there is one combat puzzle in GOWR. its in vanaheim where there are respawning gulon and you need to get them into the cage without killing them while throwing the axe at the gear to push it up. It's how you summon one of the dragons(not the one that flies) in vanaheim i had to look it up to figure it out lol

None of this is complete without this: Atreus needs to know *exactly* what Kratos did. Not that he killed his father Zeus, or that he killed nameless Innocents, but that he killed his actual family. He murdered his wife and child and carries their ashes on his skin. Atreus needs to know just why he was considered such a monster in his homeland and why he was feared the way he was and it can't just be implied, he has to know. They copped out of it the first game and I'm disappointed in them for not making that clearer in the second.

I love the fact that the newer games are more story focussed, however I think they played it way too safe with Ragnarok. The whole process felt too easy and like nothing was ever really at stake. When Atreus was going to Asgard, Odin should have been much more manipulative with Atreus. Shown him some of what Kratos did in his past to try and make Atreus believe his father is a bad person and Odin is actually the good guy etc. This could have turned Atreus against Kratos for a period of the game. Also, in the Ragnarok battle, we should have lost a lot more of our allies i.e. more of the Valkyries that wouldn't later be used, Hildisvini, the Dwarves should have come in numbers and the death toll should have been a lot higher to make it feel like an actual war. The only characters who should have survived should have been characters who were used for the DLC. Ragnarok itself should have been longer and there should have been moments where we felt like we were going to lose to Asgard, but Kratos digs deep to prevail. The last boss fights should have been way more epic too. Mechanically they are fine, but how can the first Thor fight be way more dramatic than the second? We should have been throwing each other around Asgard in the cutscenes. The world serpent should have somehow been involved. The splintering of the world tree should have been represented somehow, maybe by the roots starting to rip a hole in the sky etc. Ragnarok should have felt darker, but also a lot more intense. Kratos and Atreus having a little heart to heart about 'being better' in the middle of the supposed end of the world felt a little out of place. I honestly think if SMS had nailed the Ragnarok part of the game better then some of the other story sections i.e. Ironwood could have been forgiven. Just my take.

I rarely use the “skip cinematic” in GOW: Ragnarok, but I make an exception in ironwood. I liked it, but it was way too long. I don’t understand why we couldn’t skip straight to the Gryla boss fight instead we had to forage two times before doing so. The only part I liked in ironwood, was racing angrboda in the end.

The whole ironwood section could have been better had they not spaced it out so much. For example, they could have introduced Gryla earlier and not fed Atreus any context as to who she was. Then, once he meets Angrboda, she hesitates to tell him. Atreus then sees the profecy and has his brief meltdown. They could now mix the fetch quest with another animal being abducted but they're in no position to help. Once Atreus receives the giant marbles the last wolf get abducted. And we move straight into heading towards that boss fight. And it ends how it ends. I'm pretty sure we cut down 30 minutes to an hour of this area without the fluff.

I just want it to feel more grand than the Norse games - the grounded aesthetic is cool but I need something else from the next installment. The Egyptian pantheon could be me more in tune with the cosmology of the GOW universe as we see Thoth is in the comics. I would like to see that reflected in the architecture and gods' designs.

I had no problem with the Norse aesthetics personally (though it helps that I'm a MASSIVE fan of Norse Myhtology) but I can see your point. Personnally, I would love it if instead of Egypt, they decided to go for the Mayan, Aztec or Inca pantheon. Of the Celtics (GOW Morrigan is a horrifying idea). Or even better, the Mesopotamian Gods.

There's a character action/hack-and-slash game from 2022 by name of Soulstice that did seemingly take an example from the Greek GOW games on the front of the camera during non-combat sections. There's great spectacle in the game *and* substance, worth checking out despite its rough spots. (gameplay-wise it's more along the lines of DMC and Bayonetta, while the tone is more like Darksiders). It's a world all its own with its own mythology and history, though.

God of war should take notes from Ghost of tsushima when it comes to customizations. It's completely unnecessary to have 3 body part armors. Instead, a single outfit that changes stats and everything else should be cosmetic. Exactly as in Ghost of tsushima.

Ya, but in an expensive RPG, each piece is unique and offers stackable or independent stats and perks. A "suit" would just take away from who/what kratos is. It's better the way it is, it IS a story based game, not a customizable character with not much story to the game. We need more games with character depth, we are more interested in the story than what our character looks like. It's the old saying, don't judge a book by its cover, because the story is so much better than being able to give him a goatee, or a suit of armor which doesn't fit the character or character development of the story, that customization is pretty pointless considering the story was trying really well to stay period specific in the story.

No way lol, one of my larger gripes with that game is that there wasn't *more* granularity with the customization. I wanna be able to color customise all the shit like the plating, undergarments and threading color to tailor make my own armor sets and kabuto. being able to have the masako half moon crest on the gosaku kabuto with the mane would have been sick. The swords mostly kinda sucked too and I only used a few, should be able to choose my own saya, menuki, blade steel (damascus is shown in goy), handle fittings and wrap colors. All they had to do was make the dyes work for each individual bit of the armor and they were already half way there by having the dyes to begin with. They had all the parts already, they just needed more granularity.

I want more fights like kratos fighting poseiden or things like that. More wild and crazy rather than just ground fighting. The mission replay is the one thing I want the most. As well as having a boss select option. I hate you have to replay the whole game and make a manual save just to fight a boss again. The boss fights in these games are really fun and it's just a general pain to attempt to replay them. Also being able to redo berserker/valkyrie fights would be great too. Maybe after defeating one you can return to the area and re-do the fight, without getting resources from it of course.

I think they'll probably do another shift of sorts for the next games, so the Norse games become kind of their own distinct part of the franchise. Man i loved the ironwood section in my first play through, it was a nice relaxing time after all the hectic combat and story. But having said that it was unnecessarily BORING being forced to play it again in subsequent playthroughs. Like I really dont wanna be doing it again, it was nice to see it the first time lol.

I remembered RDR2 from reading this. There's main missions that drive the story forward and mostly filled with some action (as much as this type of game can provide action), but if you want to sink in and learn more about the characters, you can do side missions with them or hang around in camp, listening their dialogues... wait, GoW also does that. I think the main reason why Ironwood turned out the way it did is finishing the saga with one game. With more screen time given they could've achieved what they were going for with Ironwood less messy. As the director explained, they needed some time for Atreus and Angrboda, so their relationships didn't felt rushed and artificial, and i agree with him, so the problem really is that they just didn't had enough place for this. Cory clearly was setting up things for a trilogy with 2018, but then decided to end it with two games instead, i think that's the main mistake, because most of the other mistakes come from this one. I understand that mid production somewhere he realised that the story he wants to tell is taking too much time to make, but still i think if you started a saga with a pacing like this, you should keep it, finish it good, and already then start the next one with a faster pacing. But whatever, ranting about it now doesn't make things better. I hope the sacrifice of the overall Norse saga's quality is gonna worth it, and that they won't do the same mistake again.

I disagree with the no cut camera, i feel they can build upon it, but i want it to stay, it just worked for the immersion of the story. I also dont like helmets and beard types. Kratos' look is supposed to be bespoke. Him changing his armor makes sense tho, and transmog should definitely be there from day 1. Still great to hear you go through the exercise of what you'd to see different! They need to give us more unique trinkets and gifts after we kill mini/main bosses. It was always fun to get a mini reward from those kills that talismans just didn't get right. Ill be honest though papo, replaying Valhalla, Tyr's character is so interesting. I highly recommend you go on a deep dive of Valhalla and Tyr, piecing together his whole story and teachings to Kratos in Valhalla has me thinking how he may be involved in the future. Is Tyr going to still be our bridge to the other pantheons? Remember those pre-Ragnarok theories with him bringing the gift to the greeks? Was that technically painted by the Giants? Was that potentially a prophecy (as we learned from Angrboda in Ragnarok that they paint things that havent happened yet/the mural Kratos saw at the end). Maybe Tyr hasn't gone to Greece yet, is that a Cory "way, way later" teaser? My minds racing about it! Tyr's character in Valhalla's was so intriguing, and it was awesome to see his true nature. Food for thought papo!

yeah i initially agreed but the more i think about it, the more i realize i would miss it if they got rid of it. even in the original god of war’s the cutscenes followed kratos 95% of the time, so what would be the point in cutting? and if they have an interesting story they want to tell where kratos isn’t supposed to be there, they can do clever cuts like in ragnarok.

The problem with the no cut is it limits the amount of big scaled boss fights that they could do, just look at the scene from asuras wrath where he stops the massive finger.. gow could make kratos do something crazy like that, but with the no cut camera it’s impossible, and it’s not like getting rid of the no cut would affect the close story. Just look at games like rdr2 and tlou, both have camera cuts and close and personal story’s, gow could have both, I think a good example of what gow would look like with camera cuts, is the cgi trailers for Ragnarok and 2018

The fact the Giants painted things that hadn't happened yet gives us the credibility to think we may have seen murals that haven't happened yet. Tyr didn't have to use the Unity Stone for all of his travels, not like that's a fact set in stone. The Unity Stone was just the McGuffin of the first game, no need to think it was "stone or bust" for Tyrs ability to travel.

Great video Captain I agree with a lot of things you said here especially that Ironwood should not be re-created in a different way ever again. Yes the character development was nice and those moments that you mentioned were important as well too. I definitely agree with that but the pacing of that Section is just awful. I think if Santa Monica takes a bit from each game especially the best out of each game and they mould it together similar to what they did in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla then I reckon their next game could be just as big as 2018 or if not even bigger, if they are able to take the storytelling from God of War 2018 the combat from God of War Ragnarok/Valhalla and bits and pieces from the Greek games such as jumping and the blade of Olympus and stuff like that it would be an incredible game but then again that’s just my humble opinion. I still enjoyed the norse games a lot and always get excited with new God of war content.

About customization. When I first played GoW Ragnarok and watched QTE where Kratos looses his cape, I had a feeling that there would be added a cape menu in armor menu later in NG+. It didn't happened, cape was only for one armor, but imagine how many different cool designs for capes they could make. I would sell my sould for Spartan red cloak.

One RPG element I'd like to see implemented if possible would be diverging paths and cause & effect. Cause and effect similar to Mass Effect, whereas you make small choices along the story to which the results of those choices would be relieved later on.This could also be coupled with the diverging path idea by giving the player a choice which path to an objective to take. On previous game series that I liked which did this well in early titles were the Start Ocean games; which allowed to not only choose your path in certain points in the story, but those also tie into who you can recruit into your team. Ex: choose Path 1 and you're rewarded with Team member A, but that means you can't get Team member B, nor can you back track and take Path 2 for more loot. Since we don't know what the next GoW game will be like in terms of partners and other story characters, this could be an interesting element to include. Good points. Always feels bad that there aren’t even enough manual save slots to make a save for EVERY boss fight. Lots of cool ways they could include a Boss Rush mode. They could even just place repeatable realm tears in the arenas/locations of the boss fights. You’d get a pop up in the post game/after the credits notifying you that Kratos can re-visit past battles or something. Maybe even make them super boss rematches on the higher diffs.

One thing that I think could be expanded upon is playing as different characters. We played as Atreus in ragnarok, but it was limited cuz his parts were only story sections and not part of the semi open world sections. Maybe in the next game they could not only expand on Atreus, but also play as other characters with their own movesets like Freya with Valkyrie powers or Týr with all of his Valhalla weapons

You hear about him in Valhalla and Kratos feels guilty for what he does but I was hoping they would show him. I'm hoping the next game uses the mask/rift as a plot point and that it somehow relates to how there are multiple pantheons and connects them somehow so that would be a way to do it.

I hope they will be pulling the camera back more at least for the cutscenes or no-fight areas. Remember those moments from the old games when Kratos crossed bridges, and camera zoomed out a lot, showing his tiny figure being just a small part of this enormous and beautiful landscape? THIS is my top feature for the camera, i hope they bring it back at least for some moments (i mean, original GoW also did this only for a few moments, and that's exactly why they're so memorable).

There's a big problem with camera like this and current GoW gameplay - manual aiming. You can't actually do over-the-shoulder aim for weapon throws with a different camera without breaking the flow of combat. You can actually even test it yourself: try playing DMC5 with a "Tomboy" breaker only and try to use it's charged shot as much as you would throw your axe in GoW. Of course how much you throw it depends on your play style, but i do it a lot and now actually interested to try this and see how it goes lol, but from what i experienced with Tomboy already... it's not very convenient to use.

The camera in Dmc would be perfect but the problem with Dmc is the level design coridor linear design doesn’t work anymore with Hack and Slash it needs to be god of war level design like More arena’s and big areas to fight

@@RMX-ART DMC went from RE style, experimented with semi-open/large, sky high areas in DMC2, mixed the two with large, interconnected areas in DMC4 and DMC5 went with level-based missions. I would say, DMC4's level design were best, until the Dante sections and could've been improved with DMC3 levels of area complexity.

On the traversal aspect, I think Ragnarok did 2 new things in this retrospect. The Blades were now more of a grapple which was super fun to use to run around, explore AND they added a few new things to the combat such as grappling up to attack and jumping off and slamming the ground. While I do agree that in the next game there should be more traversal options to be added and maybe even being able to do the same sort of thing using different means, I do love that Ragnarok really did try to add at least a few new ways to get around the world with the Blade Grapple and the Spear Launch

Definitely need more long walk and talk sections instead of to the point cutscenes. When I'm in the mood for working on my combat skills I like nothing more than an unskippable walk and talk session to slow the pacing right down.

I agree with all of them except for one. I don’t like the idea of Kratos changing his beard. Also if they keep the options for armor, it should be like GOW3. Full armor sets that you find as you go along in the story. And no options to change wrist or waist armor. Either you wear the full set or not. No mixing matching. Also the Camera angle in my opinion should be like Marvels Spider-Man. The camera is far from Spider-Man when you fight but you still have control over the camera. And when it is fixed, it’s for areas like in Sifu when you enter 2D sections. That happened in GOW3 when you fight Zeus.

Wouldn't mind jumping to come back. Armours would be great if you could choose colours or they have more varieties of the same armour. That's what I loved about the Champions of Norrath games. I'd like some classic weapons from the OG games to return and maybe some magical items that repairs damaged surroundings so you can either cross bridges, collapsed tunnels, tapestries and so on. More variety of weapons would be good too. I know many didn't like Ascension but was cool you could use your enemies weapons for a time.

I would love more traversal items. The open nature of the newer games lends itself to that. I would prefer if Blade of Olympus just remains a Rage just to keep it set aside as something special to revere it. And I did think it was weird in that section of Valhalla that they didn't make it more like the original. My guess is that they figured it would take away from the narrations happening to be juggling keeping the cage going uphill with any dialogue you want to absorb. And a boss rush does feel like it would be fitting -- could totally fit in Muspelheim or even that Raven tree in Niflheim.

if santa monica continues with the 3rd person camera in combat, they should make it more like how bloodborne did its action. it was still fast paced and engaging while letting the player to see multiple enemies on screen. however, i do hope the old hack and slash system returns in the next god of war game. also, i would love to see costumes being added once you finished the game like they did in the older games. love your vids btw^^

Yeah, I hate not being able to jump. Hated it since GOW4. It’s so limiting. I personally don’t think the B.O.O. overshadows anything. Sure, you can play with it for a significant amount of time but its attacks are minimal compared to what the main 3 can do.

Boss rush is on top of my wish list for this game, i even go as far as creating a "boss rush mode" myself by manually go to new game + and start creating different saves files before each major bosses so i can redo them again.

There are two things that I would like to see from Santa Monica Studio in the future: One: Bring back the multiplayer mode from Asension. I may be in the minority, but I genuinely enjoyed it. Maybe make it a standalone free to play with the option buy cosmetics while avoiding pay to win. Two: Co-op. I'd love to have the option to either swap characters mid combat or have the companion controlled by a second player. This would require either the camera to be pulled back or split screen, but I really want the ability to co-op in a hack n slash. This would also require the companions to be better fleshed out with their own weapons and combos.

This might just be me, but I love games that have multiple endings and I think it could be done in god of war. Like imagine having the option for Atreus to help Odin. Things like that really boost the replayability for me and makes it feel like I’m creating the story that suits my gameplay, not just the story that was created for me(not saying the story is bad I love the god of war story)

I also think that they should bring air combat back, even though you were mainly doing the same moves in the air as the ground in the Greece saga, it felt like a completely new form of combat and bouncing enemies off the ground repeatedly until death was so satisfying.

The whole ironwood section was unnecessarily long the section was good in the sense of telling the story of atreus but they dragged it on for way too long also they forced angrboda down our throats they gave her way too much screen time she will obviously be a big part in the possible atreus game but she was such an annoying character freyr should have had more screen time brok should have had more screen time thor should have had more screen time but they decided to use all that time on a bullshit mission where we collect fruits on a slowass cow

My BIGGEST complaint, is what they are doing to Kratos’s character. I think 2018 Kratos was PERFECT. He was intimidating. Ragnarok, it’s almost like he’s a completely different person. and hesvalways whispering… In Ragnarok he didn’t seem to pose as much as a threat. Not to mention the model design. I loved the 2018 model, the Ragnarok model he was much smaller and his shoulders were weird. If they can bring the look and feel of 2018 kratos back, i will be so happy.

Since in Egypt Kratos won't have the Leviathan Axe & Draupnir Spear (while leaving Greece he magically lost greek weapons, so keeping norse stuff would contradict the lore) he should get egyptian weapons (maybe for example: 2 khopeshes to dual wield them + two-handed "fan axe" working like Blade of Olympus in Valhalla) to keep things fresh with something new. Also they should totally add jumping

You are so wrong on the lore when Greece got destroyed its magic also got destroyed with it because the magic is bound to the land but for the axe and the spear Norse land didn't get destroyed only asgard so his weapons are fine to travel to new lands and if want proof look at Tyr in gowr Valhalla he uses weapons and magic from different lands without any problem and for me instead of replacing his weapons it's better to add new weapons and keep his current weapons and update their move set to the new formula

They will never add a helmet to kratos , his facial animations are important. Maybe they can pull it off for Atreus spin off game that makes more sense since Loki has the iconic horned helm in all the Norse mythos. The climbing is the hidden loading screens , Same with the tight gaps you squeeze through or the rocks you loft to get through. They need that stuff lol how do you not know that.

Me personally don’t like to go back to areas once I have done all the main story/side missions unless I get a strong purpose to go there. It feels such a huge disconnect that I couldn’t reach to a certain area to open a chest. Once you finish a certain area, you don’t go backwards only forward! I like to explore 100% of the area each time. Sure, if it is difficult I would love to come back to that for a fight. But, to get a chest is always a disconnect. That’s why I do not level up my armour that frequently because I do not feel the game is that difficult even in god of war difficulty. I like to get into more fights than roaming around looking for chests which I cannot reach even after finding them.

I'm definitely in favour for a lot of this. I do sometimes feel the camera is a little too close and would prefer it to be pulled out, at least for combat sections, the current system is very close and I didn't realise the quick turn buttons in ragnarok, which made some encounters a bit cumbersome. The single cut thing is something I feel only works sometimes, and is more work than its worth. People praise it for its artistry, but it comes at the cost of long periods of tedium because we can't just cut. This was felt worst with Ironwood, which actually made me put the game down for a long while. We really didn't need an hour long yak ride

It's pretty sad, because yesterday it was revealed that Santa Monica opened a new IP. This probably marks a pause of the God of War series, and Santa Monica may be opening a new title, with it likely not being an Atreus game.

Ability to jump = Entire level design redone from the ground up. Which I think will be very probably with the next entry, as it will be ps5 only, where the level design of 2018 and Ragnarok are neutered by the ps4's 5400rpm mechanical hard drive.

My biggest problem with GoW 2018 and Ragnarok is that you couldn't refight the bosses. The PC ports of these games sort of solve this issue with save file editing but man that's a big let down having to go into NG+ to experiment with different builds and manually create save points. Its a feature that's been done many times before but Ghost of Tsushima really embarrassed a lot of other Triple A developers with their feature implementation. I guess Insomniac can be given credit for adding it to Spider Man 2 almost a year after release. Also, the extreme nerf of Agile strike from 2018 to Ragnarok is absolutely criminal. That was the one thing that made Hand Combat so satisfying!

For Gow 6, Santa Monica should make character swap parts where after finishing a solid part of the story with kratos in Egypt or wherever the game goes, we swap to Atreus in Norse doing his mission so we can get the best of both mythologies and also see Atreus story after the ending of GowR.

Personally i wish they remove the RPG system. I don't think they added anything. Doesn't mean the armor sets should be removed but instead of buying them i want to find them. We could dress Kratos up cosmetically and if you find a whole set you get a new power related to that armor set (you can still use the power regardless of armor) Honestly rpg in a action game like this ruins the phase and make the combat seem deeper than it really is. I hate having to wear armor peaces in order to make the numbers go up instead of letting me go nuts with whatever i wanna wear. The other thing is that i wish more cinematic games did is to embrace that it's still a video game. Go nuts. Add some platformering and pull the camera back a bit so we can do these platforms. (So yeah. Add a jump button.) Note these are my opinions

Not necessarily about a next game but to the 2018 and Ragnarok, I really wish there was a "continuity" mode, where you start to play 2018, finish it and move to Ragnarok as a "game+" with stats and gear (new things being added up later, like the spear). Making the game harder, obviously.
