I kinda just want a star wars series that focuses on a different person every episode just living their life. A stormtrooper on the death star, a bartender working on some planet, a policeofficer in the lower levels of Corusant. We could see their job, their homes, their relationship with family and friends. I think a lot of interesting stories can be told from different perspectives.

I think thats what from a certain point of view is trying to do - I'm not quite done with the first one, but there has been stories of characters just dealing with the bureaucracy of the empire, one of the woman who owns the tatooine cantina, a couple about stormtroopers , two about the customs of tuscan raiders, and my favorite of these, which was about one jawas everyday life, looting droids and ships specifically to watch their memories. (my favorite over all is obi wans) I think its really neat! Given they're not all by the same writers they have... varying degrees of quality, but if this is something you're interested in i recommend it!

Something like this has pretty much been my dream Star Wars content for a very long time. I liked Star Wars from a very young age but part of why it became my favourite fantasy universe was Star Wars Galaxies. The level of freedom in that game to be a crafter, musician, pilot, soldier, doctor, or whatever you could really think of (within realistic bounds) really captured my imagination and showed me what a fantastic storytelling potential the galaxy far, far away has. It's good to know others are really focused on this aspect, that means a higher chance of it actually happening some day.
@ic3olate3 жыл бұрын
@@frejo1931 From A Certain Point of View is definitely one of my favourite new-canon books, and I would love to see more content like it, but I don't think that's exactly what they are describing. FCPOV still tends to revolve around major pivotal events from the movies. I would personally like to see some more personal stories (preferably set in the GCW era or perhaps very early post-Empire but I'll take anything lol) that are almost totally disconnected from established characters.

#8 Proves *the Galactic Empire was incompetent.* What self respecting _totalitarian regime_ allows subjugated people to carry more firepower than their own soldiers?… A Jedi Temple guard (Baze) in a city under martial law carried a Minigun, and how could a blind man be allowed to carry a bowcaster? Talk about liability issues. And a standard freighter could take out a standard imperial fighter - tramp cargo ships on Earth don't carry phalanx air defense systems. At least the Empire outlawed civilian ownership of lightsabers after a notorious kindergarten massacre, and they even set up special squads to hunt down lightsaber users - to honour those Younglings killed at the Temple slaughter. Although the Empire thankfully ignored conspiracy theories about it being a false flag operation. In fact the official head of the Lightsaber control group… Lord Vader… would become very irate whenever the subject was even mentioned. [Showing the contempt such insane ramblings deserve from nutcases that also claim chemicals are making the Gungans gay - unlike Earth Government's that allow such rhetoric to go unchallenged].

We actually have had an early form of the "corporate citizenship" you referred to in recent Earth history. In the late 19th century rural towns built around a mine or factory might have 100% of the residents on the company payroll. Your home might be rented from the company and every retail establishment might be operated by the company. Some went so far as to extend credit based on your paycheck in such places so you didn't have to carry cash. The song "Sixteen Tons" (written in 1947 but most famous as a cover released in 1955) includes the line "I owe my soul to the company store." By the mid 20th century such towns had mostly disappeared but there are still places where the largest employer in a particular place holds considerable sway over local government. Where I live now (population 150,000) 1 in 5 adults are employed by a local university that operates 2 hospitals and is building a 3rd. In a region famously solid to one side of the political spectrum local politics is hard the other direction because the university is.

I suspect that was one of the reasons for the Empire's system of regional Moffs and planetary governors. Coruscant didn't really care about Joh Bloh's taxes specifically, so it's not like he would have Imperial Revenue Service agents from the core sectors knocking on his door any time soon - but the central office could run numbers on the taxes the planet was paying easily enough, and if it was lower than expected, they'd send the governor a nasty-gram requiring him or her to clean house, find the tax evaders, and brass up. The tax cheat would get a visit, but from planetary or system-level officials, not by hotshots from Coruscant itself.

As for #10, you obviously didn't study colonial history. Many colonial governments, from Spain, to France, to Britain, had a rabbit up their butts over how much money a given colony makes for the mother country. Companies like the East India company had representation in the British parliament and even access to soldiers and warships. And even in Britain herself, the workers were worked worse than slaves, paid meager wages that can't even feed them while being expected to work from 9 to 9. It was ten times worse than anything the Trade Federation can do to you. At least they have robots for that kind of back-breaking shenanigans.

I'm actually kind of surprised by how much I don't really agree with this one. While I agree with some of them it seems like others were just thrown in there. I'm sure taxation would be a bit more complicated for those that are directly dealing with it in the government, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily harder for the average citizen. It's not like at tax time I have to send separate checks to every entity I pay taxes to. I pay taxes to my state and federal governments. Last time I had to pay city taxes it was just rolled into my other forms. I'd like to think that when operating at a galactic level that you'd pay taxes to your local government and they pay taxes to the galactic government. That's how I'd run things, considering that the galactic government trying to look over the tax returns of trillions of individual citizens would be impossible. Although they already have an advantage by the fact that everything is computerized and there are no paper forms to fill out. You make it sound like every citizen is at the mercy of the galactic government and rely fully on them for any protection. Last I checked there were still local security forces. Some planets had actual armies. Seems like the equivalent of someone stealing my wallet then me crying because the UN didn't swoop in and help me out. While the galaxy is a dangerous place and many people did bring protection that isn't true for everyone. Firstly, not EVERY citizen explored the galaxy. A lot of people probably just spent most of their time on one planet and maybe only took a trip here or there to other planets. If your local area is relatively safe then you have no reason to be strapped all of the time. While I agree that different species will have different dietary needs, I'd like to think it's a bit more well known what is out there. Plus, maybe by this time they've figured out ways to try to find a common ground with a lot of common species running around and make foods that can satisfy a large number of them. If you're going to sell food in a marketplace frequented by many different types of beings you may steer away from selling food that's poisonous to a lot of other species. If your species has a lot of issues with the majority of alien food out there then you'll obviously have to take precautions and not just pull a Jar Jar and eat random stuff from a vendor's rack. Plus, I was under the impression a lot of food is served in markets around the galaxy so people might be familiar with it on numerous different planets. Such as the meiloorun fruit. Unless this is only inside the time of the Republic (didn't catch if you said this or not) then I wasn't under the impression that everyone knew what the Jedi were and witnessed their powers firsthand. I thought it was much more rare than you seem to let on. I'm sure a lot of citizens are used to the abilities of alien species they frequently run into, so it would be no surprise to them. I will say that it would be possible for them to find something they've never seen before if someone with some stranger powers do come by, but to some point you'd probably have to half expect this. You know the galaxy is a big place and you've probably heard about a lot of the different species running around. Seeing it firsthand might be a treat but I also wouldn't expect typical people would be seeing magic all of the time. You make planet destruction sound like a common thing in the galaxy. How many large events were there? Jedha, which was written off as a mining incident, Scariff, which the galaxy didn't even really know about, Alderaan which was a huge deal, but then nothing until Starkiller Base. I don't think those couple of incidents that people knew about is enough for people to become numb to the idea and just think that's how it is in the galaxy.

If we go into further detail on StarWars food, there could be many counter measures. There exists a solid state fuel converter that turns nearly any matter into fuel. So maybe there's also something like a food replicator or converter or even salt pack like things to make food problems less of a problem. Also, Because Humans make up a majority of the Star Wars population it's plausible that the Aliens are worse off then us and have fewer occomidations made for them, with obvious native exceptions.

1:59 - 2:26 INCREDIBLE segment that I'm gonna take with me forever. I always _loved_ conspiracy theories when I was a teen, I always was *certain* that the goverments of the United States and of Russia and of the European Union all had these super complex and super elaborate ways of controlling people's lives and watching their every single move. I basically fantasized the CIA, the Mi6 and the Spetsnaz as being these fantasy-like agencies that controlled everything. When in reality, _yeah. Those agencies are actually 100x more limited than action movies and conspiracy theorists claim._ And the reality is, we used to embrace those conspiracies to convince ourselves that the goverment was behind everything. Every occurence, every bad event, it all NEEDED to have this "mysterious and super secret reason" for why it happened and that only the goverment and no one else could understand. *Because the thought of these events happening at random, completely outside of their control or under the control of criminal mafias and such was actually more terrifying. It left us feeling the world is a lot more "wild" and dangerous for it. And we didn't like that.* Even if at the time none of us noticed that, because we were too engrossed in these conspiracies to just open our eyes to the simpler truths. Being factical and logical and actually doing our own research on what was happening _was largely something that we just didn't do._ :/

9:58 Well there was the whole company town mess... For all intents and purposes those were corporate government bodies and very oppressive ones at that. It might have even very nearly kicked off another revolution / civil war here in the US and arguably kind of did, look at the Coal Wars and the Battle of Blair Mountain in West Virginia 1921 in particular. In the case of Blair Mountain it escalated to the point of the company having a privately owned plane dropping bombs on an advancing army of 6,000-8,000 heavily armed union men. It's hardly if ever talked about in schools, which I just have no idea why that possibly could be /s, but it's something that basically already happened and having an autocratic corporate structure govern a place very predicably wound up basically having the same effect as a dictatorship.

Corporate Citizenship actually pretty much happened in parts of the US in the early 1900s especially with coal miners, who had to live in company housing (subject to random search by company security since it's their property), were only paid in company credits to be used at the company store (which would have super marked up prices) and anyone caught with real money in their possession would be fired without question and become homeless and jobless with no transportation in the middle of the deep woods of Appalachia, possibly the better part of a hundred miles from anything of note- for modern day equivalent, imagine somewhere random in North Dakota, but without highways. And if you try to protest or unionize, they would hire private security to maim or kill you and your fellow demonstrators and even local law enforcement if they took your side (see Matewan) And that was just on a small scale xD in star wars, amazon blockades Hawaii and "Hope(s) you're aware the blockade is totally legal"
