Can people stop saying Nell killed herself please. Nell thought she was putting on a necklace, she didn't intend to kill herself, nor did the house kill her, not directly anyways, the house tricked Olivia, and Olivia gave Nell a push, she didn't jump, she didn't even realize what she was doing until she fell and passed. Nell wasn't weak, she'd always fought through her fears, she wasn't going there to kill herself, she went there on the therapist's suggestion that "it was just a house", and she'd realize that if she went back. Nell although feeling somewhat a sense of relief from dying in some ways, didn't want to die - she loved her family, Luke especially, and wouldn't have put them through that pain.

She was trying to keep him there which means she wanted to kill all of them so that they can be with him forever in their forever home. She even has this scene in the end with Elder Hugh where she says that this Hill House is their forever home and they all should be in here. She was brainwashed by the ghost of Poppy( the mad wife of the mad guy, William Hill). Yeah, Olivia was driven to kill herself by Poppy, who was going to push her but didn't. Olivia made the initial fall herself so I can see how that's a suicide. Nell on the other hand was murdered. She went to the house to face her fears and had no intention of committing suicide. Olivia tricked her into putting on the noose by making it look like a necklace and pretty much moving her to the edge. When Nell realises this she looks absolutely terrified and calls for her mother, but is pretty much pushed. She wouldn't have died had Olivia not tricked her.

Kind of like American Horror Story does. I like that idea. It’s kind of like a series of shorts except each story has its own season, and the mystery is solved by the end (instead of leaving us waiting on a cliff until it comes back). It’s satisfying to me to end it knowing all of the secrets and answers, then starting a new story! Keeps me interested. It does suck that we won’t be seeing any more of this family, but I’m excited to see new stuff.

What do you think about the family members also representing the seven deadly sins. Steve - greed Luke - gluttony Shirley- envy Theo - lust Nell - sloth Olivia - wrath Hugh - pride
@mousemiot5 жыл бұрын
Matthew Dardick how is Nell sloth?
@mattd.69385 жыл бұрын
Here is the meaning of sloth in biblical terms sourced from Wikipedia Sloth is one of the seven capital sins. It is the most difficult sin to define, and to credit as sin, since it refers to a peculiar jumble of notions, dating from antiquity and including mental, spiritual, pathological, and physical states. One definition is: a habitual disinclination to exertion. She was the only sibling trying to keep the peace. As her mental, spiritual and physical state declined. She isolated herself after her last effort to keep the peace. As well sloth and gluttony are very similar state of minds in general. So that kind of adds to my idea. I could be completely wrong but I think I'm close. Nell was the hardest for me to place in the deadly sins for sure.
@Grillenheimer5 жыл бұрын
No... Nell as sloth does make sense! Wow nice find!
@mousemiot5 жыл бұрын
Matthew Dardick I agree Nell is the hardest to place. When I think of the sin sloth I think of deliberately lazy people. I don’t see that at all in Nell... I see depression more so considering she killed herself and went through a deep depression when her husband died.
@mattd.69385 жыл бұрын
@@mousemiot I see your point. Though laziness is a form of depression and falls in the same category. Considering it's a mental state it certainly couldn't be completely realized yet. Sloth can take many forms. Her sleep paralysis for one is meant to slow her down and progresses her depression. My point is you don't have to be inherently lazy to be slothful.

I just noticed something while watching episode 7. It’s when Hugh goes to see Theo because he can’t get in Shirley’s house just yet. He asked Theo if “we” could come in. The subtitles say “I”, but after playing it over and over again, I could swear Hugh said “we”.

I picked up on the 5 stages of mourning when I was watching it. However, I thought that Luke would be bargaining as he's constantly pleading with someone for something. I figured Theo for depression as she just seems constantly depressed and isolated.
@Luv2Dnce45 жыл бұрын
TheRepty818 What’s important in distinguishing between them is the order of the five stages of depression. Bargaining is the third stage: Theo is the third-born and her episode number is three. Depression is the fourth stage: Luke is fourth-born (the older of the twins) and his episode number is four.

The 5 stages thing isn't a formula and not everyone experiences all of them, or in any particular order.
@Luv2Dnce45 жыл бұрын
Threadbare_Saint Yes, I understand not everyone experiences grief the same way. I’m referencing the model Elisabeth Kübler-Ross originally put forth in her book. And when you learn about grief, the five stages *are* taught in that order. The order of the episodes and the birth order of the Crain kids obviously mimics the model.

One of the moments I liked about the show was when young Nell reappeared after she went missing, she told other family members that she was right there, screaming but none of them heard her and how well that was synced with view of her casket. In adult life also, the same happened - she was screaming of pain but other family members didn't heard her.
@SeventeenDiamonds175 жыл бұрын
Also, now it makes sense why Olivia kept wanting to kill her children by bringing them back to the house like what she did to Nell cuz she was manipulated by the villain ghost, Poppy. To Olivia, she and her children are constantly living in this nightmare that she wanted them to wake up from and the only method is to kill them. And notice, not all the ghosts in the house are bad. Hazel hill, the old grandma ghost that lived in the master bedroom did warn Olivia about Poppy, telling her that she is a liar and she shouldn't trust her.

I see what all the hype was about now finally watching the show myself. As most people are stating, the writing is just top notch. Not only did the show manage to be creepy without being too cliche, it had so much emotion packed in it. I never expected to get emotional so much during what I thought was essentially a horror series. But it was beautiful more than anything I think. All the actors did great including the children though I have to say my favorite was the adult actress who played Nell. I haven't looked up her name yet but her arc in the show combined with the actor playing her was just incredible I thought. Episode 5 was so heartbreaking..

One thing that I've noticed is that Nell's therapist is played by Russ Tamblyn who played Luke in the original 1963 movie "The Haunting". Another thing (for those who have seen the 1963 version) is Mrs Dudley's line in the movie "In the night...In the dark" which is pronounced exactly the same by Annabeth Gish in the Netflix series. I loved that reference because "The Haunting" is one of my favorite ghost movies.

I haven't seen this cool secret in your guys` video: In the later episodes, where Olivia speaks to the husband, BEFORE the night, they keep entering and exiting the twins room. And there are two statues there. And one of the statue (the left one) looks at Olivia (To its right side) and then looks ahead, in different shots.
@jesseb.21285 жыл бұрын
Episode 5 was probably my favorite, but 6 was good as well. I like how episode 6 was made to look like one seamless shot for most of the episode. Also, in ep. 6 when Olivia is searching for Nell, she walks down the hallway that has two large statues at the mouth of it. She enters a room, closes the leaking chimney flu, and then exits the room. Looking closely, one will notice that one of the statues at the end of the hall has been turned opposite the way it was facing prior to Olivia entering the room. Subtle yet spooky. People who don't notice the turned statue will still likely feel uneasy, but might not know why.

If there is a season 2 I want it to be about the Crain family! I feel like Olivia never really believed Hugh and still thinks her children should “ wake up” (die) So I want her character to be resolved and I want her to realise her mistakes and how she was brainwashed by the ghosts. When Hugh killed him self to go back to her and nell as Olivia hugged him she did not look happy she just had a blank stair but hell was crying and laughing. So maybe season 2 could have Hugh and Olivia finding a way to escape hill house and move on to a happier place. Or the other children dying and all going to hill house to be with their parents and nell. I would love to see their reactions and if they ever get to leave
