Benfica lost the league when after losing against Porto conceding a goal at the 92nd minute then lost to Chelsea in the Europa League final by conceding a goal again at the 92nd minute. In the last game of the season Benfica lost again in the Portuguese Cup final vs Guimarães, a team that's way inferior (with all due respect). I guess it was probably one of the worse seasons ever for a portuguese team. PS: In the next year, they lost again in the Europa League final vs Sevilla after penalties.

It would've worked if they were in finals, but this was early. But I see your point. But I also think they won so much because of how shit Barcelona played. PSG deserved to win but if Barcelona tried it would've maybe been 2-0. And PSG looked like they gave up immiediatly when they held up in their own box from the first minute. Still an epic bottle though. Arsenal is proud.

On match day 32 Schalke were the Bundesliga leader but then they lost to relegation battling VfB Stuttgart so they gave their lead away. Then they won their game against SpVgg Unterhaching (currently playing in the 4th division) 5-3 and as their game was done, Bayern were 1-0 down away at Hamburg. Due to a mistake of HSV-goalkeeper Matthias Schober, a former Schalke-goalkeeper, who has taken a pass from a HSV-defender with the hand, Bayern got an indirect free-kick, scored by Patrik Anderson in the extra time. This goal got Bayern the title and now Schalke are called the champions of the hearts because of what happened in 2001!

Schalke were only able to win the title if bayern lost though, thats not throwing away. Leverkusen 1999/2000 however... throwing away a 3 point lead on the last day against relegation fighters unterhaching making munich the winners..... Also: the goal in 2001 was not a mistake by the goalkeeper, it was a false call by the referee. everyone involved is unable to see the backpass in that, but world class referee DR. Markus Merk did.

As a liverpool fan the 2013/14 season was worse than 89 because in 14 it would have been the first time we won the league in 24 years and gerrards moment to get his first prem title but in 89 we won the league again shortly after and we'd already won 6 titles like you said in that decade aswell as other great success

One glaring match was left out. Fulham v Juve 2010 5-4 agg in the Europa League to get to the quarters. Juve won the first game 3-1. Then Fulham came back to win 4-1 with a Dempsey chip in the late stage of the game. A Triumphant and Glorious win for Fulham. It'll be a long time before Fulham can get back to those European heights.

Hungary 1954, what a team!! If they'd beaten Germany in the final when they lost 3-2 they would have dominated european football for possibly decades. And the number one Liverpool didnt throw away the league that year, the trauma and shock of the hillsborough disaster and playing so many games in such a short space of time meant the players were knackered. I think they played seven games in twentysix days in May 1989, culminating in the greatest finish in league history. Justice for the 96.

1997-98 Man Utd looking set to win title. Played Arsenal at OT who were 2nd. Utd had a pretty sizeable points advantage before the game I believe. Arsenal won 1-0 Thanks to a Marc Overmars goal and overturned the points deficit and won the title, Wengers 1st one

But Burnley did win just once in their last 10 league games, pissing it, and so gifting Ipswich the title. Burnley also lost the FA Cup Final to Spurs so Burnley won the 'Wrong Double' that year:( The cause was probably tiredness under the players and the manager not rotating enough, because for example Burnley played 12 matches in the last month of the season.
