Salvador Cabanas had become a legend in Mexico soccer. Playing of Club America, he was capable to carrying the team when they needed him the most. I heard about the incident just hours after it happened. Last I had heard was he was back practicing football but you could tell, he would never be completely the same again. AFter that, I never heard what happened to him nor where he went to go live. There was another great player that died called Christian Benitez. aka "chucho". Top player of Ecuador and one of the best players in the Mexico League, along with Salvador Cabanas.

How about John White- the Ghost of White Hart Lane. Jinking Scotsman of the Spurs Double winning side of 1961. Still playing a few years later- played a round of golf, sheltered under a tree during a storm and got struck by lightning. Tragic

Piermario Morosini, by far one of the saddest stories of all time. losing both parents and a brother to suicide at a young age, before passing away on the pitch in 2012, leaving behind a disabled sister with no family to look after her. So so sad.

Jeff Astle the West Brom legend? One of the finest forwards in England throughout his career, and died as a result of being too good at heading the ball. Not even biased, he truly was a magnificent player and his death was so tragic. His passing 15 years ago was, and still is the driving force behind the FA being pressured into doing something about head injuries in football.. Massive shame you didn't mention him.

No mention of Miklós Fehér of Benfica?? He died at age 24 in 2004 of cardiac arrhythmia due to an enlarged left ventricle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - the heart condition you mention that takes far too many young people due to it not being screened for easily)
