This is my top 10 mediums to use on the gel plate. I love using mixed media on the gel plate to make framable prints.
I use white acrylic paint and 80 gsm printer paper to pull the prints from the gel plate.
I discuss how to apply each medium to the gel plate, how it performs and its ability to give repeated pulls.
I hope you enjoy.

Hi Martie, Im so sorry for such a ridiculously late reply. I love the poster paint on the gel plate. I find it slightly drying with time...but that's what baby oils for!!! I love how transparent the poster paint is, it's really beautiful and very under rated. Best of all, I can afford it without guilt!!!

Thank you so much for your excellent work, Kirsten! 🤗💖 I also like the kids poster paint alot. When I first bought it at the store I thought it can't be good, because it is so cheap. But it works really good on the gelli plate. 👍

Hi koko, thank you!!!! It’s the colours you can mix with it too, they’re so lovely and easily mixed. I like using it with the acrylic paint, like mixing it together and also as separate layers on the gel plate. And it’s so cheap in comparison. I’m a bit of a super fan of it 😂🥰😘🥰

Hi Kirsten 🤩 I like your experimental approach. With some of the mediums I´ d rather forgo the way over the geli plate, because I love so much more the luminosity of some colors directly on paper. But it´ s your great merit 🥰 to show all the different results in just ONE video. That was very interesting for me and also to analyse my preferences. Maybe I ask myself too quickly what I would use "this" for, whereas you seem to go on a playful experimental journey. I like your way of teaching. Thanks a lot for that 😘. Britta

You know I love you Britta, I’d be sad if you didn’t comment. I was actually thinking of matte medium instead of white paint. I’m wondering if it’s the white paint that dulled them. I’m big on variety so I like making the same mark in multiple ways, I think that’s my thing. I did love the oil pastels on the paper, they were so bright. ❤️❤️❤️

Apple and Barbara, I totally agree. I find it very hard to start a picture on paper now, it just feels too blah. There’s something about the transference that brings it alive.

Thanks for this video. Do you think the Inktense transfer fixes? If water is added on top of the Inktense transfer does it bleed? I will need to try that.
@quirkyqueens
@quirkyqueens 5 ай бұрын
Hi Dixie, I’m not sure. I was hoping the wetness from the acrylic paint would provide the one time wetness for it. That’s a thought I didn’t even consider!!! Thank you for that.
@DeborahPreuss
@DeborahPreuss 5 ай бұрын
Hi Kirsten. Such interesting experiments - thanks! Question: the Inktense experiment wasn't clear: 1) did you apply the blocks onto wet paper, or apply dry and add water once it was down? And: 2) was the page it dry or wet when applied to the gelli plate? Thanks :-)
@quirkyqueens
@quirkyqueens 5 ай бұрын
Hi Deborah, thank you!! I applied it dry on to dry blocks. Once it was down I just used the paint to lift it. My thought process was the wetness of the paint would act like water. I used dry paper. A lovely lady asked earlier about it reactivating as I hadn’t used water. I was hopeful the acrylic paint would be enough, but I’m not actually sure. I will need to have a try and see the outcome. 😁
@DeborahPreuss

@@quirkyqueens oh! So you didn't apply any water to the intense in your process? Interesting! It transferred sutprisingly well, and repeatedly. Gotta try that! Thx.

I don't have baby oil. Will canola oil work to clean the plate?
@quirkyqueens
@quirkyqueens 5 ай бұрын
Hi corinna, I’m not sure what canola oil is. I know the gel plate company advises mineral oil, of which baby oil is. I would hate to give the wrong guidance on this. I’m so sorry I can’t be of more help. 😔🥰
