Enjoy. 39 here. Started with The Rona in 2020. I love it. My biggest challenge besides committing to tricks and steps has been finding the perfect skate spot as Hanz mentioned. I am an introvert and don't mind people being around but too many seems to drain me. I am going to have to get creative and think like a long boarder. 🙃🛹🤙

For me it was important that there are a lot of people (most of them older than 70 years). So I feel better when my godchild will be there without me. The friendly old people will have an eye on her ;)

I personally didn't bother at first with protective gear, until one day I fell and hurt my elbow quite a bit. And I thought okay, no harm done, just get back on the board. But I found I was now scared to try the trick again, and because of that I kept failing it. So I bought wrist and elbow protection, and I'm still not able to do a no-comply, while that was my go to trick before I fell. If I had worn them from the beginning I wouldn't have hurt myself in the fall and wouldn't have this problem. So yeah kids wear your gear

I started 2 weeks ago at 47. I LOVE it. Just cruising and carving. I wear all the gear and it gives me a huge confidence boost. I pass kids all the time. Granted I have a rather kickass board. I've been snowboarding for 30 years and wish I had started longboarding 30 years ago. It is very similar. Although slide stopping has been impossible for me. I think I need less grippy wheels.

Honestly, as a beginner, wearing full protective gear is smart. I find that, as a beginner, it gives me the confidence to push myself to do things that are just beyond what I've already done. Without the gear, I don't think I would do that because I would be trying to play it safer. It's a confidence thing for me, too.

I use my old board that has pressure cracks and no pop as my "rain board" if I need to commute in the rain. It's gonna give out on me someday, but hopefully not before my current board loses its pop, so that I can continue the cycle.

I guess I didn’t realize enough how lucky I was when I had this big bro (my big siz’ ex-bf) who taught me longboarding before. He already taught me most of these tips when I just started riding . One of the most important thing he taught me was to always have a small handy bag to put your waterbottle and snackbars in.
