I remember playing Thousand Arms in college. Whenever I'd bring the game to my school club everyone would gather around during the dating sim parts to vote on what I should choose as an answer. It was usually the worst possible choice.

I LOVE Guardians Crusade. I played it in my "Rental Time". I used to rent Playstation Games almost every weekend and now i regret that i hadn't bought some of these Games and Guardian Crusade is one of them. Same with Jade Cocoon but this i got at one point for cheap. Some Other Games are Alundra, Tomba+2, Suikoden 2 or Legend of Dragoon. I wish i had picked those up when they where cheap :P A strange RPG i liked was Quest 64. I know most hate it. But it was one of the best RPGs on the N64^^

Koudelka is a really interesting one. I was a big fan of Shadow Hearts: from the new world so I went back and played Koudelka and Shadow hearts because of it. Sadly I've never got my hands of Covenant, and I've heard it's the best of the bunch.

Shadow Madness was a work of art and a testament to games with a good sense of humour and dark stories. The characters were good, the dialogue was funny and the story was well developed. I loved how Keerg was the equivalent to Jesus, but you eventually met him and he was in fact simple man who didn't really do anything. I loved the woman screaming at her vegetables and the sign in the middle of nowhere that said "Do Not Remove." Harv-5 scaring the kids early on and always talking about death was one of my favorite parts. Anyone skipping that game is missing out. You were right about the world being well developed, too. Hybrid Heaven was superb and an underrated amazing game for the N64. Saiyuki may not have been the deepest RPG but it was a lot of fun and had a good story. The initial 6 characters were great, too. :) Koudelka is one of the best games I've ever played and I loved every bit of it. Nice to see it here. :)

Guardian's Crusade (and also Breath of Fire III) defined RPGs for me. Even today I find myself comparing every game to one of those two. Guardian's Crusade is also one of the reasons I picked up the Melodica as an instrument. I cannot stress enough how formative this game was for me.

Mario Golf GBC has some of the most challenging and addictive sports play I've ever had and I hate sports games. In fact, my brothers and I loved it so much that my dad got pissed we were fighting over it that in the middle of a road trip he detoured to a Toys R Us to buy a 2nd copy so that we'd have another available. The fact that you could easily emulate it on your phone nowadays makes it absolutely amazing still.

Check out Kartia: The Word of Fate. It came out in 99, was published by Atlus, and is a tactical rpg where all of your items, spells, and monster summons come from combining elemental cards that you collect in battle. I literally can't say enough about it. It's still one of the most unique strategy rpgs I've ever played. 10. I rented that multiple times, a crazy game that. Kinda miss it. 9. Oh, now THAT is a classic. I love it, I own the 2nd one and it is a great little game. 8. Ha! I wish more people talked about this game, this game needs to be used for inspiration as it has good idea in terms of lore, world building, and it being a Western made JRPG. 7. I........Have never heard of this one. 6. I know little about this other than a review, it has so very creative ideas that I wish some people took some ideas from. 5. I know about this, clever and creative, I don't have much else to say though. 4. Ha! That one, creative and weird, quite intriguing it is. Another game that could and should be used as an example for other games. 3. I actually own this one, it's a fun game with lot's of creativity, again another game that should be used for Inspiration. Back when Koei actually tried. 2. Ah Koudelka, the first Shadow Hearts game. And something of an interest to me, Horror RPGs, a rare combination even to this day and I want more of them due to how great the potential for them is. 1. A classic that we need more of already, I wish they'd make Valkyrie Profile 3: Hrist already. At least we are getting a PS4 and Switch remaster of Star Ocean 1.

Shadow Madness is one of my favorite games of all times, I understand the critic on the battle system and difficulty but the games world, lore, characters, and level of detail are so enthralling and charming that it gives some of the bigger games a run for its money. Don't be fooled this is definitely not flawless but a gem nonetheless.

Just goes to show that I'm one serious niche game player. Guardian Crusade was fun but (given my play style) very easy as I only lost one boss battle only because I wasn't equipped with the right item to counter the ailment that a certain boss dished out. Thousand arms was still my favorite of the bunch although I wasn't a big fan on the battle system.

dude I can't stop bringing this up to people they just don't understand how the early PlayStation games were back in the late 90s! it was a magical time! Like the Golden era of RPGs. One of a kind it's like they had personality back then they video games almost had a soul of their own. You can't find anything like that anymore. It was an actual adventure in story back then it took you away from just stats it took you into a pot and I miss that about video games. I miss that being the focus in my life while I played a specified game. It was like it had all of my attention until it was beaten. That's the stuff that is the difference in anime in my opinion. Yes they can make you think and even have you coordinated or learn lessons in life but they don't make you dream anymore
