Yes, more of these types of vlogs, please! Really enjoyed seeing the differences (if any) between the patterns and the ready-to-wear garments. ⭐

I love the trends comparisons. I made a ruffle dress back in the 80's and it was one of my favorites...some of these I feel could be done as an upcycle without a pattern. Many blessings

I really enjoyed this! The pace, information and content were perfect. I didn't realize the Know Me patterns were so on trend. That was really cool. I guess I haven't been paying attention to trends!😂

Yes definitely on trend. This video idea started when I came across that pair of jeans and realized there was a newly released pattern that was an almost identical match!

I love the first pattern! I may have to give it a try although some folks may say it's too young for me (I'm 70). It takes me back to my teenage years. Please do more of this type video.
@SharonSews Жыл бұрын
I know! They reminded me of my teen years also 😀 you are not too old to sew and wear these! I am a firm believer that you should wear what you want and what makes you happy. And these pants are pretty cool they would make us happy.

That skirt pattern is fabulous, I don’t wear skirts enough to justify me purchasing and sewing it, but I was definitely tempted! I have purchased some patterns at full price because I like them so much and don’t wanna wait for sale. It’s worth it if you know you’re gonna sew it and love it.

@SharonSews Жыл бұрын
Thanks Michelle! I loved that the spring and summer releases from the Big 4 had so many options for sewing RTW designs. I’m not sure the fabric is still available, I purchased it more than a year ago. It is a rayon challis from Stylemaker fabrics.

thanks for the sew the look video ( Closet core patterns was treated so hard when they released " Jo Dress + Jumpsuit Pattern"
@SharonSews Жыл бұрын
I was not familiar with that. I had to look it up after you left this comment. Yeah they did kind of get treated harshly over that. I alluded to it in the video, but releasing patterns that are almost exact designer, dupes or RTW or getting inspiration from them, is something that has been happening in the sewing industry for a long time. McCall’s, before they changed their social media strategy, even used to post on Instagram Sew The Look with a designer garment and pattern that could be used to re-create. I think with the advent of so much access to information online, it’s now easier for us to find the inspiration.

I’m getting the jeans pattern as soon as it is available. Same with the gathered denim skirt. I’ve got more confidence to try denim jeans as I have been making denim pinafores lately and as these are wide legged it shouldn’t have as much fitting required at the hip. I would love to see you make it.
@SharonSews Жыл бұрын
Isn’t that Jean pattern fabulous? I think because it’s not a traditional jean, it’s more a pant style, it’ll be easier to fit. I love that denim skirt pattern also, but I don’t wear skirts as often as I wear pants. I just need to find some denim fabrics!

Wow! I wonder if the designers are using the RTW garments as inspiration or vice versa? Many of them are almost identical!
@SharonSews Жыл бұрын
I know! It’s hard to say which came first. Either way I for one am happy to know that I can use a sewing pattern rather than draft or hack one to get the RTW look I want.

I do like the sew the look but to be honest am less interested in the trends and more interested in the timeless looks of brands like Lily pulitzer, tommy hilfiger, ralph lauren, and hale bob. in other words, could we have a sew the look focused on a classic brand?

Sharon, ever hear the word Copy-cats? Way too many to not arouse suspicion; and mostly all the same brand. Hmmm.
@charlottemccaig578 Жыл бұрын
It takes at least a year to get a pattern ready to print. I don't know when the rtw looks were released but it's not necessarily "copycat". Most sewing patterns have copied rtw for over 100 years including many designers who had their own patterns produced, particularly for Vogue, over the years. This was so the average, everyday woman could dress like the pages of fashion magazines for a fraction of the price. There is nothing much new in the world of fashion design, fabrics change, industry changed, but still designed with basic slopers based on shapes that have been around forever.
