An informative video. I almost want to jump on a plane and stay in Thailand. I did visit once and loved the trip. I did like the food. The weather, even in December, was very hot and very, very humid. Communication was a problem. I am retired military and i was about 55 at the time. You seem to have learned to speak some of the language. Respect for the elders was great. Great video thanks for sharing.

Howdy fellow falang. I'm no expert, but I can tell you the Only good steak I've ever found, in the land of smiles, is at a Sizzler. We used to have them, here in Jersey, but haven't seen them anymore. They have a small, decent salad bar too. Believe me, if you are craving a big chunk of juicy beef, and a tater, it will satisfy your craving. ($10-12) I met my wife of 13 yrs there. When I get back, asap, it will probably be for an extended time. I will look you up, if you don't mind. Good video. You nailed it, I especially about respect to elders and you don't have to be 80. Before social media, if someone called you names, you could smack them in the head and they would stop, lol. Sadly it has gone out the window, real fast here. Thai's love their country too, I think you mentioned it. Also lost in the USA. It's sad that I've seen some younger Thai's think it's cool to be like Americans and high five in leu of the Wai. Fast food is popping up there too, contributing to obesity.(( Take care, hopefully we'll talk over some beers soon. Paul

Regarding HC in your video i thought i give you an update on the independent insurance mkt for Harris County Houston TX 2018. This is the insurance market if your are self employed or employed but the employer does not sponsor a HC plan. I am going to try to simply and not make it out like I am an insurance agent. Cost r specific to avg nonsmoking no dependent 50-51 yo. I'll just list the best value (from cursory view). High deductible plan: $400 per mo + $6400 annual deductible (cover 60-65% of cost after deductible). Higher premium plan: $570/mo $675 deductible (covers higher % than previous after deductible). It only goes up from here to $880 per mo zero deductible (covering even higher % of cost than the two previous plans after deductible). I don't know about anyone else but these r the no insurance insurance plans. Don't assume you will get access to a particular doctor either. ALSO, the payments are in AFTER TAX dollars where as the employer sponsored plans are subsidized by the employer and the govt in pre tax dollars. I have a friend 51 yo in Biloxi MS his cheapest premium quote was $780/mo + $6500 deductible (again this is not specific to him but to a 51yo). Time to head to Thailand. I wonder if anyone has any good advice transporting a senior cat to Thailand from the states.

I can't pay European prices for accommodation any more. I've just booked my summer in Thailand - £374 return from the UK with short stopovers! - because I've been spoiled. Nice studio flats for £100 a month can't be beaten.
@pattayanewbie50757 жыл бұрын
where did you get these prices buddy!
@craigross3417 жыл бұрын
Skyscanner. I put in Glasgow, but checked the box for "nearby airports", which always chucks out really competitive Edinburgh departures. It might be worth using an incognito window after clearing all cookies and history. I got £403-50 in 2016 with Qatar, and summer 2018 is Turkish Airlines with a short stopover in Istanbul. I didn't think I'd ever beat £403. As for the accommodation that's everywhere if you shlep about, look cheap and speak a little bit of Thai. The Santipran Place in Udon, and the Pikul in Nong Khai, have both given me (pretty much) monthly rates for a six week stay. Mind you, I'm cheap. Pretty much all over Thailand outside of the expensive places it's 350 baht or thereabouts a night, so if you want to travel around thirty days at 350 would only be 10,500 rather than (say) 5,500. Five thousand baht isn't much to spend to be mobile. I don't do it because I can't be bothered, have to join a gym or I fall apart and take the view that if you've seen one Wat you've seen them all.

I am with you on the noise, crowds and all that can get a little overwhelming, the air pollution can get to be a real health issue. Most times I travel to SE Asia - resp infection... Neighbors, and dealing with Thai locals... you got that right - you do NOT WANT to create a confrontation, and best to be humble, or bite down hard on your tongue. I hear many stories when fools in bars and girls flirting with the Foreigner - even a skilled big tough US Marine...> get tossed into a dumpster, or plain shot. Really really good sharing about how this experience has made you grow Chuck, better diet, food, and just self caring - this is exactly what my goal encompasses. And man, I gotta agree with the situation here in USA - people have degraded to selfish detached zombies ! Kids are half rotten here... well besides mine - 555 Well plus I just met an apparently wonderful Thai lady online, so plans have begun ;-) Thanks for sharing with us , Scott and son
