Abstract portrait on the gel plate using a template and water mixable oils

I used the Reilly method to create a template to improve face proportions and placement.
Thanks to
‪@ArtbyGalen‬ for the wonderful tutorial.
I used water mixable oils to make gestural expressive paint strokes on the gel plate.
You could use open acrylics or add retarder to acrylic paint. This is so you can work wet in wet.

There was something about the ghostly one. I wish I’d not done the middle pull so there was more paint left behind, but I’ll know for next time!! I’ve put the channel I learned it on in the description Machteld. He was a very clear and concise teacher. ❤️

Me too, I need to spend more time doing the painting bit, I could've done a better job but realistically when I watch a YT video I want the process so I try to move fast. I love water mixable oil paint. Drying times a pest but there is something about the way it moves. Ive also noticed Windsor and newton have brought out some solvent free type solvents so there will be more guilty purchases very soon!!!!!

Absolutely cracking piece of work. My favourite so far! I would have this on my wall. I like the first pull to be honest. Kirsten, my daughter has started a course in pattern design and I suggested she use the gel. I bought her one but she has less clue than me. I think it's time for you to design an online course - 'Kirsten's magical gelli journeys', and let us know when we can sign up 😃 P x

Hi Pabi, sorry for the late reply. The pattern course sounds exciting. I’ve seen a few people on instagram using gel plate with textiles, I think they must be quite relevant to each other. Unfortunately I don’t have a course. I just share on YT and settle for the ad revenue. I’d be worried people would be disappointed in a course. We could trade harp and gel plate teaching though….🤝🎶🎼🎵🎨🖌️
