Ring Worlds and Habitat starts we’re my two most-anticipated origins. Yet to play the ring but I’ve been very pleased with the habitats ability to play super-tall.

If you go the habitat start with authoritarian it becomes quite easy if you have a pre space civilisation near you to start going super fast with expanding especially if you can find two or more by chance. You can basically curveball after a few years and start building a lot of habitats after that point.

I was also looking forward to Habitats, but my biggest disappointment with the DLC came immediately after I started the game because it doesn't allow you to have the origin with a gestalt conciousness. No Void Dweller Rogue Servitors. Sad.

Pretty sure this origin draws direct influence from Larry Niven's Ringworld, where an interloper pierced the titular ringworld and the ensuing chaos sent the advanced people inhabiting it back into the stone age. This race never managed to advance past the stone age after the calamity because they had lost art of metallurgy and the ringworld (being an artificially constructed habitat) obviously had no minerals to mine.

@@FreedomAttacker1 Fist Of God's impact occurred way after the fall of the Ringworld civilization though. Thats why they failed to stop it. The civilization fell because the Puppeteers are assholes that introduced a bacteria that rotted the antigravity mechanisms or something, to destroy the strong civilization that controlled like 1% of the ring, because they could be a danger for them. After the founders just eek out in the ruins, or flee the ring by retrofitting the attitude jets into ships, thus leaving the ring at risk of 'falling' into the star.

If anything if I had to make a Foundation empire for Stellaris I would use the remnant origin, to show how they had little to work with, but had the wealth of knowledge from the now dead empire.

I started with this in a multiplayer game. I was the most powerful for the entire game, and could have easily conquered my player neighbors, but they begged me not to. So I didn't conquer them. They are very happy vassals now.

So i played as a robit with ringworld and i discovered some thing 1. the arcane generator only powers the first district type, aka it won't power the second district of any type, so you'd have to pay the upkeep if you got 2 science districts but you wouldn't if you got a housing and science 2. repairing one of the ringworld sections counts as a megastructure for the galactic wonders ascension perk 3. there's no arcane generator on the other ringworld sections

Yeah, this is easily the fastest start. Take technocracy, make a research district, build alloy plants

Be careful. Research district cost a MASSIVE amount of consumer goods (or minerals if you are a machine empire). You can rush the research district fairly fast (10 years top - you need 500 energy and 1600 minerals), but you cannot sustain 20 researchers in the early game.

@@Alphenis Since the shattered ring start gives you the materials to build one of each district when you clear the blockers (the gas/motes/shards) you can build the research then build the trade district for 5 more artisans. Either way, the most important note is just before a district completes, go to population and lower the related job/s by 1 so the amount employed is locked in. Otherwise all 20 of your farmers will promote away immediately and not go back. Since you're doing that anyway, it's easy to balance to how much consumer goods you have by slowly feeding in more scientists or artisans. Also, since you're science rushing to get to mega engineering you can afford to let your alloys lag for a while and take consumer focus in addition to consumer benefit trade.

Doing the Scion origin allows you to be really aggressive early game as it gives you a 6k fleet like 3 years into the game. It’s kinda broken because it allows you to early rush if you start next to other empires

I like how the Ringworld Start mod did it so much better -- you get your shiny ringworld (in various condition, many choices), but you also have the Ringworld habitation trait. Basically another "tall" option.

I would like insight on the Lithoid specific origin. The meteor colony ship is cool and thematic... but unless I'm missing something it only gives -50 habitability and a few pops to dig out. Unlike the capital, which gets +25 growth and a lot of mining districts. Seems a poor trade off for cheaper'ish colony ships.

Been playing a multiplayer game with my housemate who is Lithoid with calamitous origin. His pop counts are larger than mine and he expanded insanely fast. Digging up pops significanty improves upon the lithoids horrendous growth speed, especially when you combine that with Mastery of Nature ascension and volatile motes secretions allowing you to have cheap/free volatile land clearance edict. IIRC it cost him about 125 minerals and a couple months to dig up a pop.

I sort of did this accidentally in my first real game. Just picked everything up during the summer sale and made my first custom race. I just thought ringworld sounded like a cool roleplay thing. I kind of wanted my race to be a remnant of some ancient powerful society that was living on the last vestiges of this tech, the ring. I wound up going a different direction but I kept the ring start but ocean worlds being their basic planet type. I didn't know cold worlds get more minerals. Still. For a first game things are going... fairly well.

Can you do a ringworld origin video for 3.0? It's finally an origin no one will ban in multiplayer, thanks to the nerf, but the quality of life changes they added to compensate have been great, plus having industrial districts is so much better. Can you give us some hints for how to make the new origin work? :) I feel like you focus much more on the ring and only expand to habitats and relic worlds/worlds you plan on making ecus later. The new pop mechanics reward you for taking more time to expand than the other origin types.

It's a very powerful origin, but I don't know that I would recommend it to people new to Stellaris. If you're playing as a non-machine empire, it's ridiculously easy to break your economy with the districts. I'm a bit of a research junkie, and I found by accident that even one research district early on can cripple you. Not only does it cost 40 consumer goods, but due to the way the AI works, every single farmer ditches his tools for a lab coat and suddenly you're at -100 food production. And then you can't tell them to go back to farming because they're now specialists and don't want to go back to being workers.

I played as a rouge servitor and it gave me a farming district and a generator district at the start of the game, I didn't have any unemployed pops on that section till around 2430.

About the rare resources, once the arcane generator produces them you can simply buy them in the market at a monthly basis.

I really love the void born origin. I played a xenophile pacifist mega corp. Having two envoys at the start is ducking op. I got a migration treaty really early on so i could colonise unhabital planets. You get so much diplomatic weight from trading its discussing. I know why stefan and spiff played it. Only downside is, you are really woundable from the start, because it’s quite difficult to build alloy factories and manage the bit you have with expanding and building a fleet.

Y'know, I played a shattered ring and only thought it was decent because my beginning was extremely hampered, but this video taught me there are blockers that give you the required resources to actually build the other districts very quickly, and that makes it so that it is a very good start.

Is there a mod to fix the bug where habitat and ring worlds empires don't get the tomb world habitability change from the horizon signal, I couldn't find one myself

Oh man, I had no idea the arcane generator generates all you need for the segments. And to think it already felt overpowered even without being able to build additional segments.

didn't the horizon signal use to destroy ring worlds tho back during the utopia? or did it just do nothing, cant totally remember, but if you would be so kind as to enlighten us, I would be quite curious to see what happens to the interloper as well when the event is finished

Same, I also had an ancient empire spawn next to me and their capital is an ecumenopalis with a planetary archive. So once I conquer them later I will be completely unstoppable.

Well i did a Machine intelligence empire and i pretty much only had 2 planets for about 66 years in the game but rather quickly developed a massive amount of reasources
