Oh yeah, that too. That's exactly what I've done the two campaigns I played but never finished. I got to that point fast because I played in small galaxies. I never finished because I like to make everything as efficient as possible, except for my time spent. If I have to go day by day to make sure constructions start as soon as they are supposed to, I'll do it until I get bored and quit entirely.

From lurking in pro servers its commonly agreed that if you can a research world is actually the best designation for it, capital is less good. Capital is usually main tech world due to inertia only, not due to superior quality. To explain here is the simple math. The capital by giving 5 stability and 10% job resources effectively gives 13% resources from jobs total. This is only 1.56 research per researcher. With a full 10 t1 labs that is only 31 more tech than normal. (20 researchers normally gives about 600 on capital, so 570 otherwise). Total output gain... 5%. For a research world. With 10 labs and 20 researchers a research world saves you 8 cg as bio, 24 minerals as hive. This as bio shifts 1 worker from artisan to either more tech or metallurgy, and potentially 1 miner too. For hive it more clearly saves 3 full miners. Pops are your main resource, wasting resources on upkeep reduces your total output. The exception is machine capital, where the bonus is 18%, and the researcher upkeep is far lower (4 energy on a base 8 technician job vs consumer goods for bio or minerals for hive.
@Ep3o
@Ep3o Жыл бұрын
That is a good point. I may have been too hasty to give a blanket statement of never using it. One thing I forgot, which makes using the tech world a potential instead of the capital planet is that you no longer have to upgrade the capital building to build tech labs. This does make the tech world even more usable. Overall though, especially early game, I think it's still better to build your capital into tech and the other two guaranteed into resources rather than the tech world due to the inertia. But your points are correct and makes the choice even closer than only ever making capital into tech!
@emilyburkert7061
@emilyburkert7061 Жыл бұрын
But you also have to factor in what alternatives exist for the Main World. (Everything is written from hive perspevtive but i don't think that a lot changes for bio. Ressource jobs are even more efficient with their designations resulting in even more ressources wasted. The only exception might be alloy production with hive but you want to have ressources and Research before getting the second Planet anyways so your Planet already has Ressource and science districts. Not worth it to change the Planet. Also your job is not to create basic ressources but to create alloy and science so just use the bigger one for alloys and the smaller one together with your Main world for Research.

In simplify explain, it’s like rubber band your research. The one who know less can learn more from the others. But if you’re far superior in term of tech, you will get less from them. There’s a time I got too ahead in tech that there’s an empire want a research agreement that I learn nothing from them while they learn a lot from me.

Since Overlord came out, i've been doing this thing where I make the whole universe supply everything for me. I'll do a Clone Trooper start with militarist ethic for crazy fleet buffs, conquer my neighbors, force them to give me their resources and technology, and eventually I phase out my own research labs altogether and transition my starting world into an ecumonopolis that just pumps out alloys from the minerals they're paying me. The more factions I take over, the more research and resources I get. I just sit on my one little city planet and command an enormous fleet from my federation they're all forced to be in, an anormous fleet from galactic custodian, and an enormous fleet from as many personal ships as I can sustain. Makes the snowballing to ruler of the universe so fast. This is my new "lazy way" to play when I just don't feel like putting in much work. There is something so satisfying about just sticking to my 100 population cap with clones and not worrying about shit like overpopulation or planet management at all.

This comment is hilarious but I can’t really place why, I think it has something to do with how absurd such an arrangement would be in real life. “Yeah, there’s this one guy, he rules the whole galaxy, we give him minerals and he turns them into weapons that he uses to threaten us.”

@@bloopityblorp6365 Isn't that how all royalty operate? It's just one person, or one family, that has all this land and power and wealth simply because everyone thinks they should. Even during the civil wars and revolutions when people tried to overthrow their monarchs, there were STILL loyalists who fought for their monarchs anyway.
@TheDrexxus
@TheDrexxus Жыл бұрын
@@daskinnytexan9480 Feudal society is a bit different. There are different levels of lords who each answer to each other and pay taxes and give soldiers to their lords in a big pyramid scheme. My arrangement is more like... It's honestly like Sparta. Every Spartan was a soldier and dedicated themselves exclusively to war. The only reason they were able to do this is because they made slaves of everyone else and forced those people to do all other jobs. There were no spartan farmers because slaves were the farmers. No spartan artisans because slaves made everything. It freed Sparta up to hone their skills in war and they were absolutely unmatched and unbeatable in war as a result. The reason the Spartans collapsed is the same primary reason that the Roman Empire did. They got lazy. Both were strong militarist ethics and mentality and wanted the best soldiers in the world, but after a certain point they became rich and rather than fighting their own wars with their own soldiers, they began to pay other armies to fight for them instead. They'd pay locals and barbarians. Soldiers with nowhere near the dedication, training, experience, equipment, and certainly nowhere near the will and desire to fight. Once they crowdsource their armies, everything else just sort of fell apart in both cases.

@@TheDrexxus 1) you assume people didn’t benefit from monarchy compared to alternative systems of the time. Our distaste for monarchies, especially absolute monarchies, is an affectation of the American era. 2) monarchies aren’t run by one guy, even Louis XIV’s monarchy didn’t function that way. A monarch needs to keep up the estates, collect taxes, secure diplomatic deals and defend the kingdom, all of which requires the loyalty of people capable of doing those things. In essence, every leader, in absence of total tyranny, is restricted by what the ruling coalition will tolerate. There are places where this is less true than in others - Putin and Xi have a pretty iron grip on their countries for example - but I can’t think of anywhere in history where it was completely false. I don’t mean to come off like some monarchist fanboi or anything, I just don’t think it’s an accurate analogy

My thing I like to do against the AI is after making a research agreement. When a tech I am researching gets to 1 month left, I switch it out for another in that field. I do this until all options are full. Then I finish off the lowest one. Which then gives me 4 new options. Repeat the same process. Also do all the special projects. Pretty soon the AI will break the agreement. Then I start finishing off all the research. Learning a new tech monthly. Boom all the sudden I am a leader in tech. And the AI barely got anything from me.😂

I think there are a couple of other science modifiers you may have missed: - There are additional research boosts from the Technological Ascendancy ascension perk, the Research Cooperative federation modifiers, and the Scientific Revolution edict. Having an Intellectual governor also boosts research from jobs in the sector they oversee. - The Psionic and Erudite species traits from Psionic and Biological ascension, as well as the Uplifted species trait all give boosts to research from jobs. Necrophage and Clone Army species traits give boosts to specialists output. - Scientists from any of the ascension paths have bonuses to research speed (Cybernetic, Psychic, and Erudite traits). Scientist research expertises also boost research speed in specific fields, and this boost is doubled with the Technocracy civic. - Finally, research alternatives and scientist expertises are important when considering beelining and tech rushing, since actually directing your research is an important part of not wasting all the science you’re generating.
@wirelessbaguette8997
@wirelessbaguette8997 Жыл бұрын
Just a clarification on point 3, Technocracy does not boost the expertise research speed bonus, that's still 15%. What it does do is make it twice as likely that they will roll a tech in their field of expertise. For example, if an expert in Computing leads physics research, all techs in the Computing field will be twice as likely to show up in the list of researchable techs than they otherwise would. Still very useful for gunning for specific techs, but it doesn't do exactly what you said it did.

Tech Worlds are useful - just be selective with the planet. If there's a modifier there its a prime candidate for being a Tech World. Relic Worlds in particular can do crazy research output. Your Capital should be your primary research planet at least until midgame - then you can maybe switch it into being a unity generator with dozens of Bureaucrat jobs to finish off your traditions due to just how much unity you need once you've finished a couple of trees (and also allows for late game edicts to be on permanently even as your empire size balloons out of control).

Play a technocracy when I'm doing multiplayer with my friends. My first priority is to get 4 research labs on my home world, and my first colony only produces luxury goods and minerals. About two hours in I'm producing 750+ research, and have an economy equivalent to the megacorp players, and a population that outnumbers any other species (since I rush terraforming and cloning). My unity might not be the best but often no one is capable of touching me and it allows me to dictate the borders and alliances in the galaxy accordingly. HOWEVER. There is a point around colony 4 or 5 where things get critical, usually a shortage of energy credits or minerals. Most of the other players don't realize it but if they hit you at that point there is not much that I can do. Its a small window of opportunity that so far no player has exploited (usually because their too busy dealing with public order or their own resource shortages)

Science can get multipliers in not-so-normal planets. And I don't mean just the habitat. Relic worlds (if you manage to get one) have a total +30% research output, which carries over when you convert them to Ecumenopolis. (Although, given the silly alloys production you can get on one, you may want to consider if that's not a better use of them.) And I'm not sure if ringworlds get a multiplier per se, but the sheer amount of research jobs you can have on the same research institute means you can easily get silly stuff like 4000 science on one ringworld segment. So when it comes to whether your capital is the best place or not... it depends, really.

Is that a mod making your scientists look like that, or is that what they look like with the new update? I don't plan on picking up Overlord until I finish my current campaign so probably not for another week or so.

Bruh... I had no clue about the assist research. I would just place my scientists down as governors. Might still be worth it as a technocrancy since the traits give research buffs as governor, but man I missed out.

@@Ep3oOh, never mind then. I appreciate the information update :) It's so hard to get information about this game since a) I don't have any DLC and all the systems are wildly different than all the tier lists/youtubers say without them and b) information is made invalid so quickly with updates!

I knew about everything except the research agreement not being raw output numbers. I always declined them because I thought it's laughable to get 9 research for so much influence when you're already producing 450 on your own... now I know why this always felt awkward in terms of balancing.

Everybody is missing out on something if you are in the late game and you have repetables with a sicence exchange you even getting the bonus if you are ahead like you have energy weapon dmg 11 and you frend have 1 but boath getting the +25% this also works with the federation for science! Gives even bigger bonuses

Another late game idea is to wait until xeno empires build Science nexuses, then liberate the system housing it from them. A frame will do, you can only build one yourself, but you can upgrade multiple nexuses. My personal best thus far is six science nexuses (nexii?), giving me 1850 research output from megastructures before bonuses, in addition to +90% research speed in addition to other bonses (~180% total, category depending). You also forgot psionic trait, which is as good as intelligent for research and stacks with it. If you start off as a student of the shroud you also start with latent psionic trait, which is another +5% output. If you're psionic and get euredite xenos somewhere you can even stack those, but by that point science nexuses are just more cost-effective and quicker.

Don't want to say that But bro, with a clone army origin and reach only 1k research in 100 years? Many people can make it in 40 years. Try to conquer more capitals at the beginning and have some well developed planets. It can save you at least 40 years.

That representation is wrong. Before the floppy disks were the cassettes that were also used in computing and before it could be included vinyl records. The floppy disks are fairly recent. I know it's a joke but it's wrong. PS: I don't like very much the cloud.

True. Btw cloud is more of an alternative rather than substitute, because data can be stolen or locked by the company operating the cloud if it wants so.
