some tomato slices in a pot. A few days later I noticed the chipmunk had dug the slices up and ate them. However.. it did not eat the seeds. Later plants came up and I had at least 17 tomato plants in the pot. I had planted them too late for a harvest but I got a chuckle every time I looked at them all beautiful and green. Thanks for your video. You look great. I loved the way you were but love the new you now. Tata

I know that they do eat scraps! Our squirrels love pizza. The roofers fed their leftover pizza to our squirrels and they loved it! I have never seen a white squirrel but we do have a coal black squirrel! The first few times I spotted him I truthfully thought he was a shadow 🤗 My son’s squirrel picks out the food he likes out of his dish and leaves the rest! Very sociable 💜

I found that taking pictures of my flat surfaces before I tidy/declutter them, then looking at them after about a week helps figuring out what my problem "items" are. Like "ok, you left the coffee mug on the coffee table 4 times last week", or "the counter was consistantly the biggest catch all spot" then I can be more conscious of it because I've put a number or statistic on it mentally. I've used this trick most often after I've moved, because even though it's all the same stuff inside, the flow is different and different areas or items become problems until you learn how to work with them in your new space.

I am right there with you! What has worked for me is to move on to a second, third and fourth task and circle back to the first one until they are all done. My desk has a layered pile that includes a catalog under the bill notebook under the paper to sign under the sketchbook and I rotate through. If I take an item into a room, I try to accomplish a small task while in there and look for something to bring back to the first, etc.

Yeah, I hear you! But you don't know is that she has or had it too!! Give her a chance. Sometimes when I look around and I see I have like three or four or five things going I will take a minute to decide which one is close enough to being done which one I could zip up quickly, and do that and then find the next quickest one to zip up and do that and if I can whittle myself down to two that I can go back and forth between, like laundry and cooking or something like that, then I'm in pretty good shape!!

Clutterbug! I love your channel SO MUCH!!! Its helped me through really tough times in life. I love how REAL you are, how compassionate and kind and smart you are. Its amazing. I wanted to ask...is it at all possible for you to do an organising video for your business? I am such a messy person. I'm just naturally unorganised. I think I'm a butterfly. Your organising videos has helped me so much! But now I'm looking for something similar for my to-do list problem... I STRUGGLE to work with a normal to-do list...at the same time I need to do something to organize everything that needs to be done in the business... I would super appreciate any help/ advice/ anything! Thanks so much for your channel! You're awesome!

I've been following you for some time now and although you've stated it multiple times, it just clicked: putting things where I use them... Like putting the baking supplies beneath my working area where the mixing bowl will be used, not in the cupboard beneath the fridge (I'm German, I don't own one of those massive fridges). Tomorrow I will swatch the baking stuff with my pots, lids and miscellaneous, because they then will be opposite the stove. Thanks Cas, this might solve some problems I wasn't even that aware of 😳 That white squirrel is adorable by the way, I love squirrels 🥰

Squirrels are not the best thing to attract nor to let hang too close to the house. They can really tear things up trying to find a warm, dry place to make a nest in. Whoever’s hiding or eating the scraps is doing you a real favor. You get rid of it, they enrich the dirt.
@lorenet.21824 жыл бұрын
Thanks. They are evil little fur balls who will try to get into your house. They are very messy and if they nest the offspring will try to return home.

One thing I love about your channel is how you don’t promote one “best” solution, but that knowing your style and coming up with solutions that work for you. PS. I’m a cricket and I agree on having a weekly plan, but over time I go thru waves of what my plan is. Currently since COVID I’ve been a weekend warrior. I’ll probably change to more of a zone cleaner once I have a life again.
