Before the internet we got by just fine. In fact we had better connection with others before the internet, we actually made phone calls to talk and write letters or sent cards. We read actual books and the newspapers, we took time to inform and educate ourselves instead of reading bold by-lined titles and summarizing erroneously the outcome of a situation or person. So I get what Beeban is saying here. The Internet has changed all of our lives and has been a great help but It has also been a great hindrance.

We live in an era generations of the past will never fully understand. Youth are now born into technology; it's not something they adapt to or learn. It's a part of their identity more so than it is a part of ours.

It's "blanky syndrome" only worse! they don't grow up looking silly walking around with a small blanket/stuffed animal and phase out damaging and habitual behaviors in favor of social acceptance, BUT it's an accepted social norm in this case. manifested in these smartphones, Parents who have "forced" a child out of a "blanky syndrome" relationship understand just how emotionally hard it can be for the child. now imagine that relationship manifested into teen years, just how damaging it can be.
